Chapter 164 She Saw Amelia, Inevitably Guilty

Amelia walked to the underground parking lot, opened the car door, and sat in the driver's seat.

She didn't start the car immediately but sat back in the seat, with Frederick's image telling her not to bother him flashing through her mind.

She took a deep breath, feeling a lump in her heart.

After all, Brittany was his only family, and now that such a problem had arisen, his mind must be very fragile, so she wanted to stay and accompany him.

In order not to disturb his thoughts, she chose to sit in the farthest position from him.

She didn't expect that, and even though she had tried to lower her presence as much as possible, he still found her annoying.

She was annoyed at her weakness and regretted not retaliating against Frederick when he treated her like that.

She gritted her teeth, rubbed her forehead, silently admonished herself not to argue with him, and calmly started the car.

Just as she was about to leave, a strange number called in.

The incoming call from this unfamiliar number was from Seaspring Valley City. Amelia narrowed her eyes slightly, answered the call, and put the phone to her ear.

She didn't speak first, already knowing who it was.

"Ms. Davis?"

Amber's voice sounded somewhat puzzled, perhaps not expecting Amelia to remain silent after answering the phone.

After hearing her voice, Amelia's eyes flashed with a hint of mockery. Leaning back in her seat, she lightly hummed, "Ms. Roberts, so leisurely."

Amber sighed softly, her tone slightly serious.

"I didn't want to disturb you in the middle of the night, but Frederick is feeling unwell, so I called to bother you."

Amelia furrowed her brows slightly, thinking of Frederick sitting back in his seat with his head tilted back and eyes closed, and then she realized he was enduring pain.

Seeing that Amelia didn't respond, Amber spoke softly again,

"Frederick tonight..."

Amelia hung up on Amber with a cold face, pushed open the car door, extended a foot but then retracted it, closed the door, and messaged Paul.

"Did Frederick take his medicine on time tonight? If he didn't, take the medicine to him at the hospital. There's a nurse on duty tonight. He can rest in his room."

After sending this message, she started the car and headed back to the Davis Manor.

The Davis Manor.

Amelia parked the car in the garage, entered the house, and saw Vincent coming out of his bedroom.

"Rachel called last night and said Brittany had a stroke and was taken to the hospital. How is she now?"

Brittany was old, and this stroke was very dangerous for an elder of her age.

"She's stable for now, but there may be some aftereffects."

Vincent sighed lightly. "Is Frederick back?"

Amelia nodded.

Vincent wanted to say something more, but Amelia spoke first, "Dad, don't worry. Go rest early."

There was a hint of fatigue in her expression, and Vincent said, "You should rest early, too. Don't overthink it."

Amelia nodded and walked upstairs.

She returned to her room, saw Anna already lying on her small bed asleep, walked to her bedside, and couldn't help but rub her little head gently, a gentle smile on her face.

Anna seemed to sense Amelia's touch and nuzzled her head in Amelia's palm.

Amelia watched her quietly, a smile playing on her lips, feeling much better.

After Anna fell asleep again, she went to the bathroom to freshen up.

The next day, after having breakfast with Anna, Amelia went to the hospital.

She glanced into Frederick's room but didn't see anyone.

After the morning meeting, she went to the intensive care unit to check.

As soon as she walked out of the elevator, she saw Scott and Amber sitting in chairs.

When Amber saw Amelia, a subtle emotion flashed in her eyes.

She had called Amelia last night hoping to make Amelia misunderstand that she was living with Frederick, but Frederick had already returned to Kasfee last night.

She had asked the night nurse about it this morning, and when Brittany was brought to the ICU last night, Amelia was with Frederick.

Fortunately, she had only mentioned that Frederick was feeling unwell without explicitly stating that Frederick was with her.

Otherwise, Amelia would have mocked her last night.

Although Amber reassured herself that there was nothing major, seeing Amelia now still made her inexplicably guilty.

She didn't dare to meet Amelia's gaze, but fortunately, Amelia's gaze didn't linger on them for too long.

Scott saw Amelia walk out of the elevator and immediately put on a frivolous smile.

"Good morning, Ms. Davis."

Amelia glanced around, didn't see Frederick, and furrowed her brows slightly.

Paul answered a call and walked out from the stairwell, greeting Amelia quickly.

"Ms. Davis."

Amelia nodded lightly, walked to the window of the intensive care unit, and looked inside.

Brittany was lying on the hospital bed, eyes closed, the ECG machine steady.

"Has Brittany said anything after waking up today?"

Paul's expression was heavy. "She hasn't said anything."

He looked worried when he spoke, and Amelia knew there were outsiders present, so he couldn't talk freely.

Last night, when Brittany came out of the emergency room, trying to speak but unable to, Amelia had already prepared for the worst in her heart.

Some elderly people became paralyzed directly after a stroke, and some lost the ability to speak.

Brittany already had difficulty walking before this.

If she lost her ability to speak now...

Amelia felt a headache coming on.

Amber pursed her lips, slowly stood up from her seat, and looked at Amelia with a gentle gaze, softly saying,

"Ms. Davis, you don't need to worry too much. Brittany is very lucky, and there won't be any problems."

Amelia withdrew her gaze, didn't even look at Amber, and said to Paul,

"Brittany needs rest and quiet now, so let's ask others not to visit for the time being."

After Amelia finished speaking, the doctor from the ICU came over, and she went to talk to him.

Scott smiled, stood up from his seat, glanced at Amber, and said,

"Ms. Davis has asked you to leave. Ms. Roberts, let's go."

Amber bit her lip, glanced at Brittany in the ICU, sighed inwardly, and left with Scott.

As they left, they met Frederick coming out of the elevator.

Frederick saw Amber, his eyes slightly sullen, and he spoke coldly,

"Weren't you in Seaspring Valley City?"

Amber bit her lip and said softly, "I heard Brittany was sick, so I postponed work and came to see her."

Frederick's face remained cold.

"I don't think Brittany wants to see you."
