Chapter 141 Were They Cousins?
Amelia listened to Frederick's words, and a subtle change flickered across her face.
Madison is Brittany's younger sister. During Amelia and Frederick's marriage, Amelia didn't get along well with her.
But she didn't expect that Dylan's family could be related to Madison.
She sighed inwardly and cooled her emotions. She maintained a gentle and gracious demeanor with a smile on her face.
"My grandmother wasn't feeling well some time ago, but she's been slowly recovering lately."
"This must be the cousin from the Hastings family. It's been a long time. I almost didn't recognize you."
Dylan noticed Amelia's discomfort and subtly switched places with her while talking to Frederick.
Amelia secretly breathed a sigh of relief, sitting in Dylan's former seat while Dylan took hers.
Frederick glanced at Dylan, his eyes carrying a hint of something else.
For some reason, Dylan felt a slight hostility in Frederick's gaze but couldn't pinpoint its source, so he responded with a smile.
Frederick's gaze swept over Dylan and then glanced at Amelia.
"We haven't seen each other in a long time."
Amelia was already chatting with Dylan, and their conversation was sporadic.
Seeing Frederick appear, Amelia's expression didn't change much, which inexplicably irritated Frederick.
Although Amelia didn't show any panic on her face, she was worried that Frederick might say something inappropriate at this moment.
Despite being married to Frederick for three years, they never held a wedding, and Frederick never took Amelia to any family gatherings of the Hastings family.
So, Amelia only knew Madison, not Madison's son and daughter-in-law.
She never expected Dylan to be Madison's grandson.
Fortunately, Madison didn't come today. Otherwise, her recently recovered health might have taken a hit.
Frederick and Dylan weren't very familiar with each other.
Frederick withdrew his gaze from Amelia, leaned back in his chair, and spoke as if making small talk.
"We had some contact before you went abroad. But after you left, we lost touch."
"I thought you had forgotten about your cousin."
Dylan smiled awkwardly and was about to explain when Mr. Matthews spoke first.
"Dylan is like that, rarely keeping in touch with family. Even with us, he seldom contacts."
"If we hadn't pushed him about his marriage, he probably wouldn't have returned this time."
After speaking, Mr. Matthews looked at Amelia and addressed Dylan.
"Dylan, introduce us."
Dylan nodded slightly, looked at Amelia, and said softly.
"Amelia. This is my cousin, Frederick. You might have heard of him. He's quite famous on the domestic rich list."
Amelia nodded gently, looked up at Frederick, and maintained a gracious smile.
"Hello, Frederick."
Dylan immediately introduced Amelia to Frederick.
"Frederick. This is my girlfriend, Amelia."
Frederick looked at Amelia with a half-smile. "Hello, Amelia."
Amelia pursed her lips, politely avoiding eye contact with Frederick, feeling that the situation was very awkward.
Ms. Matthews, being sensitive, noticed Frederick's occasional glances at Amelia and asked softly.
"Frederick. Do you know Amelia?"
As soon as Ms. Matthews said this, Mr. Matthews immediately looked at Frederick.
Dylan's gaze also fell on Amelia with a hint of curiosity.
Amelia lightly pressed her lips together and gave Dylan a look. Dylan raised an eyebrow slightly, then seemed to remember something, and his expression changed slightly as he realized.
Amelia's last name is Davis.
Frederick had once been married to someone from the Davis family.
Could it be that Frederick is the jerk who abandoned Amelia?
Although Dylan was abroad, he often heard his mother gossip about the Hastings family.
She said Brittany forced Frederick into marriage but always pined for his first love, treating his wife harshly.
The Hastings family didn't even hold a wedding.
They had never seen Frederick's wife.
Dylan quickly withdrew his gaze from Amelia and looked at Frederick.
"You don't know Amelia, do you?"
Frederick's expression was indifferent as he glanced at Amelia and then looked away, his tone low and cold.
"No."
"I don't know her."
Dylan secretly breathed a sigh of relief. If Frederick had said he knew Amelia, his father might have been furious.
"Are you planning to get married?"
Frederick asked casually.
Dylan gave an awkward smile and was about to say it was too early when his father spoke first.
"We hope Dylan and Amelia can get married soon. After all, they're not young anymore."
Dylan felt very awkward.
Frederick nodded expressionlessly. "Dylan is indeed not young."
He glanced at Dylan. "How long have you and Amelia been dating? If it's not long, there's no need to rush. You should get to know each other better."
Dylan didn't know what to say.
Mr. Matthews spoke happily, "Dylan and Amelia have been dating for three years. They were schoolmates."
Mr. Matthews was very upset when he first heard that Dylan liked men.
Now that Dylan had brought Amelia to meet them, he was very pleased.
Regardless of whether Dylan liked men, he had to marry a woman. After all, the Kingsley family had a certain reputation locally, and Mr. Matthews couldn't afford to lose face.
So, he was more eager than anyone to get Dylan married soon.
Frederick frowned. "Three years?"
His deep eyes gradually filled with complex emotions.
Mr. Matthews didn't notice the change in Frederick's eyes and quickly said.
"Yes, three years. Three years is enough to understand a person."
Frederick's eyes became sullen, and he said nothing more.
Ms. Matthews quietly observed Frederick's expression, feeling that something was off.
Frederick only chatted with Mr. Matthews for a few moments before leaving the room.
After he left, Ms. Matthews smiled at Amelia and asked softly.
"Amelia. Do you not know Frederick?"
Amelia paused and was about to answer when Dylan spoke first.
"Didn't Frederick just say he doesn't know Amelia?"
"Mom, what's wrong with you?"
Amelia remained silent.
Ms. Matthews' eyes were complicated, and she smiled. "Nothing. Maybe I'm overthinking."
"I just feel like Frederick seems to know Amelia."
