Chapter 403 Planned to Abandon Him from the Start
Constance held Amelia's hand tightly. She pleaded, "Dr. Davis, please don't give up on treating Maria because of the terrible things my son has done."
Amelia patted her hand and quickly reassured her. "Mrs. Diaz, don't get too upset. Your son's mistakes have nothing to do with you, and I won't take my grievances with him out on Maria."
Constance, reassured by Amelia's response, wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
She sobbed, "We've been farmers all our lives and don't have much money saved up. We can't afford much, but we're so grateful that you can help Maria. We really appreciate it."
Constance sincerely thanked Amelia while Elijah fell silent, staring at Amelia intensely. Amelia felt the weight of his gaze and looked over at him, but Elijah immediately averted his eyes. It made Amelia feel uncomfortable.
Finally, she said a few words to comfort Constance before leaving Maria's room.
After Amelia left, Maria's room fell into silence.
Constance sat on Maria's bed, glanced at her, and asked, "Maria, do you want some water?"
Maria nodded, and Constance smiled as she went to pour water for her. However, as she poured the water, she discreetly added some black powder to it.
She had gotten it from a healer in the countryside a few days ago, who claimed it could cure all diseases.
Constance resented Amelia but also hoped Maria would recover quickly. The sooner Maria got better, the more money there would be left over for donations.
Still, if she didn't get better, things might still turn out well.
First, they had to behave in such a way as to gain Sandra's trust. If Maria really died, Sandra would surely give them some money as compensation.
Constance was scheming in her mind when she saw Elijah walking to the other side of the room to smoke. She scolded him in a low voice, "If you want to smoke, do it somewhere else, otherwise Sandra will be unhappy when she comes back. Why do you always have to look so dour? Don't worry about money. Maria can help our family get money now."
Constance then brought the water to Maria and fed it to her with a spoon.
Elijah snorted and went to the bathroom to smoke.
When Amelia returned to her office from Maria's room, she saw Dylan sitting in the chair opposite her desk as soon as she walked in.
When he saw Amelia come in, he quickly stood up from the chair and smiled. "Amelia," he said.
Amelia's eyes flashed with surprise. She walked to her chair and sat down, asking, "How do you have time to come by today?"
Dylan quickly explained, "I'm here to say goodbye. I'm flying to Fondaniss tonight. I've already prepared all the immigration documents. I might not come back to Kasfee often, and I don't know when we'll meet again."
Amelia looked up at Dylan and asked him, seriously, "Have you made up your mind?"
Dylan nodded with a warm smile, just like the first time Amelia met him. "Yes, I have. I'm taking a private jet with Ken back to Fondaniss tonight," he said gladly.
Amelia pursed her lips and asked, "What about Ms. Made?"
Dylan sighed and replied, "Of course, she's coming too."
Amelia frowned, "Can the two of you get along?"
Dylan's eyes showed a hint of pride. "She has no choice but to get along with me. She and Ken are in a marriage of convenience. She knows Ken's heart is with me. She can't compete. She doesn't want a divorce, so she has to endure it," he replied.
Amelia was momentarily speechless.
Dylan then changed the subject and said, "Although I already made my decision, now I feel a bit reluctant. My parents are the ones I worry about the most. Amelia, if you have time, could you please keep my mother company? Without me, my father won't understand her, and life might be very difficult for her."
Amelia remained silent, not knowing how to respond.
Dylan's smile turned a bit bitter. He muttered, "I know I'm being selfish, but people have to live for themselves. I want to pursue what I want."
Amelia took a deep breath, unable to say how she really felt about the matter. She sighed, "If you ever feel wronged over there, remember to come back to Kasfee. This will always be your home, and your parents will always be waiting for you."
Dylan, being a sensitive person, couldn't help but get teary-eyed at Amelia's words, but he still wore a stubborn smile. He said, "Ken won't let that happen. He promised me he would divorce Line, and I believe he will honor that promise soon."
Amelia fell into a pensive silence. Seeing this, Dylan tactfully changed the topic.
Amelia played the role of a good listener, not expressing her own opinions.
After a while, Dylan's phone rang. Dylan glanced at the caller ID, picked up the phone, and waved it at Amelia, saying softly, "It's Ken. He might be urging me to go back to the hotel to pack up and get ready to leave. Amelia, I have to go now. Goodbye."
He said this as he stood up from the chair, answering Ken's call while walking out, not giving Amelia any chance to respond.
Amelia watched him go, sighed, and stood up to see him off to the elevator.
As Dylan entered the elevator, he waved goodbye to Amelia with a smile, and Amelia waved back.
Once the elevator doors closed, Dylan's face immediately fell, and he spoke in fluent Fondanissian. "Wasn't it agreed that we would leave tonight? Why are we leaving now?
"I'm already on my way back. I just need ten minutes to get to the airport. Ken, you have to wait for me. You must wait for me!"
Ken's voice came through the phone without any emotion. "Be good. Line and I are heading back to Fondaniss first. I'll have my assistant accompany you on the next flight. The plane is already taking off, so I can't talk anymore."
After saying this, Ken hung up the call.
Dylan's face turned pale. He tried calling back, but Ken's phone had already been turned off.
Ken's assistant saw Dylan coming out of the hospital and drove the car to Dylan's side before getting out and opening the door for him.
Dylan suppressed his anger and asked, "So from the beginning, Ken planned not to let me take the private jet back to Fondaniss with him, and he deliberately sent me to say goodbye to Amelia so he could leave without me, right?"
