Chapter 393 He Trusted Her Judgment

The atmosphere in the air was slightly tense. Rachel was blushing slightly and her heart fluttered with a mix of emotions. She was keenly aware of Charles's intense gaze as she tried hard to mask her own turmoil.

Charles lowered his gaze, observing Rachel's attempt to appear calm, and a faint smile tugged at his lips. "Ms. Davis, it's getting late. Let's head out," he said smoothly. He couldn't afford to give her too much time to think.

Seeing Charles change the subject, Rachel secretly breathed a sigh of relief and nodded. "Okay."

Fortunately, Charles didn't intend to delve deeper into this topic. After all, her behavior last night was indeed quite provocative.

She stepped out of her apartment, and Charles followed her unhurriedly. They both entered the elevator together.

Charles took the initiative to ask some questions about the places they were going to visit today. Rachel responded politely, shifting easily into professional mode.

The awkward little episode between them just now seemed to have never happened. Charles didn't bring up the night before, and Rachel wasn't about to either.

Meanwhile, Amelia had returned to the Davis Manor. As soon as she parked the car in the garage, she saw Frederick sitting on a lounge chair in the yard.

Anna was running around the yard with a mini kite in her hand.

Frederick saw Amelia driving into the Davis Manor, immediately put down the water cup in his hand, and walked toward the garage.

As soon as Amelia had parked the car, Frederick walked over and opened the driver's door for her. "Is Rachel okay?" he inquired.

Amelia shook her head lightly, "She's fine. It was Mr. Wright's hand, he had a bit of a tendon strain."

As she spoke, she took her bag from the passenger seat. Frederick naturally reached out to take it, asking, "Mr. Wright?"

Amelia nodded. Seeing Anna running toward them, she immediately bent down to pick her up.

Frederick stood behind Amelia and Anna, his expression pensive. Amelia, noticing his absence from their side, turned back to glance at him. "What's wrong?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.

"Nothing," he replied calmly, though his mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Charles and Rachel. Their interaction earlier seemed noticeably more intimate, suggesting that something significant must have transpired between them last night, making Rachel lower her guard.

No matter what the situation was, it was very unfavorable for Sebastian. Moreover, Sebastian's irrational behavior today made Charles completely outshine him.

Sebastian and Frederick had been as close as brothers since childhood.

Although Frederick had some unsavory opinions about Sebastian recently, he still didn't want to see his old friend completely unravel.

Amelia looked away from Frederick and entered the yard with Anna in her arms.

Anna waved enthusiastically to him. "Uncle Frederick, help me." She had been running around the yard for a while, but the kite still hadn't flown up.

"I'll be right there," Frederick responded to Anna.

Amelia sat on a chair in the yard, her gaze falling on Frederick as he helped Anna fly the kite, a slight smile on her lips.

With someone accompanying her, Anna's smile was much brighter than before.

Frederick only ran a lap before getting the kite up. He squatted beside Anna, handed her the kite string, and smiled kindly.

Amelia remembered that during their three years of marriage, she rarely saw Frederick smile. She never imagined he'd one day grin like this, crow's feet forming at the corners of his eyes.

"Aren't you supposed to be showing those Yaradia representatives around Kasfee today?" she asked, curious.

Frederick, who was teaching Anna how to pull the kite string, responded, "Nope."

Besides, he had deliberately pretended to be drunk so that he could come back and spend more time with Anna and Amelia. Even if he had been explicitly asked to go, he would have found an excuse to decline the invitation.

"I can't leave my favorite little girl all alone," he stated firmly, pulling Anna into his arms.

His handsome face was close to Anna's cute little face, his eyes full of fatherly love.

"Does my favorite little girl also want me and mommy to spend more time with her?" he asked her tenderly.

Anna nodded seriously.

Frederick smiled softly and couldn't help but kiss her cheek.

Anna, focused on the soaring kite, didn't seem to mind. "Uncle Frederick, look, it's so high!" she exclaimed.

He responded with a playful challenge. "As long as you call me Daddy, I can help you fly the kite even higher."

Anna looked at Frederick obediently, an excited glimmer in her eyes, and called out, "Daddy."

Hearing Anna call him "Daddy" melted Frederick's heart, and he hugged her tighter. "My good daughter," he murmured, aiming to kiss her again, but Anna, resolutely focused on the kite, covered his mouth with her tiny hand.

"Fly the kite higher," she demanded, her attention unwavering.

Amelia watched as Frederick's joy was immediately extinguished by Anna. Amelia couldn't help but smile slightly.

Frederick could only resign himself to flying the kite higher for Anna.

Watching their loving interaction, Amelia's heart softened.

Just then, a security officer approached Amelia discreetly. "Ms. Davis, Mr. Vanderbilt and Mrs. Vanderbilt are here."

After the previous yacht incident, the security personnel at the Davis family had opinions about Daniel. Whenever Daniel came to visit the Davis Manor these days, they would notify her.

Amelia heard this and frowned slightly. "Let them in," she instructed. The security officer nodded and departed.

Frederick glanced at Amelia, his eyes showing slight displeasure, but he quickly suppressed his annoyance. Daniel still came to find Amelia.

Amelia noticed Frederick's change in mood, lightly pursed her red lips, and thought that Frederick had been performing well recently. She didn't want other people to affect the harmony of their little family of three.

She asked him, gently, "Does this bother you?"

Frederick replied sullenly, "Not at all."

Amelia smiled at his jealous expression. "He poses no threat to you," she assured him. Her thoughts had never wavered toward Daniel.

Frederick's gaze fell on Amelia, and he stared at her for a long time. Sighing, he said, "I'll take Anna upstairs so you two can talk."

He trusted her judgment.
