Chapter 480 Maintaining a Proper Distance

Amelia whispered, "Got it."

With that, Tina nodded and stepped into the elevator.

Once Tina was gone, Amelia headed back to her office. Just as she was about to settle in, a colleague from the treatment team popped in. "Dr. Davis, the team meeting's about to start."

Amelia nodded and smiled. "Alright, I'll be there in a second."

Her colleague grinned back, clearly in a good mood. Today, Maria's latest test results were in, and everything looked stable. While some numbers weren't perfect yet, they were significantly improved from when she was first admitted.

The hospital in Tideport City already had a plan for announcing the news. Ulysses and Kimberly had been handling calls from reporters eager for updates on Maria's recovery. Without the new test data, they could only express their confidence in stabilizing her health. Now that the results were in, the vibe in the conference room was much lighter.

Amelia glanced over Maria's test report, a smile spreading across her face. Sandra, overwhelmed with gratitude, thanked each member of the treatment team warmly.

Maria had received many donations from kind-hearted folks. After leaving the conference room, Sandra immediately shared the good news with the donors. Some media outlets caught wind and rushed to the hospital for interviews.

When Anderson came looking for Amelia, she was in her office going through patient cases. She had other patients to care for and had taken some time off recently, so other doctors had stepped in. Now that she was back, she needed to catch up on their current conditions.

"Dr. Davis," Anderson's assistant called from the door, smiling. "Dr. Clark wants to see you in his office."

Amelia put down the test report she was holding and asked, "Did Dr. Clark say what it's about?"

The assistant replied, "Seems like some media are here for an interview. Dr. Harris and Dr. Brown didn't want to do it, so they asked me to find you."

Amelia quickly tried to dodge the opportunity. She suggested, "How about you ask Dr. Reed and Dr. Jimenez? I've got a lot to finish up here."

The assistant looked a bit troubled but kept smiling, "Actually, everyone is participating in the interview, but the media will ask about the treatment plans and final decisions, so you'll need to answer more questions."

Amelia was set to be a major shareholder of General Hospital in the future. She had also helped with Maria's transfer to Kasfee for treatment and the medical equipment issues, so it made sense for her to be interviewed.

The assistant said, "Dr. Davis, please don't refuse. They are waiting for you."

With the assistant's urging, Amelia set aside her work and followed them to Anderson's office.

Next to Anderson's office was a conference room that could fit about ten people. When Amelia walked in, Anderson introduced her to the media there for the interview.

Since this treatment team was a joint effort between Kasfee and Tideport City, Kasfee sent Amelia as their representative for the interview, while Tideport City sent Ulysses' student, Kirk Jimenez.

Amelia wasn't too thrilled about being in front of the reporters' cameras, but once she started talking about her work, she relaxed and handled their questions like a pro. The reporters, even though they didn't get all the medical jargon, were totally drawn in by her confidence.

After the interview, Amelia finally let out a sigh of relief. She had a quick chat with the reporters and then headed back to her office, only to get a call from Jessica.

"If I had known the media would be here today, I wouldn't have booked my flight for today," Jessica complained.

Amelia chuckled. "You would have handled the cameras like a champ. You've done so much work, and I ended up taking the spotlight."

Jessica laughed softly. "Don't say that. You came up with the main treatment plan; I just made a few adjustments. So, you deserve the credit."

Amelia teased, "Since when did you become so modest?"

Jessica grumbled, "I've always been this humble and polite, okay?"

Amelia laughed.

Jessica had to catch her flight, so they exchanged a few more casual words before ending the call. Just as Amelia was about to dive back into her work, a colleague showed up at her door. "Dr. Davis, it's lunchtime. Are you still busy? Let's hit the cafeteria."

Amelia glanced at the time and realized it was already noon. She nodded with a smile. "Alright, let's go." She put down the test report and headed to the cafeteria with her colleagues.

Two of them were doctors from Tideport City. Since Maria's condition was stable and she would be discharged soon, they were getting ready to head back to Tideport City. They had been in Kasfee for quite a while and had a lot to deal with back home.

When they first met, there were some tensions and conflicts. Now, as they were about to part ways, they felt a bit reluctant. They chatted about their initial conflicts and couldn't help but laugh.

Jesse brought Nicole to the cafeteria. Once he got Nicole settled at a table, he headed off to grab some food.

However, she saw Amelia smiling and chatting with her colleagues.

She thought about how Amelia hadn't replied to her messages recently. She assumed Amelia was stressed about Frederick's situation and in a bad mood.

Seeing her now happily chatting with colleagues, Nicole felt a bit annoyed. She took a deep breath and looked away from Amelia.

After finishing her conversation with her colleagues, Amelia looked up and saw Nicole sitting across from them.

Nicole was looking elsewhere. Seeing this, Amelia was about to wave and call her over. Just then, Jesse walked over to Nicole with a tray.

Seeing Jesse, Amelia stayed quiet. She still had a strong dislike for him, but since Nicole and Jesse were about to get married, she didn't want to cause any drama. So, she kept her distance whenever Jesse was around.
