Chapter 431 Let Shirley Come to Send Charles Off

Rachel frowned and spoke seriously without even glancing at Charles. "Mr. Wright, maybe our energies just click, and you might have gotten the wrong idea. You might be into my novel for now, but once the novelty wears off, things will go back to normal. We can be great partners, but that's it. You're not on my radar for anything more."

Charles listened, still holding her hand tightly, even squeezing it a bit more.

After a few seconds, he asked, "So, Ms. Davis, have you ever felt this novelty toward me?"

Rachel was caught off guard, not expecting that question. She frowned, her expression a mix of surprise and confusion.

Charles waited quietly for her answer.

Rachel knew her face might have already given her away. Charles was sharp and very observant.

She took a deep breath, looked up at him, and admitted, "Yes."

Charles was a tough guy; most people would have caved under his pressure. Rachel managed to stay rational, mostly because of Layla.

Hearing her words, Charles's lips curved into a slight smile, and he let go of her hand.

He chuckled, "The fact that I made you feel something means I'm not completely unattractive to you."

Rachel thought her honesty would satisfy Charles, maybe even make him think she wasn't that hard to get.

But surprisingly, even though he let go of her hand, his gaze became more intense. He murmured, "Thanks for your honesty, Ms. Davis. It gives me more reason to keep trying."

Rachel looked shocked.

Charles didn't say anything more, just smiled and said, "It's getting late, Ms. Davis. You should get some rest. I'll head back to the hotel."

Rachel didn't stop him, just watched him walk to the door. When he opened it, she secretly sighed in relief.

But then, he quickly closed the door again. Rachel's heart skipped a beat, her eyes fixed on him. "Charles..."

Charles raised his hand and made a "shh" gesture, then whispered, "Mr. Kingsley is still outside."

Rachel took a deep breath and frowned.

Charles walked up to her, raised his hand, and smoothed out her frown. He said softly, "Girls shouldn't frown so much; it'll cause wrinkles. I'll leave after he does."

Rachel took a deep breath and replied calmly, "Okay."

Charles smiled slightly.

Rachel pursed her lips, stepped into her bedroom, and closed the door.

Charles stood at the door and heard the sound of the bedroom door locking. He raised an eyebrow, stared at the closed door, rubbed his temples, smiled helplessly, and turned to the guest room.

He lay in the guest room for a long time, staring at his phone. An hour later, he took off his clothes, went into the bathroom to wash up, then wrapped himself in a towel and walked out, opening the door.

Sebastian was still hanging around. Seeing Charles in just a towel, the look in Sebastian's eyes grew heavier. As a guy, he knew exactly what that meant.

"Mr. Kingsley?" Charles greeted, acting all surprised. "What brings you here? Rachel's still in the shower. I just ordered some barbecue. Why don't you join us?"

Sebastian looked at Charles's cheerful face, feeling a knot in his stomach. He shot Charles a heavy look, his eyes filled with reluctance and a touch of sadness.

Charles, still smiling, acted like he didn't notice.

After washing up, Rachel figured Sebastian might have already left. But even if Sebastian had left, Charles wouldn't go before Rachel kicked him out.

Her hair was still a bit damp, but she opened the bedroom door and walked out.

Seeing Charles standing there in just a towel, talking to someone, she frowned slightly. "Who's there?"

Charles heard her and smiled, looking back inside. "It's Mr. Kingsley."

Rachel frowned and walked to the door.

Seeing Rachel come out with her hair still damp, Sebastian took a deep breath, feeling a painful ache in his chest.

If he had any hope left, seeing Rachel like this crushed it completely.

"Mr. Kingsley, do you need something?" Rachel asked calmly, looking at Sebastian like he was just an ordinary acquaintance.

Seeing her cold expression, Sebastian shook his head. "Nothing."

At that moment, his heart felt like it shattered into pieces, impossible to put back together. He turned and leaned against the wall, looking defeated.

"I got the wrong floor," he said softly, trying to hold back a sob.

Rachel just glanced at his back, then turned and went back inside.

Sebastian entered the elevator, never looking back at the hallway.

When the elevator doors closed, he couldn't help but turn his head for one last look, but Charles had already closed the door, leaving him no chance to peek.

Sebastian clutched his chest, squatted down, and pulled at his hair, looking furious.

Back in the room, Rachel glanced at Charles, still in his towel. "Mr. Wright, call your assistant to pick you up."

Charles smiled lightly. "Could you call for me, Ms. Davis? My phone's dead."

Rachel frowned and went to get her phone. She dialed Ian's number, but it just kept ringing with no answer.

She called several times, but no one picked up.

Her face darkened, and she turned to look at Charles, who was leaning against her bedroom door. "Does Ian have another number? This one's not going through."

Charles shook his head. "Ian might be asleep already. How about I just..."

Before he could finish, Rachel cut him off. "I'll have my secretary send you back."

Charles smiled helplessly. "Ms. Davis, you're really generous, having your secretary send me back at this late."

Rachel's eyes cooled slightly. "What, Mr. Wright, are you interested in my secretary too?"

Charles immediately shook his head. "I'm worried your secretary might be interested in me," he said with a confident smirk.

Rachel raised an eyebrow and replied calmly, "My secretary has no interest in you. If you're worried about your reputation, I'll have Shirley come to get you back."
