Chapter 459 Such a Big Change

Nancy's eyes flashed with disdain as she declared Amelia wasn't even in her league. She didn't see Amelia as any kind of threat.

Amelia's hand, hanging by her side, tightened into a fist. Just as she was about to say something, the office door swung open, and Frederick walked in.

Frederick stood there, looking at Amelia with a slight frown and a bit of hesitation. He didn't even acknowledge Nancy first. Instead, he asked Amelia, "Amelia, what are you doing here?"

Amelia took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "I need to talk to you about something personal."

Frederick's frown deepened. "Whatever it is, I'll call you after work. I'm busy right now. You should go back."

Amelia felt frustration bubbling up inside her. She clenched her fist tighter, then let it go, locking eyes with Frederick. "You didn't pass the test. You don't need to come to Davis Manor to apologize anymore. I will never give you Anna," she said coldly.

Frederick was taken aback by Amelia's sudden declaration. His face darkened, and he frowned. "Amelia! This isn't the place to talk about this."

Amelia's eyes reddened, but she stood her ground. "Fine, I'll wait until you're done." She got up from the sofa and headed for the door, her shoulder brushing against Frederick's. He tried to stop her, but she shook him off and walked away quickly.

A sudden panic gripped Frederick. He thought Amelia understood his intentions, but her reaction in front of Nancy was unsettling.

He glanced at his hand, which she had shaken off, and frowned deeply.

Nancy, still lounging on the sofa, watched the scene with a smirk. "Mr. Hastings," she purred, "aren't you going to chase after her and explain?"

Frederick resisted the urge to go after Amelia. Seeing Nancy's slightly mocking expression, he walked to his office chair and sat down, speaking calmly. "Ms. Wright, what brings you here today?"

Nancy noticed the slight distance in Frederick's eyes, raised her eyebrows, got up from the sofa, and walked to the chair opposite his desk, sitting down with a smile. "Mr. Hastings, you seem a bit upset. Is it because of Ms. Davis's attitude just now?"

Frederick was silent for a few seconds, rubbed his temples, and then said calmly, "Sorry."

Seeing the complex expression on Frederick's face, Nancy knew he was weighing his options between her and Amelia. After all, any man would carefully consider this situation. If Frederick broke up with Amelia too quickly and chose her, she would start to suspect something was up.

She smiled lightly, her demeanor calm and composed, and said gently, "It's okay. It's normal to have emotions in such situations. I used to think Ms. Davis was sensible and virtuous, but it turns out she has a temper too."

Frederick frowned and said coldly, "Don't mention her."

Nancy got the hint and switched gears. "I came by to talk about that investment Mr. Olson mentioned last time. I've been thinking it over, and the profits look pretty good. If it could be my first project since coming back to Kasfee, I'd be all in. But since I'm new here, I'm not too familiar with the local procedures and I'm worried about any hidden traps."

Frederick's eyes stayed icy as he replied, "If you're interested, why not ask Mr. Olson directly? He's already put money into it."

Nancy pursed her lips, a flicker of helplessness in her eyes. "Mr. Olson's too sly, keeping everything under wraps. I couldn't get any info, so I came to you. In Kasfee, there's nothing you don't know about, right? And how much are you planning to invest in this project? I heard you're pretty keen on it too."

Frederick's expression stayed calm as he looked at Nancy. "You're too modest, Ms. Wright. You even found out my stance on this project. The Hastings Group has hit some bumps recently, and I'm still working on smoothing things out. So I won't be sharing my plans for this project with you."

Nancy raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Mr. Hastings, are you treating me as competition?"

Frederick followed her lead. "Ms. Wright, you're just here to play and make some money, but the Hastings Group is different. We're developing in Kasfee. So I don't really want to share this project with an outsider."

Nancy couldn't help but smile at Frederick's words. "Mr. Hastings, you're quite the businessman. For the sake of profit, you don't even consider personal feelings. Didn't I help you?"

Frederick's eyes stayed calm, with a hint of sarcasm. "Didn't I also help you join the business association? Helping you caused me quite a bit of trouble."

Nancy had heard about Rachel's return and knew she had allied with several groups, seemingly to force Frederick to share the project. Seeing Rachel's reaction, Nancy became even more determined to secure the project, as taking it from Rachel would mean winning their first battle.

She chuckled, "I know what you can do. Rachel Davis is just a small problem for you. I heard the groups she's teamed up with aren't that strong."

As Nancy finished speaking, the receptionist knocked and entered. "Mr. Hastings, Ms. Rachel Davis is here."

Nancy's expression briefly shifted but quickly returned to her composed demeanor.

Rachel, dressed in a sharp black suit, stepped into Frederick's office. Her perfect features, highlighted by her cold eyes, made her seem even more unapproachable.

Her cold gaze scanned the room, resting momentarily on Nancy before turning to Frederick. She mocked, "I've only been away for less than a month, and there's already such a big change?"
