Chapter 271 Offering Himself Up for Her to Use
Frederick's cold blue eyes carried a hint of coldness and mockery. He mocked lightly, "Compared to Mr. Worthington, I'm far behind."
Kenneth noticed the hostility in his eyes, shrugged, and forced a calm smile. "I'm only better than Mr. Hastings in the area of dating. Do you want to learn? I can teach you."
Frederick responded expressionlessly, "Amelia doesn't like your vulgar dating tactics."
Kenneth fell silent.
'How are my tactics vulgar? Is it his fault for being able to sweet-talk?' Kenneth was lost in thought.
Kenneth's gaze shifted past Frederick and landed on Amelia with a hint of inquiry.
Frederick's gaze was intense. He reached out and took Amelia's hand, leading her to another elevator.
Before Kenneth could step in, he pressed the close button.
Kenneth didn't want to take the same elevator with Frederick anyway. After all, he had just flirted with Amelia, and Frederick surely held a grudge.
He turned to Tina, not annoyed, and smiled. "You really have inherited Ms. Davis's true essence."
Tina responded politely, "Mr. Worthington, you're overpraising me."
Kenneth snorted lightly and leaned closer to Tina. "Following Ms. Davis, you'll always be overshadowed and unable to shine fully. Why not follow me? I'll make you shine brightly."
Tina took a step back and declined, "Thank you for the offer, Mr. Worthington, but I need to ask Ms. Davis if she's willing to let me go."
Seeing Tina bring up Rachel, Kenneth lost interest in teasing her, snorted, and stopped talking to her.
Tina took the opportunity to leave.
As the elevator doors closed, Amelia tried to pull her hand out of Frederick's grasp. She exerted a bit of force, and Frederick tightened his grip. She looked at him and uttered, "Mr. Hastings."
"Is there something you need?" Frederick responded softly, pretending not to understand her intention.
Amelia realized he was playing dumb, so she glanced at her hand, which he tightly held.
Frederick also glanced down but showed no intention of letting go. He said with the barest hint of a smile, "You have to stay with me and not wander around."
Amelia tugged at her hand. "I'm not a child." She wouldn't run around.
"Don't you want to use me to help Davis Group grow? Then you have to listen to me," Frederick said in a low, serious tone.
Amelia was stunned, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes. She was a bit confused and inexplicably flustered, thinking, 'Amber indeed told Frederick what she had overheard. But what does Frederick mean now? Offering himself up to be used? Willingly being a tool?'
Amelia couldn't fathom why he behaved thus.
They reached the top floor.
The Montgomery family's butler led Amelia and Frederick inside.
Alvin greeted them with a polite smile, inviting Amelia and Frederick to sit.
As he spoke, Alvin glanced at Frederick holding Amelia's hand.
Frederick led Amelia to sit beside him. Then he slowly said, "I heard Mr. Montgomery hasn't been feeling well lately, so I came to check on him."
Alvin poured coffee for Frederick and Amelia. He sighed regrettably, "Unfortunately, my father left the building ten minutes ago. His condition is quite serious and requires treatment abroad. I've already arranged for a hospital in Fondaniss to take him."
Alvin glanced at his watch as he spoke, adding, "My father should be at the airport by now. I heard Rex invited Mr. Hastings to dinner last night. Didn't Rex tell you about sending Father abroad for treatment?"
Alvin was testing Frederick's stance.
Frederick remained unchanged as he calmly replied, "Rex didn't mention it."
Amelia was taken aback.
In this world, there were no such coincidences.
Elbert had to leave the building, and the elevator just happened to malfunction, trapping them inside.
It was likely that Alvin, wary of Frederick, had deliberately caused trouble.
Frederick sensed Amelia's emotional change, gently tightened his grip on her hand, and squeezed it as if to comfort her.
Alvin nodded and smiled. "Maybe Rex was too busy and forgot."
Frederick nodded slightly.
Alvin then turned his gaze to Amelia, smiling. "You must be Amelia from the Davis Manor? I remember the last time I saw you was when I had just returned to the Montgomery family. You were only five or six years old then. Time flies, and now you've grown up. I heard you're in the medical field now?"
Amelia had no impression of Alvin. Hearing his question, she nodded. "Yes."
Then she politely said, "I heard Mr. Montgomery isn't feeling well, so I came to see if there's anything I can help with."
Alvin chuckled. "Your Davis family is thoughtful, but Father's illness is beyond your help. You can assure Rachel that after I take over, the cooperation between the Montgomery family and the Davis Manor will remain unchanged."
Amelia was shocked but softly thanked him, "Thank you. I'll relay the message to Rachel."
Alvin's words indicated he was confident.
It was her first time involved in such matters, and she was utterly confused, not knowing how to react.
Frederick remained calm, offering a light congratulations, "Then I congratulate Master Montgomery in advance."
Alvin gave Frederick a deep look, his smile fading slightly. "It's too early to congratulate, but I'll accept it for now."
Alvin then discussed some businesses with Frederick. Although Amelia was confused, she listened intently, afraid she wouldn't be able to report back to Rachel.
She knew nothing about finance, feeling like she was listening to a foreign language. She gently squeezed Frederick's fingers, hoping he would simplify things for her.
However, Frederick seemed oblivious to her hint, holding her hand tightly and continuing his conversation with Alvin.
Leaving Alvin's house, Amelia was filled with their conversation, trying to grasp the key points to report back.
Frederick held her hand as they entered the elevator. As the doors closed, Amelia felt she was forgetting the key points. She turned to Frederick beside her, looking eager to learn. "About the project in the southern suburbs that Alvin mentioned..."
Frederick looked down at her furrowed brows and eager yet troubled expression, chuckling softly. "If you can't remember, don't worry. I'll relay all the information to Ms. Davis."
Amelia's eyes lit up. "Thank you."
She really couldn't remember. Finance seemed harder than medicine.
Frederick felt a stir in his heart when he saw her bright eyes. He muttered, "I don't want a verbal thank you."
Amelia raised an eyebrow.
Frederick glanced at his watch and hinted, "It's getting late, and I haven't had dinner yet."
Amelia looked up, meeting Frederick's deep blue eyes.
His meaning was clear that he wanted her to treat him to dinner.
