Chapter 241: Three Years Ago, She Lost Completely
After Work.
Amelia walked out of the hospital alone.
Kimberly ran into an old classmate today, so they went to a reunion.
Just as Amelia stepped out of the hospital, a familiar black business car stopped in front of her.
The rear window rolled down, revealing Frederick's expressionless and handsome face.
"Get in." His tone was low.
Behind Frederick's car, a silver sports car also came to a steady stop.
When they arrived earlier, they saw Billy's car.
Frederick, of course, knew Billy was there to pick up Amelia.
Seeing Amelia about to look over, he decisively reached out and opened the car door, uttering, "Business."
Amelia, who was in a bad mood today, was reminded of the medical equipment issue.
Maria's family refused to let Maria go to Kasfee General Hospital for treatment, which meant a loss for Kasfee General Hospital's procurement this time.
Amelia indeed needed to explain this matter to Frederick.
She took a deep breath and bent down to get into the car.
Just as she got in, the sports car behind honked.
Billy wanted to remind Amelia to look back, but she directly bent down and got into Frederick's car.
He adjusted his glasses, and the competitive glint in his eyes grew stronger.
As Amelia entered the back seat, Frederick didn't move to the side. When she sat down, her arm was pressed tightly against his.
Amelia wanted to remind Frederick to move over softly, but as soon as she looked up at him, she saw his serious expression.
Amelia pursed her lips and shifted the conversation to business.
She said briefly, "The medical equipment issue was my mistake. I'll take full responsibility for the loss this time."
"Did I say I wanted you to pay?" Frederick asked.
When Frederick spoke, his eyes slightly lifted, and his long, thick eyelashes were the kind that would make any woman jealous.
His eyes carried a casual laziness.
As the car started, his demeanor seemed to relax, too. He leaned slightly against the seat.
Seeing his relaxed state, her heart skipped a beat. Amelia quickly looked away.
She continued, "Kimberly and I plan to return to Kasfee General Hospital next week. During this time, I'll do my best to persuade Maria's family to let her go to Kasfee General Hospital for treatment."
Frederick replied, "Okay," then added indifferently, "I'm going back to Kasfee General Hospital tonight."
Hearing this, Amelia withdrew her gaze from the window and looked at him.
As soon as she turned her head, her eyes met his deep blue ones.
Their eyes locked, and his gaze suddenly darkened, accurately capturing the glimmer in her eyes.
Frederick was stunned for a few seconds, and then the gentleness in his eyes spread to the corners.
He asked softly, "Reluctant to see me go back first?"
Amelia's heart raced. Having Frederick around indeed made her feel at ease.
She pursed her lips and lightly shook her head.
"No." She lowered her eyes slightly and softly added, "Take care of yourself during this time when I'm not in Kasfee General Hospital."
"After all, I'm your attending physician. If anything happens to you, I can't bear the responsibility," Amelia added.
His eyes dimmed slightly. He replied, "I'm not as weak as you think."
Amelia pursed her lips, asking, "Then how did you get a fever yesterday?"
Frederick remained silent.
Seeing his silence, she curled her lips into a slight smile.
Frederick was momentarily dazed when he saw her smile. After a while, he spoke in a low tone, "Let's have dinner together."
Amelia was stunned for a few seconds, then agreed, "Okay."
Felix, seeing Amelia agree, secretly breathed a sigh of relief. It was rare for them to be so harmonious today. He quickly said, "I've already booked a restaurant."
Frederick nodded slightly.
When they arrived at the restaurant and took their seats, she realized that Felix had booked a lover-themed' restaurant.
Most of the diners were young couples.
As Frederick and Amelia walked into the restaurant, almost everyone turned their gaze toward them.
Recognizing Frederick, many wanted to take out their phones to snap pictures, but Felix blocked them all.
He escorted Amelia and Frederick to a private room on the second floor, then found an excuse to leave, giving them some alone time.
Amelia barely spoke during the meal.
Frederick, watching her quiet demeanor, couldn't help but recall when they first got married. Whenever he stayed at Spring Villa for a meal, Amelia would eagerly chat with him.
Back then, she was always trying hard to find topics to talk about.
Remembering her clumsy yet earnest attempts to chat, he felt a pang in his heart and took the initiative to speak. "How's the food?"
Amelia nodded lightly. "Not bad."
Then she added, "But the seasoning seems a bit heavy. I still prefer Vincent..."
She paused, suddenly remembering that he didn't like talking too much during meals. Her desire to share diminished and her tone softened.
She quickly summarized, "Vincent's cooking is better."
She finished speaking and continued eating.
Frederick's eyes narrowed slightly. He nodded in agreement. "Vincent's culinary skills are indeed good."
Amelia responded faintly, "Yes."
Seeing her current state, Frederick felt a lump in his throat.
After that, Amelia spoke very little.
He felt heavy-hearted. Finally, unable to hold back, he spoke.
"Amelia, three years ago, if I hadn't asked for a divorce, would we still have ended up divorced?"
Her beautiful eyes stared at her plate for a while before she looked up at Frederick, her gaze calm and steady.
"No." Her voice was solemn as if she had seriously considered his question before answering.
Her simple response shook Frederick.
Amelia had only given their marriage three years.
During those three years, her emotions were entirely influenced by him.
In those three years, Amelia hadn't made him fall in love with her, proving that she was unappealing to him.
Three years ago, she lost completely.
Now, she needed to regain some advantages. The pain shouldn't be hers alone.
Amelia said calmly, "Three years ago, if you hadn't asked for a divorce, I would have."
Her voice was light and calm, her beautiful eyes unusually composed.
Frederick remained silent, not saying another word.
Amelia put down her knife and fork, looked up at him, and saw his melancholic expression. She pursed her lips.
She wasn't a fool and could sense his regret and interest in her.
Their three-year marriage had left Amelia feeling suffocated and in pain.
She was no longer the girl from six years ago who didn't want any regrets and would seize any chance to get close to him.
