Chapter 371 No Chance of Winning
Charles tenderly held Rachel's hand, not around her waist but in a protective manner, as they walked side by side into the conference.
Everyone's eyes couldn't help but turn toward them, filled with curiosity and intrigue.
His perfectly timed gesture didn't make Rachel uncomfortable; instead, she felt cared for. Since taking over the Davis Group, Rachel had developed it step by step. Whether it was scheming or negotiating business deals, she had always been hands-on, rarely feeling taken care of like this.
With Frederick's help, Amelia had almost finished negotiating with the representatives from Yaradia. Now that Rachel was present, they could finalize everything.
Rachel approached Amelia, greeted the representatives from Yaradia, and exchanged a light hug with them. After some brief pleasantries, they got straight to business.
Charles also chatted with them for a bit before quickly parting ways with Rachel and the others.
After yesterday's incident, Rachel felt a headache just looking at alcohol today. She held the wine glass between her fingers and took a small sip after clinking glasses with the Yaradia representatives, noting that it tasted like water with no hint of alcohol.
A flash of doubt crossed her eyes, and she became instantly alert. If something like yesterday's incident happened at the conference, it could have a significant impact on the Davis Group.
She gripped the wine glass tightly, sensing a gaze fixed on her. She frowned and followed her instincts to find the source.
Rachel's gaze landed on Charles, who was surrounded by a group of people. As their eyes met, Charles tapped his glass with his elegant fingers and then raised it in a toast toward her.
Rachel paused, then realized this was Charles' arrangement. Her glass contained either alcohol or plain water—it was his way of protecting her.
She returned a faint smile, raised her glass toward Charles, and took a small sip. Charles reciprocated her smile, downing his drink in one go.
Their interaction drew a lot of attention. People had been worried about Charles and Rachel getting involved since the yacht incident. After all, in the Kasfee circle, everyone knew about Rachel's ambition.
Now that Charles was indeed involved with Rachel, people couldn't help but feel apprehensive.
With Rachel and Charles' ambiguous relationship and Frederick's unwavering attention on Amelia, the once-declining Davis Group might truly return to its peak under Rachel's management.
After finishing his drink, Charles waved at Rachel.
Rachel remembered Charles had mentioned introducing her to the Yaradia representatives today. So, under everyone's gaze, she walked over to Charles with a graceful smile.
Everyone watched in astonishment. Rachel had always been known for her aloofness. She was not the type to obediently walk over at someone's beckoning.
Now, with a simple wave from Charles, Rachel walked over to him with a smile, causing everyone around them to speculate about the nature of their relationship.
Could it be that they had moved past the ambiguous stage and started dating? But that seemed too fast.
Sebastian had been watching Charles and Rachel since they entered together.
He wanted to approach Rachel immediately but was stopped by his subordinate. "Mr. Kingsley, for the sake of the current situation and your position, think twice."
The Kingsley Group had finally made it into the conference. If Sebastian approached Rachel, things might spiral out of control.
Sebastian could very well be removed from his managerial position.
Watching Rachel walk over to Charles with a smile, Sebastian's grip on his wine glass tightened, his expression stiff and unpleasant.
Rachel stopped beside Charles. Charles leaned in slightly and whispered something in her ear, causing a hint of surprise and joy to appear on Rachel's face.
Seeing Rachel's expression, Sebastian felt a pang of discomfort.
His assistant noticed and quietly reminded him, "Mr. Kingsley, Mr. Allen is here."
Sebastian took a deep breath, shifted his gaze from Rachel and Charles, composed himself, and smiled at Derek Allen.
He couldn't afford to lose everything he had now. As long as he controlled the Kingsley Group, Rachel would eventually come back to him.
Amelia stood beside Frederick, sipping her fruit wine, and looked curiously at Rachel and Charles. "I feel like my sister and Mr. Wright are much closer than before," she whispered.
As Amelia spoke, Frederick bent down slightly, listening to her.
Amelia knew Rachel well. On the yacht, Charles had tried to get close to Rachel, but she had always kept her distance. Rachel had also told her that Charles was dangerous and should not be approached too closely.
However, this time, Amelia felt the dynamic between them seemed more harmonious. It seemed Rachel had accepted Charles, the dangerous man.
Amelia was puzzled. Rachel wasn't someone who easily opened up.
Frederick also noticed, glancing at Charles and Rachel before looking away.
He wondered what had happened between Charles and Rachel after he took her away last night. If Charles had taken advantage of her, Rachel wouldn't appear as composed as she did now. Charles must have used other means to gain Rachel's favor. By maintaining a gentlemanly image, he had likely lowered Rachel's guard.
Frederick spotted Sebastian in the crowd, talking to Derek.
Sebastian, who had grown up with Frederick, had a hint of hostility in his eyes, occasionally glancing at Charles and Rachel.
Despite saying some harsh words before, Frederick didn't want to see Sebastian in trouble.
However, he hadn't expected Sebastian to stand by while Kenneth schemed against Rachel, resulting in Charles taking her away. As a man, Frederick understood what Charles meant during their phone call last night. Charles had long coveted Rachel and wasn’t about to give Sebastian another shot.
Sebastian had become a target for many elders in the Kingsley family, and throughout the years, he had failed to provide Rachel with any meaningful assistance or support.
Now, Charles had used the opportunity to introduce the Yaradia representatives to Rachel to get closer to her.
In comparison, Sebastian had no chance against Charles.
