Chapter 206 She Had No Other Meaning to Frederick
Jesse had been working in nightlife for years, so he had a more complicated mind.
Amelia was very simple-minded, and Daniel was worried that Jesse would plot against her.
Vincent saw Frederick carrying Anna into the house. He got up from the sofa with a smile on his face and whispered, "Is Anna asleep?"
Frederick nodded slightly, his tone equally soft. "I'll take her upstairs."
Vincent nodded, then looked at Susan.
Susan immediately took Frederick upstairs to Amelia's room.
Anna had her own separate room, but she liked to stay with Amelia, and Amelia was reluctant to sleep apart from her.
Frederick nodded slightly and carried Anna upstairs.
As he went up, he saw a suitcase next to Daniel, and his mood suddenly brightened.
When Amelia entered the room and saw Daniel, she paused for a moment, then greeted him. "Hello, Daniel."
Amelia told Daniel that Ruth had sent her a provocative message, and she hadn't seen him since.
She glanced at the suitcase next to him and knew why he was here today.
Daniel nodded and asked, "Did you and Mr. Hastings take Anna out to play?"
Amelia nodded lightly without much explanation, took a step, and sat down on the sofa. There was a hint of fatigue in her expression.
It wasn’t easy to take a child out to play under normal circumstances, but after what happened today, Amelia only felt like she could finally let go of her lingering worries after returning home.
A hint of loss flashed in Daniel's eyes.
When Vincent saw that, he felt slightly heavy-hearted.
Daniel had always been clear about Amelia's feelings, but Amelia didn't have any feelings for Daniel at all. She simply regarded Daniel as a brother.
Daniel had not lived at the Davis Manor for some time.
He had come here today to pack up, and Vincent knew that there might have been some conflict between Daniel and Amelia.
Daniel and Amelia had grown up together, and the Vanderbilts and the Davises were family friends.
Vincent didn't want the relationship between the two families to become strained because of Daniel's feelings for Amelia.
"I heard that the Hastings Group has been working on other projects recently. How thoughtful of Mr. Hastings to spare time to accompany you and Anna," Vincent said, taking a sip of his coffee.
He said that to cut off Daniel's thoughts.
Daniel felt inexplicably flustered as he listened to Vincent's words.
He had always regarded Frederick as his rival in love.
He was well aware that if Frederick cared enough for Amelia, his chances would be greatly reduced.
After all, Anna was Frederick and Amelia's child of, and since Ruth was sending those messages to Amelia, he wouldn’t have a chance with her.
However, he was unwilling to let her go.
Why could Frederick have her? Why couldn’t he have her?
"Yes," Amelia responded gloomily.
Frederick had immediately rushed over as soon as he received the call from the amusement park manager, which proved that he really cared.
However, that actually made Amelia feel uncomfortable.
Amelia could call Frederick over with just one phone call, and Amber could send Frederick away with just one phone call.
In Frederick's heart, she was not particularly special.
Daniel looked at Amelia's absent-minded expression, feeling a pang in his heart. He didn't want to continue talking about Frederick, so he changed the subject.
Daniel said, "My house has been renovated, but I still have some furniture to buy. Amelia, are you free to come choose some furniture with me?"
Amelia hesitated and nodded. "Okay, but the style I like may be different from yours. And I don't know much about furniture either."
At this point, Vincent took over the conversation. "If you want to buy furniture, you can talk to me! I'm experienced. When we renovated the Davis Manor, I selected the furniture."
Vincent became enthusiastic about this topic.
When Daniel saw Amelia's lack of enthusiasm, he just smiled and chatted with Vincent about this topic.
After Frederick put Anna on the bed, he walked downstairs.
He reached the stairs and saw Amelia sitting on the sofa, completely immersed in the conversation.
Daniel's attention was on Amelia. When he heard footsteps coming from upstairs, he glanced sideways and saw Frederick standing at the top of the stairs, looking at Amelia.
Daniel's expression changed slightly, and he immediately turned his gaze back to Amelia.
Amelia did not look up at Frederick. Her gaze somewhat dazed, and she didn't seem to know what she was thinking.
To Frederick, it looked like Amelia's gaze was fixed on Daniel's luggage.
His eyes were slightly sullen, and he walked downstairs.
"Hello, Vincent." Frederick greeted Vincent.
Vincent nodded and immediately smiled at Frederick. "Frederick, will you stay for dinner at the Davis Manor tonight? I'll make something you like."
Frederick lowered his head to look at the time, a hesitant expression on his face. "There's a meeting I need to finish at the company. I have to go back."
Amelia looked up at him and asked, "Did you interrupt the meeting to come over?"
Frederick faintly replied, "Yes."
Amelia couldn't discern much emotion from him. She pursed her lips, a hint of guilt flashing in her eyes.
Frederick shifted his gaze away from Amelia and said, "Vincent, I'll head back to the company and come over another day."
Vincent nodded, got up, and escorted Frederick out of the Davis Manor.
Amelia sat quietly on the sofa.
After Frederick and Vincent left the living room, she got up from the sofa to leave.
At this moment, Daniel called out to Amelia. "Amelia, nothing happened between me and Ruth that day. I was very drunk, so..."
Amelia listened quietly to Daniel's words, her gaze calm. She showed no emotional fluctuations, as if she were listening to a patient describe their condition to her.
When Daniel saw Amelia's expression, he paused. "So nothing happened between me and Ruth."
Amelia nodded gently. She didn't know what to say, but when she saw Daniel looking at her seriously, as if hoping she would say something, she hesitated for a few seconds and then said, "Drinking too much will cause a lot of trouble. You have to be careful."
She made this rational comment based on her situation.
After all, she had messed things up because she had drunk too much last night.
After saying that, Amelia walked toward the living room.
Vincent had seen Frederick off.
Carl saw Frederick off as he got into the car.
As the car left Hastings Manor, Frederick glanced out the window but didn't see Amelia. He furrowed his brows and withdrew his gaze.
When Amelia walked out of the living room, Frederick had already left.
Vincent turned back, saw Amelia coming out, and softly said, "Frederick has already left."
Amelia paused for a moment, her expression somewhat subtle, and said with a wry smile, "I'm not..."
"I know. You didn't come to see Frederick off." Before she could finish her sentence, Vincent interrupted her.
Amelia was taken aback for a moment, then said, "I just wanted to thank him, nothing else."
Vincent nodded again. "I know you didn't mean anything else."
Amelia fell silent.
