Chapter 472 The Plan Was Foolproof
Tina glanced at Amelia in the rearview mirror and said softly, "Ms. Davis, don't stress too much. Just do what you did today, and you'll be fine."
Amelia nodded seriously. "Okay."
Tina dropped Amelia off at the entrance of Davis Manor. After watching her go inside, she drove back to the restaurant.
Inside, Anna had just finished her bath and was lounging on the sofa, sipping milk from a small bottle. When she saw Amelia come home, she jumped off the sofa and ran over. "Mommy, did you go see Daddy?" she asked eagerly.
Amelia reached out and gently ruffled Anna's hair, her voice soft. "No, sweetie, I had dinner with my colleagues."
Anna's face fell, and she said quietly, "My phone watch is broken, and I can't call Daddy."
Amelia knew that Frederick probably hadn't been keeping his phone close lately. To trap Nancy, he had to be extremely careful, making sure not to leave any loose ends. This meant less communication, even with his own daughter. She picked Anna up, speaking gently, "I'll get you a new one soon."
Anna nodded. She seemed to sense Frederick's distant attitude lately, so she didn't push further. She leaned against Amelia's chest and whispered, "If Daddy doesn't want to talk to me, I don't want to talk to him either."
Amelia sighed and softly comforted her. "Daddy's just really busy with work right now. Once he's done, he'll come back to see you."
Anna's little face was still puffed up with anger. Amelia looked a bit helpless as she carried Anna upstairs. As they reached the second floor, they encountered Casey, who was cleaning the hallway. When Casey saw them, she quickly greeted Amelia with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Ms. Davis, you're back?" Casey asked, subtly observing.
Amelia nodded. "Yes, thank you for your hard work."
"No trouble at all," Casey responded politely. Though the cleaning job was quite tough, she was secretly pleased to have it, as it gave her the perfect excuse to gather information upstairs.
She continued, "Ms. Davis, the study room upstairs is locked, so it's the only room I haven't cleaned today."
"My sister uses that study. I'll open it for you after Anna falls asleep," Amelia said as she walked past, holding the still-fuming Anna.
Casey quickly said, "Ms. Davis, you could open the study now, and I'll finish cleaning before Anna goes to sleep. I'll close it afterward."
Amelia's eyes turned slightly cold. "I'll come over and watch you clean in a bit."
Casey's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly nodded. "Of course, okay."
Amelia took Anna to her room and only came back once Anna was asleep. She unlocked the study door for Casey, who had a new mission today: planting a bug in the study. She'd already planted one downstairs but hadn't had the chance to finish the job up here.
Entering the study, Casey first scanned the room for cameras. Finding none, she relaxed a bit. She started cleaning while trying to make casual conversation with Amelia.
"Does Ms. Rachel Davis often work from home?" Casey asked, fishing for information.
Amelia replied calmly, "Not really."
Casey smiled awkwardly. "Ms. Amelia Davis, could you please tell me which items are important? I don't want to accidentally damage anything and get blamed by Ms. Rachel Davis."
Amelia casually picked up a book from the shelf and started flipping through it. She said, "Everything in this room is important. Please be careful."
Casey paused and said softly, "When I joined, Ms. Rachel Davis checked out my family background. We are honest and hardworking people. We would never do anything sneaky. I might have a loose tongue, but I mean no harm."
Amelia, having dealt with too many people like Casey recently, such as Rodolfo, Elijah, and Constance, wasn't easily convinced. She responded softly to reassure Casey, "I know you're an honest person. Do your job well, and the Davis family will treat you fairly."
She added, "This study is where my sister works and contains many of our business secrets. Whoever cleans here is always supervised. It's not about trust."
Casey felt a wave of relief and quickly smiled. "Oh, I thought you had something against me."
"You're overthinking it," Amelia said, her lips curling slightly. "I have no issues with you. It's just that I've been dealing with a lot lately, so I might appear irritable."
Casey sighed, "I understand. Everyone has their worries. Please don't take my clumsy words to heart."
Amelia smiled. "I didn't take it to heart. It's getting late. You should finish cleaning."
She took a seat and continued reading. Seizing this chance, Casey discreetly placed the bug in the lowest corner of the bookshelf. Amelia watched Casey's every move from the corner of her eye, her gaze growing colder.
After finishing the cleaning, Casey saw that Amelia was still reading and softly said, "Ms. Davis, I've finished cleaning. It's getting late; you should go back to your room and rest."
Amelia nodded but didn't seem to have any intention of closing her book. Instead, she said softly, "You should go downstairs and rest. I need to make a call."
Casey instinctively glanced at the bookshelf, where she had just placed the bug. She knew that even if the bug were discovered, it could be remotely wiped. She smiled, confident that the plan was foolproof.
