Chapter 78 Shouldn't Have Agreed to Divorce from the Beginning
Amelia smiled faintly and said softly, "I'm sure it'll be a beautiful wedding. I had also considered having the wedding there."
Her voice carried a hint of regret. After hearing this, Daniel spoke gently, "There will be another opportunity in the future."
Amelia nodded gently and replied, "Yes, if I have another wedding, I will definitely choose that place."
Despite her experience with Frederick in marriage, Amelia had not considered the idea of remarriage.
To keep her emotions calm, she smiled and responded to Daniel.
Just then, Frederick was walking to the door carrying a gift box and overheard Amelia's words.
He furrowed his brows and, guided by the servant, entered the living room.
"Ms. Davis, Mr. Hastings is here."
Amelia and Frederick's divorce had been rushed, and the servant nearly forgot to change how he addressed Frederick.
Due to Amelia's injury, Vincent was not as warm towards Frederick as before. When he saw him enter, he nodded and said, "Mr. Hastings, please have a seat."
Upon hearing Vincent's stiff invitation, Frederick felt a bit sad, but he maintained a calm demeanor. He sat down across from Amelia and Daniel.
"I didn't expect Mr. Vanderbilt to be here too," he said.
Daniel replied calmly. "I heard that Amelia got hurt, so I came to see her. I didn't expect you, Mr. Hastings, to come as well."
Frederick didn't engage in further conversation with Daniel. He looked at Amelia coldly.
She sat quietly next to Daniel, looking gentle and obedient.
Daniel was gentle and considerate, while Amelia was beautiful and graceful. They seemed like a perfect match. Feeling somewhat angry, Frederick handed the gift box to Susan beside him.
"This is a bag grandmother bought for you. She asked me to bring it," he said.
Susan placed the gift box next to Amelia.
Amelia calmly accepted the gift box and, upon opening it, saw the precious bag inside. She paused for a moment. Although Amelia didn't pursue designer brands, growing up in the Davis family had given her some understanding of luxury.
This bag was the latest limited edition from a luxury brand, with only seven available worldwide and a price tag of over six hundred thousand dollars. Amelia knew that Brittany intended to make up for her miscarriage through this gift. She felt that if she did not accept it, Brittany might feel uneasy.
She smiled slightly, put the bag back into the gift box, handed it to Susan, and said to Frederick, "I will call your grandmother later to thank her."
Frederick nodded and, after a few seconds, stood up from the couch, using the excuse of company matters to leave.
Amelia noticed the displeasure in Frederick's eyes. Although she was somewhat puzzled, she didn't pay too much attention and looked away.
Vincent politely saw Frederick off.
After Rachel finished work, she returned to the Davis Manor. After greeting everyone, she and Daniel went to the airport. They were going to Fondaniss together to attend Megan's wedding.
After the two left, the Davis Manor returned to a brief period of tranquility.
Vincent went to the kitchen to prepare a nutritious dinner for Amelia.
Amelia's appetite had clearly improved, and Vincent's mood improved along with it.
After dinner, Amelia called Brittany to express her gratitude.
They chatted for a while, and Amelia started to feel tired. Brittany no longer wanted to disturb her, so they hung up the phone.
Susan noticed that Amelia seemed a little tired and walked over to support her.
"Ms. Davis, let me help you upstairs to rest."
Amelia nodded. Just as she was about to put her hand on Susan's, footsteps could be heard at the door.
"Let me do it."
Frederick's voice was hoarse as he walked towards them.
Susan and Amelia were both stunned. Susan thought to herself, 'They're already divorced, but Frederick seems to be coming more frequently.'
"Why are you here, Mr. Hastings?" Susan asked.
Frederick had a deep expression in his eyes as he approached Amelia and bent down to pick her up in his arms. She seemed to have gained some weight and felt heavier.
Amelia was startled and struggled a bit.
"Mr. Hastings, I can walk by myself," she said.
Frederick furrowed his brow and said coldly, "Grandma said you got hurt because of me, so she asked me to come and take care of you. This is my way of apologizing to you. If you keep struggling, you might hurt yourself further, and I can't bear for that to happen."
Amelia calmed down and stopped struggling. Frederick carried her upstairs.
Susan followed behind them, watching Frederick walk slowly, deliberately delaying their progress. She felt a bit annoyed.
She thought to herself, 'He never cherished Ms. Davis like this before they got divorced. Now that they are divorced, he treats her even better than he did when they were married.'
Vincent was arranging a video conference for Rachel in his study.
Rachel was going to Fondaniss for a week and asked Vincent to handle things during that time.
After finishing the meeting, Vincent walked out of the study and saw Frederick carrying Amelia towards the bedroom. Susan carefully followed behind them.
Seeing this, Vincent asked, "Is it time for my medication?"
Upon hearing Vincent's voice, Susan immediately nodded and said, "Yes, Mr. Davis."
Vincent calmly replied, "Go and get it for me, please."
Susan nodded and went downstairs.
Frederick heard Vincent's voice and turned his head to look at the study.
"Vincent," he greeted proactively.
Vincent nodded and, looking at Amelia's uncomfortable posture in Frederick's arms, said in a low voice, "Amelia hasn't been feeling well lately. If you have any concerns, you can talk to me about it."
Frederick was briefly stunned and replied, "Okay."
Amelia slipped out of his arms and, after regaining her balance, limped towards her bedroom.
Frederick wanted to support her, but Amelia shut the door in his face with a loud bang.
Frederick's hand was almost caught in it.
Frederick stared at the closed bedroom door, furrowing his brow.
Vincent glanced at him and said calmly, "Let's talk in the study."
After saying that, he turned and entered the study. Frederick followed him inside.
In the bedroom, Amelia laid on the bed.
She had walked too hastily just now, her ankle was in so much pain that she was sweating profusely on her forehead.
Vincent looked at his ex-son-in-law sitting across from him, feeling conflicted. Before, Frederick was arrogant even in front of him, but now he was sitting in front of him with a humble attitude, which surprised him.
"Frederick, I admire you and Amelia used to like you a lot. I don't interfere with young people's affairs, but I don't want to see my daughter get hurt. You were married to Amelia for three years and I've never asked anything of you. Now I'm only asking for you to stay away from my daughter. I can't bear to see her get hurt again."
Frederick listened and froze. He was about to speak but Vincent waved his hand.
"You can go now, I need to take my medicine."
Seeing that Vincent was in a bad mood, Frederick sighed and stood up from his chair. He looked at Vincent and said softly, "Vincent, take care."
Vincent nodded slightly without answering. When Frederick left the study, he glanced in the direction of Amelia's bedroom, feeling a mix of emotions. He thought to himself, 'Maybe I shouldn't have agreed to the divorce from the beginning.'
