Chapter 278 Does He Already Know Everything?
Felix noticed Amelia wasn't responding and started to freak out.
"Should I get Mr. Hastings admitted to the hospital?" he suggested.
If Frederick was hospitalized, Amelia, being his doctor, would naturally spend more time with him.
Amelia shook her head. "No need. Just regular wound care will do."
This kind of injury didn't need hospitalization, and Frederick hated hospitals; it would be torture for him.
Felix quickly added, "Then what do I do? I'm not good at taking care of people. Mr. Hastings hurt his right hand and can't even hold a fork, let alone do other things. I can't be the one feeding him, can I? That'd be so weird."
"And he doesn't like strangers around him. He's busy with work and often forgets his meds. Plus, I have company stuff to handle."
Amelia looked at Felix's worried face and then at Frederick, who was also watching her.
Seeing her troubled expression, Frederick spoke up, "I'm fine. It's just a minor injury. No need to worry or feel guilty."
Felix wished he could shove a sock in Frederick's mouth. This was the perfect time to play the sympathy card, and he was blowing it!
Amelia looked at him and said softly, "From today on, I'll take care of your meals. If you need anything, just call me."
Frederick got hurt because of her. If she did nothing, she'd feel guilty.
Felix was thrilled to see Amelia agree and quickly thanked her. "Thank you, Ms. Davis. I really appreciate it."
Amelia pressed her lips together, glanced at Frederick's bandaged hand, and said softly, "I should be the one thanking him."
She looked up at Frederick, her eyes shining, and said seriously, "Thank you."
If it weren't for Frederick, she would've been stabbed by Rodolfo. Given his craziness, it might not have been just one stab. Or maybe, in a panic, she might have used her hand to block it. If her hand had been injured like Frederick's, it would have been completely ruined, and she would never be able to hold a scalpel again.
So Frederick didn't just block a stab for her; he saved her entire career.
Frederick raised his right hand, wanting to pat Amelia's head, but as soon as he lifted it, a sharp pain shot through his palm.
He immediately withdrew his hand and gently responded, "As long as you're not hurt, it's fine. Given our relationship, you don't need to be so polite with me."
Amelia took a deep breath and said seriously, "Don't do this again. The Hastings family can't be without you, and the Hastings Group can't go a day without its leader. If you were seriously injured because of me, I couldn't afford it."
"You don't need to afford it," Frederick replied just as seriously. "I'm willing to get hurt for you."
Amelia's heart skipped a beat. She looked up at Frederick, deeply moved. She murmured, "Frederick..."
Amber saw Frederick and Amelia standing at the emergency room door and quickly walked over to Frederick, grabbing his hand to check it.
Amelia's expression stiffened when she saw Amber. The tears in her eyes disappeared, and she calmed down.
She almost forgot there was always someone between them.
Frederick frowned and shook off Amber's hand, a hint of disgust in his eyes.
Amber stumbled back, panic flashing across her face. She quickly explained, "Rodolfo found me, said he missed Maria but had no money to see her, so he asked for my help. I felt sorry for him, so I bought him a ticket to Kasfee."
"I didn't expect him to get so agitated when he saw Dr. Davis. I had no idea about his family issues or that Dr. Davis was involved..." Tears started streaming down Amber's face.
Amelia shot Amber a cold look and said to Frederick, "I'll go back to the office to get your medication."
With that, she walked away.
Frederick didn't hesitate and followed Amelia, saying, "I want to go to your office for some water."
Amelia paused, then nodded. "Okay."
Amber's crying continued behind them. She kept repeating, "Frederick, this really has nothing to do with me."
Felix, standing quietly to the side, reminded her, "Ms. Roberts, Mr. Hastings has already walked away. Maybe you should volume up."
Amber's face changed, and she stopped crying. She angrily questioned, "Felix, why are you targeting me?"
Felix gave her a calm look. "Ms. Roberts, you really have a short memory. When you took that million dollars from Brittany, I was right beside Mrs. Hastings."
Felix was still an intern at the Hastings Group back then. After Amber left, Brittany had arranged for him to be Frederick's assistant.
Amber's face turned pale at Felix's words. She hadn't paid attention to the person standing behind Brittany back then.
Felix snapped, "Ms. Roberts, didn't you say you would never regret taking that check?"
Amber bit her lip hard. "That was because Mrs. Hastings never agreed to me being with Frederick, so I took the money to study abroad, just to become the best version of myself to stand by Frederick's side..."
Felix calmly looked at her and interrupted, "Didn't you ask Brittany for that money?"
Amber hurriedly defended herself, "No, Brittany offered it to me. I didn't ask for it!"
Felix frowned and said softly, "The butler by Mrs. Hastings' side is my uncle."
Amber's expression froze.
Felix continued, "When you first got together with Frederick, Mrs. Hastings did say she would give you money to leave Frederick, but that was before the Hastings Group faced a crisis."
"After the Hastings Group faced a crisis, you went to Mrs. Hastings yourself and said you had made up your mind to break up with Frederick. You asked Mrs. Hastings to fulfill her promise and give you the money." he hinted, before walking away.
Amber had been trying to mask her actions of taking Brittany's money all these years, deceiving even herself.
Now that Felix had exposed everything so bluntly, she was extremely nervous.
She quickly chased after Felix and grabbed his arm. She anxiously pressed, "Does Frederick already know? Does he know all of this?"
Felix shook off Amber's hand, ignored her, and walked away quickly.
Amber took a deep breath, thinking about Frederick's indifferent attitude toward her over the years. He must have known about those things back then.
She bit her lip hard, her face full of panic.
