Chapter 238 Mr. Hastings Had Already Agreed
Felix watched Amelia's departing figure, his expression filled with helplessness.
He turned to look at Frederick embarrassedly and said, "Ms. Davis seems to be in a bad mood lately."
Frederick's deep blue eyes turned sullen.
Amelia had left the hospital earlier with Patricia, and when Felix called him, she was probably dining with the Rodriguezs.
The Rodriguez family seemed interested in her, and she didn’t seem to mind Billy.
"You interrupted Amelia's good time. How could she be in a good mood?" Frederick snorted coldly and rose from the sofa.
This time, his steps were much steadier as he walked directly into the bedroom and closed the door.
Felix was stunned for a moment. If he hadn't seen Frederick's high temperature earlier, he would have thought he was pretending to be sick just to attract Amelia's attention.
After leaving Frederick's suite, Amelia returned to her floor. She had caught a chill the previous night but had taken medicine in time, so it wasn't a big deal.
However, her body still felt somewhat exhausted.
As she passed by Kimberly's room, she noticed the door was open. A look of curiosity flashed in her eyes, and she walked over and knocked on the door.
"Ms. Harris?" Amelia called softly.
Kimberly slowly emerged from the room, a look of surprise flashing in her eyes when she saw Amelia.
"Why are you back so soon?" Kimberly asked.
At this time, Amelia should still be dining with Patricia.
Amelia smiled faintly and said in a low voice, "I had something come up, so I came back."
Kimberly nodded lightly at the sound, not asking further. "Have you eaten? Let’s go downstairs and grab a bite."
"Sure." Amelia nodded in agreement and supported Kimberly as they headed to the hotel's restaurant.
When they arrived at the restaurant, Amber was also there.
She was sitting with her assistant, discussing some work matters.
Amelia vaguely heard Amber's assistant mention Maria.
As they approached, the assistant stopped talking, and Amber maintained a calm smile, greeting Amelia and Kimberly. "Ms. Harris, Ms. Davis."
Kimberly nodded in response and then entered the innermost part of the restaurant with Amelia.
There weren't many people inside, and Kimberly chose a corner seat, making it convenient for her and Amelia to discuss some work issues.
Amelia further analyzed Maria's condition and discussed the research value of the case when Amber walked over.
Amelia immediately fell silent when she saw Amber.
Amber naturally sat down next to Kimberly and said softly, "I've been so busy with work lately that I haven't had time to visit Maria at the hospital. How is she doing now?"
After all, Amber was Maria's sponsor, and she had also contributed to solving Maria's medical expenses, so Kimberly was polite to her.
"Maria's condition has stabilized quite a bit. The financial issues have been resolved, thanks in part to your help," Kimberly smiled and said.
Amber smiled modestly at Kimberly's praise and said, "I only did what I could. I’m glad to hear she’s doing better."
She stood up slowly, smiled at Amelia, and said softly, "Ms. Harris, I won't disturb you and Ms. Davis any longer."
Amelia did not respond to Amber's words, not even giving her an extra glance.
Amber didn't seem to mind, smiling as she walked away.
After she left, Kimberly resumed her discussion with Amelia on the previous topic.
After the meal, the two had a clearer direction for Maria's treatment plan.
The next day.
Amelia and Kimberly went to the hospital.
Most of the treatment team was already there, with several senior professors engaged in a heated discussion about Maria’s treatment plan.
Amelia, along with a few professors' assistants, went to the examination room to check Maria's latest test results.
Outside the examination room.
Maria's mother and grandparents were waiting outside for Maria.
Maria's mother, Sandra, saw Amelia and greeted her. "Dr. Davis."
Amelia nodded slightly and glanced around at Sandra, not seeing Rodolfo.
She recalled the phone call Rodolfo had in the restroom yesterday. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and she asked, "Did Mr. Diaz go to work again?"
Sandra nodded. "Yes. Even though Maria received donations, Rodolfo said he couldn’t leave his job, so he went to work."
Amelia frowned slightly and remarked, "Didn't Ms. Harris tell Rodolfo yesterday? There's a seminar on Maria's treatment plan today, and we hoped both of her parents could be present."
Sandra looked a bit troubled and said softly, "Rodolfo said that I could make all the decisions regarding Maria."
Amelia fell silent.
Maria's grandmother stepped forward and quickly said, "Sandra has always been in charge of Maria's matters, and my husband will be here soon. Dr. Davis, you don't need to worry."
Amelia finally nodded and walked into the examination room.
Inside the examination room.
Maria lay obediently on the hospital bed. Due to the ongoing treatment, her hair had started to fall out.
At her age, girls loved to look pretty. Amelia had seen Maria secretly wiping her tears when she left work yesterday, so she brought a wig for her today.
While the other assistants reviewed test reports, Amelia approached Maria, took the wig out of her pocket, adjusted it, and placed it on her head.
When Maria felt the wig on her head, she quickly said, "Thank you, Dr. Davis."
Her voice was very soft, with a hint of caution.
Amelia bent down to adjust the wig properly and smiled gently. "You're welcome."
She gently lifted Maria into a wheelchair and pushed her out of the examination room.
Sandra took over the wheelchair and apologized to Amelia. "Thank you, Dr. Davis."
"It's no problem," Amelia replied calmly. She was about to turn back into the examination room when Maria's small hand grabbed her white coat.
Maria asked softly, "Dr. Davis, will I die?"
During this time, many people donated to Maria, and even more came to see her.
Maria, who had never received so much attention, couldn't help but have some wild thoughts.
Amelia paused, not knowing how to answer her question for a moment.
Maria's condition had too many uncertainties.
However, at this moment, Amelia's silence would also harm Maria. So she bent down, gently rubbed Maria's head, and comforted her. "No."
Her voice was gentle, a stark contrast to her usual serious demeanor.
Sandra looked at Amelia gratefully, her eyes slightly red, choked up for a moment.
Amelia felt a heaviness in her heart. After they left the examination room, Amelia called Anderson. "Anderson, could you please start arranging the procurement? I'll transfer the money to the hospital's account."
Maria's treatment really couldn't be delayed any longer.
To her surprise, Anderson replied, "Mr. Hastings has already agreed to the procurement of medical equipment. Didn't you know that?"
Amelia was stunned for a few seconds.
She really didn't know.
