Chapter 129 Ultimately, It Was Not Good to Continue Fantasizing About Him

Amelia's lips curled slightly, and she smiled. She looked up at the man who was just a step away from her and said softly, "You're overthinking it. In the three years in Fondaniss, I have long since gotten rid of the bad habit of needing a familiar environment to sleep well. No matter who is by my side, I can sleep soundly."

Taking advantage of Frederick's momentary distraction, Amelia reached out and directly took the car keys from his palm.

"Sorry for troubling you, Mr. Hastings."

With that, Amelia turned and left Frederick's bedroom.

As the car keys were taken away from him, Frederick frowned. He withdrew his hand, and put both hands in his pockets. His eyes became cold.

Paul heard the conversation between Amelia and Frederick in the study, then heard Amelia's footsteps as she walked out. He immediately came out of the study to keep Amelia from helping Frederick.

"Ms. Davis. Breakfast is ready. Have breakfast first before going back."

Amelia shook her head, refusing. "No need. I'll have breakfast at Davis Manor."

She finished speaking and walked out the door.

As the sound of the door closing echoed, Frederick finally walked out of the bedroom, looking not too pleased.

Paul kept his head down, not daring to breathe. "Mr. Hastings."

Though Frederick's gaze was cold, he walked straight into the dining room, sat down, and had his meal.

Paul thought Frederick would question him about calling Amelia over, but Frederick didn't even mention it. Paul's tense heart relaxed as well.

Amelia drove back to Davis Manor from the Pearl Building.

Daniel and Vincent were already awake, exercising in the yard. Anna sat on a small stool beside them, obediently eating fruit.

Seeing Amelia enter the house, Anna immediately jumped off the stool and ran toward her.

"Mommy."

Amelia bent down to pick up Anna, a gentle smile on her face as she kissed Anna's cheek.

"I missed you, mommy." Anna hugged Amelia tightly, leaning close to her. "Where did you go last night?"

After Amelia carried Anna to Rachel's room last night, Anna woke up. She watched Amelia leave and then moved closer to Rachel, asking softly, "Aunt Rachel, is mommy going out to save someone?"

Her sensible and obedient demeanor touched Rachel's heart.

If it weren't for a very important meeting at the Davis Group early this morning that required her presence, Rachel would have wanted to stay home with Anna all day.

"A patient had a sudden illness last night, so I had to go take care of it. I left in a hurry last night and forgot to tell you. I'm sorry. It's my fault."

Anna got the answer she wanted and rested her little head on Amelia's shoulder. "It's okay."

She generously forgave Amelia.

Daniel and Vincent stopped their exercise. Before Daniel could speak, Vincent spoke first.

"Is Frederick okay?"

That morning, before Rachel left, she told Vincent that Amelia went to Frederick's place.

The Vanderbilts had been calling Vincent during this time, hoping that he could divert Daniel's attention.

Amelia's heart wasn't with Daniel, and it was clear to the Vanderbilts. But Daniel was persistent. Only when he gave up would he agree to go on blind dates.

Vincent didn't want to hurt Daniel's feelings. But his persistence wasn't good for the friendly relationship between the two families.

Daniel paused at Vincent's words, then looked at Amelia. Amelia remained composed, carrying Anna into the house.

"He's not in great shape. He just had a drink last night, got sick, and couldn't take medicine to relieve it. So he was in pain all night."

Anna tilted her head, looking at Amelia, and asked obediently. "Do you mean Uncle Frederick?"

Frederick's name had been mentioned to Anna frequently recently, so she remembered it right away. Before Amelia could answer, Anna's expression immediately turned worried. "Is Uncle Frederick sick again?"

Raising an eyebrow at her anxious look, Amelia reached out and pinched her cheek, changing the subject. "Have you had breakfast?"

Anna nodded obediently. "Yes." Although she answered Amelia's questions promptly, she was still concerned about Frederick. "Mommy. Didn't you cure Uncle Frederick's illness?"

The image of needles in Frederick's hands was still in her little mind.

She naturally had a fondness for Frederick, so she was anxious.

Looking at her worried expression, Amelia pursed her lips, momentarily unsure how to respond.

Vincent reached out, took Anna from Amelia's arms, and kindly said, "Uncle Frederick's body needs time to recover slowly. Do you miss him?"

Anna nodded obediently.

Vincent smiled. "Great. I am going to his company this afternoon. Do you want to go see Uncle Frederick with me?"

Anna nodded again. "Yes." After answering, she looked down at her home clothes. "I want to change into nice clothes."

Vincent let go of her as she struggled to get down.

She ran to Susan, took her hand, and asked her to take her upstairs to change clothes. Susan usually always complied with Anna's requests. So she set aside her work and took her upstairs.

Amelia rubbed her forehead. "Dad..."

She had just started speaking when Vincent interrupted her. "I know what you want to say. But Frederick is Anna's father after all, and Anna likes him. She is growing up day by day. There will be times when she needs her father. It's good for them to have more contact now."

Amelia was speechless.

Daniel standing by had no chance to intervene in such a conversation.

Vincent glanced at the time, seeming to remember something, and looked up at Daniel. "Daniel. Your flight is at ten, isn't it?"

Daniel nodded. "Yes."

Vincent looked at Amelia and said softly, "Amelia, take Daniel to the airport later, and you can have a good talk on the way."

Amelia knew what Vincent wanted her to talk to Daniel about. She had overheard the call from the Vanderbilts a couple of days ago.

After breakfast, Amelia left with Daniel.

Daniel sat in the passenger seat beside Amelia. He was usually talkative, but today he remained silent.

After hesitating, Amelia decided to speak up. "Daniel, I..."

Daniel looked at Amelia and cut her off. "Amelia, we're just friends."

Amelia paused, completely caught off guard by Daniel's words.

Daniel's words completely blocked the words she had prepared. She felt awkward telling Daniel not to harbor any illusions about her.
