Chapter 79 Need to Be More Careful in Dealing with Amelia
Amelia's bedroom door was slightly ajar. Frederick looked at it for a few seconds before turning toward it.
When he arrived at the door, he stopped. Inside the room, he could hear Susan and Amelia talking.
"Ms. Davis, your ankle seems to have swollen again. What's going on with Mr. Hastings? He used to treat you so badly, but now it seems like he has feelings for you. I really don't understand what he wants."
Amelia replied softly, "He doesn't have any feelings for me. Maybe it's just guilt and pity. After all, I haven't done anything wrong in this marriage. Or perhaps it's because of his grandmother's pressure that he had to come here to visit me."
Her voice was soft, tinged with fatigue.
"And Ms. Roberts is divorcing him as soon as he returns to the country, which shows that he has no feelings for me. Instead of wasting time, I'd rather let him go and fulfill myself."
Hearing Amelia's words, Susan felt sad. She said softly, "That's true. Mr. Vanderbilt is so much better than him. If you had married Mr. Vanderbilt in the beginning, he definitely wouldn't have let you suffer like this."
Susan's massage technique was gentle, relieving the pain in Amelia's ankle. Amelia closed her eyes and was about to fall asleep. Susan's words entered her ears faintly, and she instinctively nodded before drifting off to sleep.
From his perspective, Frederick could see her slender legs. Her foot was being held by Susan's hand, as if she was applying medicine. Her other leg hung off the side of the bed, swaying back and forth, appearing relaxed.
He couldn't help but think of the time she slept on the couch at Spring Villa.
His heart suddenly pounded. Then he heard her response to Susan, which made him feel frustrated.
Susan put down the ice pack and was startled to see Frederick standing at the door of Amelia's room.
She thought to herself, 'Thank goodness I didn't say anything bad about him in front of Amelia earlier, otherwise he definitely would have heard it.'
Susan breathed a sigh of relief and averted her gaze.
Amelia was now asleep with one leg hanging off the bed, and Susan wanted to lift Amelia's it onto the bed. Just as she was about to do so, Frederick walked in.
With a gentle embrace, he adjusted Amelia's position.
Seeing this, Susan didn't know what to say for a moment.
She looked up and saw Vincent waving at her from outside the door, so Susan quietly left Amelia's room.
Amelia wasn't sleeping well, perhaps because the pain in her ankle made her uncomfortable, so she kept frowning.
Frederick sighed and sat on the edge of the bed. He reached under the blanket and took hold of her injured ankle, gently massaging it as Susan had done.
A man's strength was always greater than a woman's.
Even though he tried his best to control his strength, it was still heavier than Susan's.
Amelia made a soft sound, and Frederick's movements paused.
"Susan, go downstairs and rest. I will be fine," she whispered with her eyes closed, then turned over.
Frederick sat by the bed, watching her, unable to hide the tenderness in his eyes.
After a long time, Frederick finally left the bedroom.
Vincent had already taken his medication and was sitting on the couch.
Frederick went downstairs and took the initiative to greet him. "Vincent, I'm going back now. I apologize for disturbing your rest."
Vincent sighed and said, "Why bother with all this?"
Frederick lowered his head and didn't reply.
Seeing this, Vincent didn't say much either. He got up from the couch and escorted Frederick out of the Davis Manor.
Frederick sat in the car, started the engine, and couldn't help but glance at the balcony of Amelia's bedroom.
He didn't know what he was doing.
Perhaps it was because in all their three years of marriage, Amelia had never left him. Now that they were no longer bound by marriage, she left so freely, while he hadn't completely freed himself from their relationship.
He took a deep breath, rubbed his forehead, started the car, and left the Davis Manor.
That night, Amelia slept soundly.
The next morning, she woke up early, and her complexion had improved a lot.
She lay in bed, looking at her phone, and saw the increasing popularity of the topic of Frederick and Rachel's secret marriage. She couldn't help but feel confused.
Frederick had been rumored to secretly marry a wealthy woman before, but it had never caused such a sensation as this time.
Yesterday, photos of Rachel and Daniel going to the airport together were also secretly taken and circulated online.
In the photos, Daniel was very considerate towards Rachel, but in the eyes of the public, his concern seemed somewhat ambiguous.
"I heard that after the eldest daughter of the Davis family married Mr. Hastings, they no longer cared about each other's private lives."
"The eldest daughter of the Davis family seems cold, but she is quite open behind the scenes."
"I heard that she used to date Sebastian, Mr. Hastings' good friend."
After this comment appeared, there were immediately people wanting the poster to continue exposing information.
Rumors about Rachel's infidelity after marriage became more and more outrageous.
Amelia frowned as she looked at the negative news about Rachel online. She took out her phone, found Amber's number, and made a call. Amber answered the phone quickly.
"Ms. Davis, I didn't expect you to call me."
Her voice was cheerful, and she seemed to be in a good mood.
Amelia frowned, her voice deepening as she said, "Ms. Roberts, I advise you to clarify the online situation as soon as possible, otherwise you will face consequences."
Amber paused for a few seconds and denied it. "That has nothing to do with me. Ms. Davis, I am busy working, please do not disturb me."
After Amber finished speaking, she hung up the phone immediately.
Amber thought about Amelia's attitude towards her when she went to ask about Rachel's situation before, and she responded to her in the same way. Amber couldn't help but feel happy.
She felt that she had a chance for revenge against Amelia.
She smiled triumphantly. As she put away her phone, a message popped up.
[Amber, thank you for telling me such a big secret. My editor even praised me today. Next week, I'll treat you to a meal.]
Amber smiled when she saw this message, but she didn't reply and directly clicked the delete button.
She thought to herself, 'What does any of the gossip have to do with me? I just casually mentioned that the person who secretly married Frederick seemed to be Rachel, and they took the initiative to investigate. The Davis family will handle it, regardless.'
The online abuse targeted Rachel, and Frederick was not affected in any way.
Amelia made a statement that Frederick and Rachel were in the process of getting a divorce, which would benefit the Hastings family, and that they would definitely not get involved.
Amber stood in front of the water dispenser, took a cup of water, and took a sip.
In her mind, she thought, 'Rachel has already handled this matter, but it's a pity that Amelia couldn't be involved. The current situation doesn't allow me to deal with Amelia. Once I deal with Amelia, Frederick will also be affected, and he will definitely look into it.'
Amber tightly held the paper cup. Although she wished to drag Amelia down with her, she couldn't act impulsively at the moment. She knew that she had to be more cautious when dealing with Amelia.
