Chapter 73 She Couldn't Compare to Amelia at All
After returning to the Davis Manor, Amelia rested in the living room for a while after dinner. She felt tired, so Susan helped her upstairs to get to the bedroom.
Amelia laid on the bed. Susan looked at her swollen ankle, feeling heartbroken for her.
Unfortunately, Amelia was pregnant and unable to take medication to alleviate her pain. She could only apply ice to temporarily relieve the discomfort, which was very difficult for her.
"Ms. Davis, there have been too many accidents lately. It might be best for you to stay at home. Tomorrow, I will go to a fortune teller to seek some advice and hopefully remove the bad luck from the Davis family."
Indeed, the Davis family had been experiencing a string of unfortunate events. They almost went bankrupt, and now Amelia was going through a divorce. It seemed that even going out for a walk was fraught with danger, as she had hurt her foot in the process.
Susan didn't typically believe in fortune-telling, but this time, she couldn't help but seek advice to put her mind at ease.
Upon hearing Susan's words, Amelia smiled softly and said, "Alright. Have my dad accompany you. Maybe it will help him find some peace of mind as well."
Susan playfully glared at her and changed the subject.
As Susan continued talking, Amelia started feeling drowsy and eventually fell asleep.
Susan didn't receive any response from Amelia the whole time. When she looked up, she saw that Amelia had already dozed off.
Amelia had delicate features, made more charming by her sun-kissed skin. Her eyelashes were long and beautiful. She was gentle and elegant, with a pleasant personality. Susan couldn't understand how Frederick could bear to divorce such a wonderful woman.
With a sigh, Susan carefully placed Amelia's feet back under the covers. After tucking her in, she turned and walked out of Amelia's bedroom.
As she approached the bedroom door, she saw Frederick approaching.
Susan was taken aback, before she composed herself and said, "Mr. Hastings, Miss Davis has fallen asleep."
Frederick nodded slightly, expressionless, and replied, "I just want to take a look."
Susan wanted to say something else, but then noticed Vincent waving at her from a distance.
With another sigh, Susan had no choice but to let Frederick enter Amelia's room.
Amelia's room was tranquil and elegant, with a jacaranda tree blooming outside the window, its blue flowers enhancing the serene atmosphere.
Frederick stood at the doorway, silently watching the person lying on the bed. She seemed to be sleeping fitfully, , her beautiful brows furrowing tightly.
As he took a step forward, Amelia's eyelashes trembled.
Amelia's dream was filled with images of Amber confronting her. The fear she felt caused her to wake up with a start. Opening her eyes, she noticed someone gently closing the bedroom door.
She rubbed her forehead and said, "Susan, could you please bring me a glass of water?"
Frederick's hand lingered on the doorknob. He didn't answer.
Unaware of her most recent visitor, Amelia lay on the bed, gazing out at the jacaranda tree. She and Frederick had planted the tree when they first got married at the Davis Manor. They hadn't expected it to bloom so abundantly this year.
The meaning of the jacaranda flower is "waiting for love in despair."
Amelia couldn't recall the emotions she had when she bought the flower.
As she looked at the tree full of blossoms, she felt a sudden melancholy in her heart.
Frederick walked downstairs and told Susan that Amelia needed a drink of water. Susan immediately poured water for Amelia and brought it upstairs.
After a brief conversation with Vincent in the living room, Frederick left the Davis Manor.
Amelia heard a car engine outside her window and asked Susan, "Is my sister back?"
Susan hesitated for a moment before whispering, "No. That was Mr. Hastings leaving."
Amelia paused, holding the glass of water. "When did he get here?"
"He came while you were still asleep. He even came here to see you. I thought you saw him," Susan said attentively, taking the glass from Amelia as she no longer seemed to want it.
Amelia lay back on the bed, thinking about when she woke up earlier and saw someone closing the door. It was probably Frederick standing at the doorway.
"Mr. Hastings seems to care about you quite a bit, Ms. Davis. Maybe you misunderstood him?" Susan's voice was quiet, perhaps afraid of angering Amelia.
Upon hearing this, Amelia smiled faintly. "If he really cared about me, we wouldn't be getting a divorce."
She laid back on the bed and fell silent.
Susan chose to remain silent as well.
After all, for the past three years, Frederick hadn't really prioritized Amelia. He never even attended the Davis family's customary large gatherings.
Susan observed Amelia's silent figure and said, softly, "Ms. Davis, rest well and don't overthink it. Once your foot ankle heals a bit, we'll go to Fondaniss."
Amelia nodded. Due to her injured foot, the trip to Fondaniss had been postponed.
After Susan left her room, the room instantly became quiet.
Amelia had a restless night as she was troubled by Frederick's visit to the Davis Manor to see her.
The next morning, she looked pale from the lack of sleep.
She felt some discomfort in her abdomen. She got out of bed, enduring the pain in her ankle, and went to the bathroom.
She paused for a moment when she saw a trace of red on the toilet paper.
It was blood.
She turned pale at the sight. As a doctor, she naturally knew what bleeding meant.
It was a sign of miscarriage.
Amelia composed herself and slowly walked out of the bathroom. Then, she called Nicole and asked her to make an appointment for her at the hospital.
When Susan arrived at Amelia's room, she had just put down her phone.
Seeing that her complexion was somewhat pale, Susan hurriedly went up to her and asked, "Ms. Davis, are you feeling unwell?"
Amelia pursed her lips and said, "I have some signs of miscarriage. I need to go to the hospital."
Upon hearing this, Susan panicked. Amelia calmly told her to first arrange the car.
Susan rushed downstairs.
Despite her calm façade, Amelia felt uneasy. As a doctor, she had seen many patients with signs of miscarriage. Some were able to save their babies, while others lost theirs.
The Davis family's car was parked at the entrance of General Hospital. Nicole immediately took Amelia to the examination room. Amelia was still in the early stages of pregnancy, and the fetus was unstable. Yesterday, she experienced some mild trauma, which resulted in bleeding.
Nicole said, "I'll prescribe some medication for you to stabilize the fetus. Your trip to Fondaniss will have to wait until the end of the first trimester. After all, it's a long journey, and rest is crucial in your condition."
Amelia nodded and said, "Okay."
Nicole sighed, "You were planning to go abroad in a couple of days, weren’t you? You’ll have to delay that, considering your current condition."
Amelia felt helpless, but her health was the most important thing.
"It's okay. I'll just use the time to prepare myself better for the trip."
Seeing her positive attitude, Nicole smiled. To protect Amelia’s feelings, she didn't mention Amber, who had undergone treatment for her hand and also had a full-body checkup yesterday. Amber had been worried about some personal health issues that might affect her ability to conceive.
Nicole wasn’t fond of her. In her eyes, Amber was a calculating person who planned to use the child as leverage to marry Frederick. She was nothing compared to Amelia at all.
