Chapter 207 Amelia's Charm
"Anna fell asleep inside the Fantasy Fortress today. I couldn't find her, so he came to help me to look for her," Amelia explained briefly as she walked toward the house.
Vincent nodded slightly and seriously said, "You should thank him for that. Only he could pause a meeting and come to help you find the child."
Amelia lightly pursed her red lips, thinking about the day Frederick had been called away by Amber's phone call when she was still in his car.
Amber could do such a thing, too.
Amelia sighed inwardly and did not respond.
Vincent could see some clues from her expression and softly asked, "What's wrong? Has something unpleasant happened between you two again?"
Amelia smiled lightly at the sound and shook her head.
The unpleasantness between her and Frederick would always exist as long as Amber was around.
Vincent sighed lightly when he saw that she was unwilling to speak.
He knew very well what kind of person Amelia was.
Amelia and Vincent entered the house, and Daniel got up from the sofa and grabbed his luggage.
Daniel said, "Vincent, Amelia, I'll head back."
Vincent nodded and didn't ask Daniel to stay for dinner. He smiled and said, "Alright, take care on your way back. When you move, we'll come see your new home."
Daniel nodded slightly, a hint of loss flickering in his eyes, but he still responded, "Okay."
"I'll walk you to the door." Amelia smiled as usual.
Daniel nodded.
As they walked out of the Davis Manor, Daniel hesitated for a moment and finally spoke up, "Amelia, Jesse has been working at the bar for years, so he always deals with complicated people. Don't get too close to him. You didn't know about what happened back then, and it wasn't your fault. You also..."
Amelia lightly pursed her red lips, interrupting Daniel. "Daniel, I know... However, if you hadn't called me that night, I wouldn't have any interaction with Jesse."
Daniel heard her words and hesitated, thinking about the night Amelia went to the bar to pick him up. Jesse and the others had called her with his tacit approval.
He had also wondered if Amelia would go to the bar to pick him up.
After all, they hadn't been back in the country for long, and Amelia had taken care of Frederick when he had gotten drunk a few times.
He wanted to know if he could measure up to Frederick in Amelia's heart.
"Amelia..."
Daniel opened his mouth, hesitated, and stopped.
Amelia smiled lightly. "Jesse was fired because of me, so I am compensating in my way. However, the Gonzalezs were trying to shift all the blame onto Jesse. Do you know that?"
Daniel's expression changed slightly, his tone carrying a hint of seriousness as he said, "At that time, Ruth was worried about being punished by her parents, so she lied. Her parents have always been very strict with her, and her mother is not her biological mother. If she had made a mistake at that time, it would have been difficult for her to survive in the Gonzalez family..."
Daniel looked up at Amelia as he spoke.
Daniel suddenly didn't know how to continue when he saw Amelia looking at him quietly with a hint of incomprehensible confusion in her eyes.
"Amelia, I'm sorry." Daniel sighed heavily, feeling inexplicably flustered.
Amelia remained calm and stated, "Daniel, you haven't done anything you have to apologize for, so you don't need to apologize to me."
In Amelia's mind, Daniel had always been a very upright figure, a humble man.
She just didn't expect that Daniel would have known all the reasons why Jesse had been persuaded to leave. He had also known that Ruth had lied.
She had thought that perhaps Daniel was unaware of Ruth's lie.
However, he had known everything and had taken Ruth's side, sacrificing Jesse's future.
Amelia really wanted to ask Daniel about it. He thought Ruth would have a hard time surviving in the Gonzalez family, but did he ever consider that Jesse, who had been expelled, also had a hard time surviving? However, she was the cause of this, so she had no right to question Daniel.
At the same time, her guilt toward Jesse gradually intensified in her heart.
Daniel fell silent.
Amelia withdrew her gaze from him, looking indifferent. "Daniel, I won't see you off. Take care."
After Amelia finished speaking, she turned and went back into the house.
Daniel stood in the yard of the Davis Manor, watching Amelia as she entered the house, not moving for a long time.
After a while, his phone rang, and Daniel took out his phone to see that it was Ruth. His expression turned sullen as he answered the call. "What's wrong?"
Ruth heard Daniel's extremely displeased tone before she even spoke.
Her expression changed, and she chuckled, saying, "What's bothering you so much?"
Daniel coldly said, "Just say what you have to say."
Ruth was taken aback by his attitude. She took a deep breath and softly said, "The thing I'm about to tell you might also upset you. It's about Amelia."
Daniel frowned when he heard Ruth mention Amelia and felt slightly annoyed. "Get to the point."
Ruth sighed lightly. "Amelia was soliciting business for Jesse last night."
Daniel's expression turned cold as he said, "I know."
Ruth sighed. "I mean that Amelia's relationship with Mr. Hastings seems unusual. As far as I know, Mr. Hastings took her away last night and she stayed at his place until this morning."
Daniel's hand holding the phone tightened slightly as he scolded, "Did you follow her?"
Ruth chuckled and said, "I'm not that shameless! I didn't need to follow her. My friend was playing at the bar last night and saw Mr. Hastings. You know his status in the country now. Everyone wants to have a connection with him. She told me what she saw. So, Amelia is not as innocent as you think."
Daniel snorted, "Don't comment on her affairs in the future."
Ruth fell silent. She continued, "Daniel, I'm doing this for you. I know about your feelings for Amelia. After all, you grew up together, so I can understand you. But if only one person is making an effort in a relationship, it won't succeed. We've been friends for many years. I feel really sorry seeing you like this. Amelia's not interested in you. She..."
Ruth wanted to say that a man at the bar could take Amelia away, indicating that her usual elegance and nobility were just a facade.
She couldn't give up this opportunity to sow discord between Daniel and Amelia.
However, before Ruth could finish, the call was abruptly cut off.
She took the phone away from her ear and saw the ended call. She gritted her teeth tightly, almost wanting to crush them.
What charm did Amelia possess that made Daniel so devoted to her after all these years?
