Chapter 114 The Medicine Doesn't Work, Why is He Getting Worse?
The next day, Frederick arrived at the department punctually at 10 o'clock. Amelia had just performed a minor surgery, and when she returned to her office, she saw Frederick sitting there with a cold expression on his face. It seemed like he didn't rest well last night, as there were dark circles around his eyes.
After giving him the examination form, Amelia took him to the examination room. She stood closer to him while he underwent the examination. He caught a faint fragrance from her body. Although he was uncomfortable during the examination, his heart was comforted. He reached out and held onto Amelia's clothes, and she didn't remove his hand.
As she looked at the screen, she furrowed her brows slightly. "In the next six months, it's best if you participate in fewer networking dinners and avoid drinking alcohol." Her voice sounded heavy. Then, she carefully and meticulously examined Frederick.
After the examination, Frederick still held onto her clothes tightly. Amelia glanced down at his hand, pursed her lips, and then said, "The examination is over."
Only then did Frederick release his hand.
As he looked at Amelia tenderly and ardently, he cleared his throat slightly. But soon, he composed himself and left the examination room.
Amelia went upstairs to her office after receiving the examination report. Frederick was already lying on the hospital bed, with a nurse administering an IV to him.
When Amelia arrived to visit his hospital room, there were already quite a few people gathered inside. Most of them were high-ranking executives from the Hastings Group and those who had worked with Frederick.
Rachel had also heard the news of Frederick being hospitalized. As she was about to leave, Anna jumped off the couch.
From Vincent and Rachel's previous conversation, Anna had learned that Rachel was going to Amelia's workplace. So she ran up to Rachel and blocked her path, raising her hands directly, asking to be picked up.
"Aunt Rachel, I want a hug."
Rachel raised an eyebrow. Then, she lifted Anna up. For a moment, she didn't quite understand what Anna meant.
"Anna, I can only hold you for a moment because I'm about to leave. I'll come back and spend time with you tonight, okay?"
Anna shook her head, clinging tightly to Rachel's neck.
"Aunt Rachel, I want to go with you."
Rachel raised an eyebrow. Then, she looked at Vincent.
Seeing the situation, Vincent didn't stop them. He simply said softly, "Take her with you. After all, he's in the hospital, Anna should go and see him too."
Anna had grown up. Frederick was currently single, so Vincent didn't want to hide anything from him.
If Amelia and Frederick had a chance to reconcile, then Anna could have a complete family. That would be the best outcome.
With Vincent's permission, Rachel carried Anna out. Susan also went out with them.
After all, Rachel lacked experience in taking care of children, so Susan accompanied them to be more cautious.
Sebastian's car was parked at the entrance of Davis Manor. When he saw Rachel carrying Anna out, he suddenly regretted driving himself today.
If he had let the driver come, he would still have a chance to hold Anna.
Sebastian reached out and rubbed Anna's head. Then, he started the car and headed to General Hospital.
Inside the hospital, Frederick's room fell into silence because he had made an excuse to send away those who came to visit him.
A few minutes later, Sebastian's teasing voice could be heard from outside the door.
"How did you end up getting yourself into the hospital?"
Frederick looked up and glanced at Sebastian as he entered. Looking at Sebastian, who appeared very energetic and happy, he couldn't help but recall Sebastian blocking him on Instagram.
He looked slightly displeased, and coldly scanned Sebastian.
"What are you here for?"
Sebastian knew that Frederick was still angry, so he smiled and said, "Of course I came to see you."
Just as he finished speaking, Rachel walked into the hospital room with Anna in her arms.
Anna's round eyes curiously stared at Frederick lying in bed.
Frederick had a handsome appearance. Anna had always liked handsome guys since she was little, so when she saw Frederick at this moment, she stared at him dumbfounded.
Frederick also looked at Anna. When he saw that Anna looked ninety percent similar to Amelia, he was shocked.
For some reason, an unnamed emotion arose within him.
He didn't dislike this child.
After seeing Frederick's reaction, Rachel smiled slightly.
"Mr. Hastings, you need to cooperate well with Amelia's treatment during this time. In half a month, it will be the fourth anniversary of the establishment of Ascending Company. You will still need to give a speech on stage for this year's anniversary celebration."
Currently, Ascending Company was doing well in business. The amount of profits each year was considerable. Therefore, both Rachel and Frederick had high expectations for Ascending Company's development.
"You don't have to worry about me, I don't have any major problems," Frederick replied to Rachel with a serious face.
At the same time, he no longer looked at Anna.
Rachel didn't say much after hearing his words. She sat on a nearby chair with Anna in her arms.
Sebastian and Frederick chatted about other topics, while Rachel occasionally chimed in.
Anna had slipped out of Rachel's embrace and walked to Frederick's bedside. Frederick's hand, which was receiving an IV, hung over the edge of the bed.
Anna went over and blew on his hand.
Frederick was talking to Sebastian about the current difficulties of the Kingsley Group. Suddenly, he felt the back of his hand that was receiving the IV was a bit cold. He paused for a moment. Then he turned his head to look at Anna, who was blowing on his hand by his bedside.
His expression froze instantly. At this moment, he didn't know how to react, so he just stared at her blankly.
Anna looked up, locking her round, bright eyes with Frederick's.
She tilted her head and looked at Frederick with an innocent expression.
"Does it still hurt?"
When she fell down before, Susan had told her blowing on it would make it stop hurting. That's why when Anna saw the needle on Frederick's hand, she thought about blowing on it.
Frederick's voice was slightly hoarse as he shook his head slightly.
"It doesn't hurt anymore."
Although he had a strange feeling in his heart, he did not pull his hand away. He continued to keep his hand in the same position.
Anna lightly touched the back of his hand. She felt that he was lying to her.
When she got her vaccination shot, she found it painful.
She blew on Frederick again. Amelia walked in and happened to see this scene.
When she saw how seriously Anna was blowing on Frederick's hand, she paused. Then, she walked into the ward.
"Anna, you shouldn't touch..." she paused. Then she continued, "You shouldn't touch Uncle Frederick's needle, it will hurt him. And it can cause bleeding."
After hearing Amelia's voice, Anna immediately let go of Frederick and ran toward Amelia.
She tightly hugged Amelia's thigh. Her voice was cheerful. "Mommy! Mommy, I want a hug."
Amelia had been in contact with many patients while wearing her work uniform. Although she had disinfected herself with alcohol, she didn't pick up Anna.
After all, Anna was still young and had poor immunity.
Rachel understood what Amelia meant, so she reached out and picked Anna up.
"Anna, your mom is tired from work. She doesn't have the strength to carry you anymore. I'll hold you instead, okay?"
After hearing Rachel's words, Anna really didn't let Amelia carry her anymore, but obediently looked at Amelia.
Frederick lay quietly on the hospital bed, watching this scene, and he felt a great sense of bitterness.
He frowned. He thought that the medicine must not be effective, otherwise, why did he feel like the pain was getting worse?
