Chapter 260 She Really Had a Hard Time Before

Amelia quietly looked at Frederick's handsome face. It was impossible for her not to feel anything.

But she wasn't that easy to appease.

Nor could she forget the bitterness and sorrow of their three-year marriage just because of a few words from Frederick.

She looked at Frederick standing in front of her with an extremely calm gaze, her tone devoid of any fluctuation.

She said indifferently, "Mr. Hastings, it's a bit late to understand this now, isn't it?"

Frederick stiffened his body and looked down at Amelia, only to see her beautiful eyes as calm as a lake without a trace of emotion.

His heart tightened, and even his breathing became less smooth.

Amelia, holding Anna, stepped onto the stairs and walked upward. As she passed Amber, her gaze remained straight ahead, not even glancing at Amber.

Amber bit her lip tightly, her face somewhat pale.

Wendy didn't look good either.

In her understanding, Amelia had always been the one clinging to Frederick.

Wendy had heard that when they got married, Amelia had used some means.

But now, seeing Frederick's attitude toward Amelia, Wendy realized that the rumors might not be true.

Moreover, Amelia had just rejected Frederick, which made Amber lose to Amelia.

Wendy had always been waiting for Amber to marry into the Hastings Manor and enter high society so that she, as her friend, could also benefit.

Anna lay on Amelia's shoulder. Seeing that Frederick hadn't followed, she raised her little hand and waved at him.

Anna urged, "Uncle Frederick, come to chase me and Mommy."

Frederick snapped back to reality at Anna's voice and looked ahead.

Anna was happily waving at him.

Frederick's heart stirred.

It wasn't like he hadn't been rejected by Amelia before. Frederick had heard harsher words. The refusal today was not a big deal.

"Coming," Frederick responded, stepping onto the stairs, almost in a jog.

Amber saw Frederick chasing after Amelia and Anna, biting her lip so hard that she tasted blood before she slightly loosened her grip.

Wendy mustered the courage to look at Frederick.

Wendy said, "Mr. Hastings, you can't treat Amber like this."

Seeing Wendy about to go over and stop Frederick, Amber immediately grabbed Wendy's hand and pulled her back.

At this moment, Amber didn't dare to seek attention in front of Frederick.

Frederick quickly walked past her without any hesitation, heading straight for Amelia and Anna.

Felix, carrying a handbag, also quickened his pace and walked past her, completely treating Amber as if she were invisible.

Wendy looked up at their backs, her expression dissatisfied.

She asked discontentedly, "Amber, why didn't you let me speak just now? I don't believe Mr. Hastings doesn't have feelings for you. After all, your relationship was so beautiful back then."

Amber bit her lip tightly.

Her relationship with Frederick had never been beautiful.

Those beautiful feelings she spoke of were just scenes she had imagined.

Amber said bitterly, "It's all in the past. Frederick wants to start a new life, and I can't keep holding onto the past. Let's go see Mr. Lakoff first."

Seeing Amber's restrained expression, Wendy couldn't help but sigh, cursing indignant. "Amelia is such a bitch."

Wendy added, "Back then, it was clearly Frederick who pursued you, and now Amelia acts all high and mighty. Amber, you mustn't fall for her tricks. I think she's deliberately rejecting Mr. Hastings in front of you to make you feel bad."

Amber remained silent.

Even if Amelia did it on purpose, she could do so, while Amber didn't even have the chance.

Feeling a wave of irritation, Amber stumbled down the stairs, eventually falling to her knees.

Her knees hadn't fully healed before, and now they were injured again, sending a sharp pain straight to her heart.

Wendy exclaimed and reached out to help Amber.

Amber was in so much pain that she couldn't speak, a thin layer of sweat forming on her forehead.

Wendy turned to Frederick for help. "Mr. Hastings, Amber is hurt badly. Can you..."

Frederick frowned and responded coldly, "I'm not a doctor. I can't heal injuries."

Hearing someone was hurt, Amelia instinctively paused and turned to look down. Seeing it was just a simple fall, she looked away and glanced at Frederick.

Amelia uttered, "Mr. Hastings, you don't expect me to treat your ex-girlfriend again, do you?"

When Amelia spoke, she emphasized the word "again."

Frederick was stung by her words. Thinking of the foolish things he had done three years ago, his heart tightened.

He replied quickly, "Amelia, I didn't mean that."

Amelia's gaze swept over him indifferently, retorting, "Who knows? After all, you've done it before."

Frederick remained silent, and so did Felix.

Felix finally understood why Sebastian said the two women of the Davis Manor were tough.

Amelia's words completely shut Frederick up, leaving him unable to respond.

No matter how Frederick answered, it seemed wrong.

After all, those things did happen.

The atmosphere was tense for a moment, and Felix's mind was racing, trying to think of a way to ease the situation.

Otherwise, Frederick might lose heart.

Just as he thought of a topic and was about to speak, Frederick's slightly hoarse voice spoke first. "I'm sorry. I didn't consider things thoroughly before."

Felix remained silent.

It seemed like the first time he heard Mr. Hastings apologize so earnestly.

Felix almost wanted to forgive Mr. Hastings on Amelia's behalf.

Amelia didn't respond, continuing to walk ahead.

Felix and Frederick couldn't see her expression.

It was only after a few seconds that Amelia's calm voice sounded. "Why should you apologize? When you found me back then and asked me to perform surgery on Ms. Roberts, it was a mutual benefit. I treated Ms. Roberts, and you helped the Davis Manor out of trouble. It was mutually beneficial, so there is no need to apologize."

Frederick changed his expression slightly, his chest feeling tight.

Felix didn't dare to breathe. He originally thought Mr. Hastings wasn't that bad. However, hearing Amelia recount the past so calmly now and thinking about her situation back then, he felt an indescribable discomfort.

Felix thought Mr. Hastings was really too bad. If he remembered correctly, Frederick and Amelia hadn't divorced back then. The Davis Manor was in trouble. Mr. Hastings not only didn't help it out but also used it as leverage to make Amelia perform surgery on Amber.

Such a behavior was really terrible. It was no wonder Amelia was so unyielding now.

After all, she had really suffered a lot before.

Felix felt like crying. The couple he had high hopes for seemed to be ending.
