Chapter 294 The Softness He Had Been Longing For

Frederick gave a slight nod. "Sure."

Rachel smiled as she took a bite of her steak. "I'll head to the Hastings Group this afternoon to sign the contract."

Frederick nodded again. "Around three o'clock."

He was worried that if Rachel went too early, it might stir up trouble with Amelia.

Rachel nodded. "Got it."

Just as Rachel expected, Frederick agreed without much fuss.

Amelia didn't get the details of their project, but hearing Frederick agree to Rachel's request made her look up at him.

If it was a big deal, even thirty percent would be a lot of money.

Frederick was a businessman, and Amelia found it hard to believe he'd give up profits so easily.

Frederick noticed Amelia's gaze and looked at her gently. "Don't you like broccoli? Give it to me."

Amelia's original plate didn't have any broccoli, just tomatoes.

Frederick had noticed earlier that everyone had broccoli except Amelia, so he figured she didn't like it.

Amelia hesitated but eventually forked the broccoli from her plate to his.

Anna didn't like broccoli either, but with fewer veggie options today, Susan still put a piece on her plate.

Seeing Frederick ask Amelia for her broccoli, Anna also forked hers over, looking very generous.

"All of mine for you, Uncle Frederick."

Frederick smiled. "Thanks, Anna."

Anna waved it off. "No problem."

Everyone saw through Anna's little act and chuckled at her generous display.

The dining room was filled with laughter.

After breakfast, Amelia remembered her phone was still upstairs.

She went to get it and saw that Frederick had withdrawn many messages from last night, leaving just one.

Frederick: [Get some rest, good night.]

She bit her lip, sighed, put away her phone, and went downstairs.

Rachel had already left while Amelia was upstairs.

Only Frederick was waiting for her downstairs.

As Amelia passed by Frederick, she said softly, "Let's go."

In agreement, Frederick nodded, trailing behind her as they made their way. Vincent, holding Anna close, bid them farewell as they headed to the yard.

Amelia opened the passenger door, sliding into the driver's seat as Frederick crouched to enter, deftly securing his seatbelt with his left hand.

Initially, Amelia intended to assist with the seatbelt, but seeing it already fastened, she stole a few glances at Frederick, contemplating her gesture.

Observing her gesture, Frederick momentarily halted, regretting not letting her help with the seatbelt.

Noting the seatbelt in place, Amelia shifted focus, starting the car as she casually inquired, "How's your hand feeling today?"

"It's still bothering me," Frederick responded, his bandaged hand showing faint bloodstains.

Concern lit Amelia's features. "Did you re-injure it last night?"

"I just had a shower," Frederick admitted.

Amelia's brow furrowed as she grasped Frederick's right hand to assess it. "Try to limit showers while it heals. If necessary, use a towel instead."

After a brief silence, Frederick met her gaze. "You already find me off-putting like this. If I skip showers, will it worsen? Plus, I've got no one to help with towel wringing."

Startled, Amelia mulled over his words. When had she ever harbored such feelings toward him?

"Can't Felix help you with that?" she asked.

Frederick frowned, clearly uncomfortable. "That would make me uncomfortable."

Amelia paused, imagining the scene, and realized it would indeed be awkward.

She sighed. "I'll think of a solution for you."

Frederick's eyes twinkled with a hint of a smile. "Okay."

They rarely had such light-hearted conversations.

At the General Hospital, Amelia parked the car and got out. She walked to the passenger side to open the door for Frederick, only to see Selah and Daniel getting out of another car.

Noticing Ruth accompanying Daniel, a flash of confusion crossed Amelia's eyes.

Frederick got out and stood beside Amelia. Seeing her gaze fixed in another direction, he followed her line of sight.

When he saw Ruth holding Daniel's arm, Frederick's expression remained unchanged, but he looked down at Amelia.

Amelia glanced at them and then looked away. Seeing Frederick's curious look, she said softly, "I'll re-bandage your hand when we get to the office."

Frederick nodded.

Ruth was the first to see Amelia and quickly tugged on Daniel's arm, smiling. "Daniel, Amelia is over there."

Daniel  and Selah also looked over at Amelia.

Seeing Amelia with Frederick, Selah took a deep breath and gave Ruth a stern look. "You'd better keep your mouth shut and not say anything you shouldn't."

Ruth nodded sullenly, her eyes filled with jealousy as she looked at Amelia.

When she saw that the man beside Amelia was Frederick, Ruth's jealousy grew even more intense.

She bit her lip hard, her eyes full of resentment.

Ruth couldn't understand what value a divorced woman with a child like Amelia had to attract them!

Seeing Amelia talking to Frederick and not looking their way, Selah pulled Ruth and quickened her pace into the elevator.

Although Ruth was unhappy, she had no choice but to follow.

As the elevator doors closed, Selah breathed a sigh of relief. Daniel had already lost to Frederick in front of Amelia, and Selah didn't want to lose face even more in front of Frederick.

Amelia and Frederick took another elevator back to the office.

As she carefully removed the bandage from Frederick's hand, some of it stuck to his wound, causing some pain when pulled.

Amelia was very careful throughout, and Frederick endured the pain, watching her face up close and smelling her faint fragrance. His deep blue eyes gradually grew warmer.

"Amelia," Frederick started, wanting to say he wanted to kiss her but knowing she'd refuse. Instead, he leaned in to kiss her cheek.

He just wanted a light touch. Just a touch.

However, when Amelia heard him speak, she turned to look at him, and his lips brushed against the softness he had been longing for.
