Chapter 308 What Happened to That Child?
Three days later, Dylan finally made it back to the hospital.
Amelia was checking on Frederick's wound. She'd been changing his dressings daily, so it was healing nicely.
"Should be able to remove the stitches in a few days," she said after reapplying the gauze.
Just then, Dylan's cheerful voice came from the doorway. "Amelia."
He walked in with a gift for her and was surprised to see Frederick. "Frederick, you're here too."
Frederick frowned slightly but didn't look as hostile as usual. Dylan gave an awkward smile and noticed Frederick's bandaged hand. "How'd you hurt your hand, Frederick?"
Frederick stood up slowly, ignoring the question, and told Amelia what he wanted to eat today. She nodded, noting it down.
"I'll head back to the company now," Frederick said quietly. He glanced at Dylan but kept his distance.
Dylan looked puzzled by Frederick's disdain. After Frederick left, he quietly asked Amelia, "Why does Frederick seem to dislike me? Could it be that he..."
Frederick probably didn't know about Dylan's situation, as Harold and Cynthia had kept it hidden, and she hadn't mentioned it.
"You're overthinking it," she reassured him.
Dylan sighed in relief. "Even if he finds out, it doesn't matter. But it might affect you, especially with Anna..."
"Let's just go with the flow," Amelia replied softly.
Dylan nodded, pushing the gift toward her. "Yesterday, my mom told me about what happened at the hotel. I'm sorry, Amelia. We've been friends for so long, and I shouldn't have said those things. This is a gift to apologize."
Amelia looked at the gift box and said calmly, "No need to apologize. I understand how you felt. But you know the kind of family Line comes from. They won't tolerate you. Can Ken really ensure your safety?"
Dylan nodded. "He can. Ken's been with me in Kasfee these past few days. He'll eventually divorce Line. Their marriage is just a family alliance. Ken told me he'll divorce her and marry me. He just wants to gain some benefits from Line first."
Dylan couldn't hide his smile, imagining marrying Ken. Amelia pressed her lips together, unsure how to dissuade him.
After a while, Dylan looked at Amelia and softly asked, "Amelia, am I being an adulterer?"
Amelia paused, unsure how to respond.
After a few seconds, Dylan continued, "I'm not really ruining their marriage. She ruined my relationship with Ken. He's just using her."
Amelia took a deep breath, wanting to advise him, but before she could, Jessica knocked on the door.
"There's an impromptu meeting. Dr. Harris wants everyone in the conference room," Jessica said.
Amelia nodded. "Okay."
Dylan quickly added, "I need to get back to work too. I've been away for two days, and there's a lot to catch up on."
He hurried out of Amelia's office.
Watching him leave, Amelia frowned, wondering what kind of ideas Ken had put in Dylan's head to make him so hopeful.
She sighed, gathered her materials, and headed to the conference room.
Maria's condition had stabilized, but new issues had come up, so the treatment team needed to discuss it.
In the following days, Amelia continued bringing meals to Frederick daily before returning to the hospital.
One day, after delivering food to Frederick at the Hastings Group and returning to the hospital, she walked into the lobby and heard a commotion.
Apparently, Dylan had prescribed the wrong medication and dosage for Alice Lewis's child. Alice only realized the mistake after her child had been taking the medication for a while. Worried about the potential effects, she came to the hospital.
Alice first caused a scene at the pharmacy and, not finding Dylan in his office, started arguing with the nurse at the reception desk.
Dylan got a call from a colleague and rushed back from the cafeteria. As soon as he appeared, Alice's husband, Louis Walker, charged at him, punching and kicking.
Amelia quickly intervened and got kicked by Louis too. Fortunately, the hospital's security pulled Louis away.
Louis pointed at Dylan and cursed him out.
Ralap heard about the incident and immediately came over, inviting the couple to the conference room for a discussion and calling Dylan in as well.
Seeing Dylan's dejected look, Amelia felt worried.
As Dylan left, he softly said, "I'm fine," and followed Ralap to the conference room.
By the afternoon, news of Dylan's incident had spread throughout the hospital.
Nicole came to find Amelia after work and brought up Dylan's situation.
Nicole sighed, "I heard Dr. Kingsley has depression and previously had suicidal tendencies. The parents saw the scars on his wrists and wouldn't let it go. Ralap hired him, so he's also implicated. The higher-ups plan to demote Ralap and fire Dr. Kingsley."
Amelia frowned. "What about the child?"
Nicole replied softly, "The hospital did a check-up, and the child is fine. They paid a settlement, and the parents signed a confidentiality agreement. Are you close with Dr. Kingsley?"
Amelia nodded. "He helped me a lot when I was in Fondaniss. You go ahead. I'll give him a call."
Nicole nodded and left.
Amelia called Dylan, and he quickly answered.
She was about to comfort him when Dylan laughed and said, "Amelia, don't worry. I was planning to resign anyway. I'm going back to Fondaniss to be closer to Ken."
