Chapter 342 She Couldn't Afford to Lose Her Income

Nicole looked determined, like she was ready to give up everything and run off with Jesse.

Amelia stared at her for a while, remaining silent.

Nicole forced a weak smile, stood up, and said softly, "I won't bother you anymore. I'll go check on Jesse. He's worse off than me."

Before Amelia could reply, Nicole had already left the office.

All these events were giving Amelia a headache.

She rubbed her temples, feeling overwhelmed. By the end of the work day, she was dizzy. She took her temperature and had a high fever, just as she thought.

Amelia grabbed some fever medicine from her drawer, took one, and left the hospital.

Frederick had skipped the office in the morning and took Anna out at noon, which delayed his work, so he ended up working late.

Despite his busy day, he arranged for a driver to pick Amelia up from the hospital.

When Amelia saw Frederick's assistant outside, she got into the car.

The assistant kept glancing at her in the rearview mirror.

Amelia noticed and asked calmly, "Got something to say?"

The assistant quickly shook his head, "No."

Amelia looked out the window and asked, "Are you nervous because Amber went to see Frederick at the company?"

The assistant replied, "She did go, but Mr. Hastings didn't see her. I'm just worried you'll be upset if you see her there."

"It's fine," Amelia said flatly.

Maybe because of the fever medicine, Amelia felt tired and closed her eyes.

The assistant couldn't read her expression and sighed, focusing on driving.

Amber, in a hospital gown, was kneeling at the Hastings Group entrance, trying to see Frederick.

Her pitiful state drew a crowd.

The Hastings Group's PR team was on standby, worried Amber would cause a scene.

The assistant had heard some things about Amelia and Frederick from Felix recently.

He knew Amber was a big factor in Amelia and Frederick's strained relationship.

So he was worried that if Amelia saw Amber and left, Frederick would blame him.

The assistant drove into the parking lot.

Amber, on the other hand, was still kneeling at the entrance.

The assistant glanced at Amelia in the back seat and said softly, "Ms. Davis, we're here..."

But Amelia was already asleep.

The assistant didn't say anything else and texted Felix.

Assistant: [Ms. Davis is asleep in the car. What should I do?]

Felix got the message and knocked on Frederick's door.

Frederick was busy with paperwork.

Felix walked in and said softly, "Ms. Davis is asleep in the car. The assistant said she looks unwell, probably caught a cold last night."

Frederick frowned, put down his work, got up, and grabbed a coat.

Anna was sprawled on the sofa, doodling on a piece of paper.

Frederick had given her some documents to scribble on, and they were scattered around her.

Frederick walked over to pick her up, but Susan, standing nearby, quickly said, "Mr. Hastings, I heard there might be reporters outside. If you carry Ms. Anna Davis down, they might take photos."

Frederick's eyes darkened. Amelia had protected Anna so well all these years. It would be a failure if reporters snapped photos on the first day he brought her out.

He withdrew his hand and patted Anna's head instead. "Anna, I'm going to pick up your mom. Be good and wait here. I'll be right back."

Anna, focused on her drawing, nodded. "Okay, Uncle Frederick."

Frederick felt a pang at her calling him "Uncle Frederick" and left the office gloomily.

Since waking up, Anna refused to call him "Dad" and instead called him "Uncle Frederick," ignoring his feelings.

Felix thought Frederick was having a tough time with both Amelia and Anna. It was truly pitiful.

When Frederick hurried out of the elevator, Amber's eyes lit up, thinking he had come for her.

She tried to get up, but her knees were weak from kneeling too long.

Frederick strode toward the entrance without even glancing at her.

Amber panicked and grabbed his leg, pleading, "Frederick, help me. I'm really out of options, so I came to you."

Felix had already briefed Frederick on Amber's situation.

Frederick knew Amber's old illness had relapsed.

He frowned coldly, and security quickly stepped in to separate Amber from Frederick.

Amber clung to his leg, begging, "Frederick, for the sake of our past, help me. I promise I won't bother you again."

Frederick's face was solemn as he spoke coldly. "If you're sick, go see a doctor."

Amber's expression stiffened. "I did, but Dr. Davis refused to treat me. She did my previous surgery, and I want her to do it again. Frederick, we were once in love..."

Frederick's cold stare made her choke on her words.

Amber softened her tone, pleading, "Frederick, I'm really out of options. If Dr. Davis operates on me, I promise I'll never disturb you again. I'll go abroad and stay far away."

"You went to see her?" Frederick's voice was dangerously low, with a hint of hidden anger.

Amber hesitated.

Frederick's gaze exuded a frosty chill. "Amber, not taking action against you and treating you as a stranger is already giving you enough face. If you keep disturbing her, you'll lose everything."

Felix placed a document in front of Amber.

Amber picked it up and saw her financial information. Her face turned pale.

If this info got out, she'd be blacklisted and never make money online again.

She couldn't afford to lose her income!
