Chapter 240: She Wants to Salvage Her Image in Frederick's Eyes
Jessica suddenly darkened her face, looking extremely displeased.
Everyone stepped forward to persuade her to stop talking.
Amelia glanced at her indifferently. Seeing Jessica's angry expression, Amelia realized that staying here would only bring more trouble. So, after taking the treatment plan, Amelia left the temporary office of the assistant team.
Watching Amelia leave, Jessica looked even worse. Jessica scolded with an ugly expression, "All you do is try to persuade me. What else can you do? The people from Kasfee General Hospital are almost trampling us! And you still swallow your anger."
Everyone remained silent.
Amelia usually didn't interact much with them privately. In their minds, Amelia was a very distant person. Besides, it was Jessica who had started the trouble, so they only tried to calm Jessica down.
Where Maria received treatment wasn't something the assistants could control, anyway.
Tideport City Hospital didn't want to purchase the equipment, but General Hospital did. That was beneficial for the researchers.
Moreover, they were just assistants to the professors. If Maria's illness were cured, they would only be participants. Ultimately, the attention would be on the esteemed professors.
Jessica had Mr. Brown paving the way for her, so the attention she received was naturally different from theirs.
To them, it was more about gaining experience, as opportunities like this were rare.
Seeing everyone silent, Jessica was furious but had no recourse.
She gritted her teeth and walked out of the assistant team.
Kimberly had already worked things out among the professors. In the end, they agreed to transfer Maria to Kasfee General Hospital.
General Hospital was also willing to label it as a collaboration with Tideport City Hospital, so everyone focused their attention on Maria.
However, Sandra approached the professors, expressing that she didn't want to leave Tideport City unless necessary.
Sandra muttered, "Maria grew up in Tideport City, and her condition is stable now. I really don't want to take any risks. I've discussed it with my parents, and they feel the same way."
While saying this, Sandra could hardly make eye contact with Amelia.
Amelia didn't expect Sandra to refuse after hesitating. Just as she was about to persuade her, Jessica quickly spoke up, "I think we should respect the wishes of the patient's family. Although Maria's condition is stable now, there's no guarantee that nothing will go wrong during the transfer."
Jessica added, "Since General Hospital has already purchased the medical equipment, why don't we borrow it for use here? Ms. Davis said it was bought for the patients, right? Why doesn't Ms. Davis discuss it with General Hospital?"
Professor Brown frowned slightly at Jessica's words. He called out, "Jessica!"
Jessica pouted and looked provocatively at Amelia.
Before Amelia could speak, Kimberly turned cold.
Kimberly criticized, "That's a robber's mentality."
Jessica blushed at Kimberly's reprimand. She argued, "You just want to use Maria for fame and fortune!"
Sandra remained silent.
Kimberly was infuriated by Jessica's words.
Amelia reached out to pat her back, looking calmly at Jessica.
Amelia said calmly, "If Maria is ultimately cured, my name doesn't have to appear on the final treatment team list. I voluntarily withdraw."
Everyone fell silent at Amelia's words.
Jessica was still unconvinced, retorting, "You're sure Maria can't be cured. I could say the same thing."
"Jessica, get out!" Professor Brown scolded Jessica with a stern face.
Professor Brown received a lot of flak for getting Jessica on the treatment team. People said he was paving the way for his daughter, ignoring his students' feelings and complaints.
If Jessica really quit in a fit of anger with Amelia, all his efforts would be wasted.
Jessica saw her father's displeasure and anger, bit her lip, and stopped talking.
Professor Brown took a deep breath and declared, "Since Maria's family doesn't agree to go to Kasfee, we'll proceed with the previous treatment plan."
"Dr. Davis, I'm really sorry." He said apologetically.
Amelia remained silent.
Kimberly was also indifferent.
Everyone left the conference room.
Sandra stood up from her seat, looking apologetically at Amelia.
Sandra spoke quietly, "I'm sorry, Dr. Davis. I really don't want my daughter to take any risks, and I don't want her to be a guinea pig for new medical equipment."
General Hospital, a hospital for the elite, wasn't a place for ordinary families like hers.
Sandra was worried that if they went to General Hospital, they would soon be troubled by treatment costs again.
The tension-filled days they endured had sapped the family's vitality. However, with the aid of a benefactor, they managed to settle their debts, leaving a surplus for Maria's medical care.
Maria's illness wouldn't be cured in a month or two. It could take a year or two.
A month at General Hospital could exhaust all their current funds.
So Sandra had her concerns.
Amelia waved her hand and replied, "It's okay."
As a mother, worrying about potential problems with transferring Maria to Kasfee was normal. Amelia understood this mindset.
Sandra left the conference room, looking apologetic.
Kimberly sighed, rubbing her temples, looking both angry and helpless. She comforted, "Amelia, that's how the road of medicine is. Not everything goes as planned. Don't be too upset."
Amelia nodded lightly. "I know."
She had always understood this. Her path at Fondaniss had not been smooth, but she had persisted.
Although she felt a bit regretful, she was willing to respect the patient's choice.
Kimberly was silent for a while, then said, "We've been in Tideport City for almost a week now. Maria's condition is stable, and we've discussed the treatment plan. We've tried our best to pursue new treatments, but the family disagrees, so we must respect their wishes. Next week, we'll return to Kasfee General Hospital."
Amelia nodded. "Okay."
As Kimberly and Amelia left the conference room, everyone started to get busy.
Despite working in the hospital for many years and being used to things not going as planned, Amelia couldn't help but feel a bit sad.
As she passed Maria's ward, Amber came out.
Amber saw her, smiled, and initiated a conversation. "Dr. Davis, I heard something about Maria's transfer. Should I help persuade Maria's family to transfer to Kasfee General Hospital?"
Amber looked confident as if her words alone would convince Maria's family to transfer her to Kasfee General Hospital for treatment.
Amelia didn't respond and continued walking.
Amber paused, bit her lip, and continued. "I'm not doing this entirely for you. I'm from Kasfee General Hospital, too. I want Maria to receive treatment there. I also hope, Dr. Davis, you can let go of your prejudices against me."
Amelia paused slightly, sneered coldly, and said, "If you want to regain Frederick's attention, don't pretend you're helping me. Don't try to gain favor with me. I don't like you."
Frederick's recent cold attitude toward Amber hadn't escaped Amelia's notice. Amber was just trying to salvage her image in Frederick's eyes.
Amber's intentions were so plainly exposed by Amelia that she felt embarrassed. Amber's hands clenched tightly at her sides.
Amber hated how Amelia seemed indifferent to everything about Frederick!
Everything Amber worked so hard for was something Amelia didn't even care about, making it hard for Amber to let go!
