Chapter 470 It Was Just a Joke

Nancy couldn't even bring herself to look at Rachel, and the business partners around started looking pretty uneasy.

Sure, the higher prices were tempting, but Rachel had been a big deal in Kasfee for ages. If Nancy bailed after cashing out, these partners would be left to clean up the mess.

Nancy noticed something different about Amelia and, almost unconsciously, began to scrutinize her. But Amelia didn't back down, still smiling faintly at Nancy.

Layla jumped in, "Amelia, this is just regular business competition. Nancy's not avoiding Rachel out of fear, she's just trying to keep things cool."

Amelia's calm eyes shifted to Layla. "Ms. Murphy, you've been claiming to be my and Rachel's biological mother since you got back to Kasfee, but your actions don't really match up. Do you even deserve that title?"

Layla's breath caught, and she looked furious. Nancy gently squeezed her arm and faced Amelia with a calm expression. "Ms. Davis, I'm not leaving because I'm scared of Rachel. I'm just trying to avoid unnecessary drama. We'll be seeing each other a lot in this city, no need to be enemies. You wouldn't get it, not being in this business world."

Nancy then glanced at Frederick, her tone a bit stiff. "Mr. Hastings, I'll leave this to you. Let's not have this kind of awkward situation next time." She shot a look at Amelia, clearly annoyed.

Frederick said, "I'll have my assistant take you." He looked serious, his eyes on Amelia.

Nancy thought he was mad at Amelia and shook her head. "No need. My mom's driver is outside."

She smiled as she finished, but as soon as she turned around, her calm expression turned dark with displeasure.

Seeing Nancy leave, the other business partners got up to go too.

The door to the private room opened, and before Nancy could step out, she saw Rachel standing there in a sharp black suit.

Rachel's delicate features were calm, and her eyes were cold as she looked at Nancy.

Nancy's expression changed the moment she saw Rachel, almost stopping in her tracks. For some reason, seeing Rachel made her nervous. But she quickly pulled herself together, looked at Rachel, and greeted her. "Good evening, Ms. Rachel Davis. We meet again."

Nancy extended her right hand toward Rachel. Rachel just glanced at it, not even thinking about shaking it. Her eyes were cold. "Leaving already? Trying to avoid me?"

Nancy's face darkened, but she stood her ground as Rachel stepped into the room, her expression unchanging. Nancy gritted her teeth, determined not to be intimidated.

Rachel didn't stop. She kept walking until she was just inches away, forcing Nancy to step aside. Rachel glanced at Nancy, who looked a bit embarrassed and chuckled, "Is that all you've got?"

Nancy took a deep breath, trying to keep her cool.

Layla gently tugged at Nancy, urging her to leave. "Let's go, Nancy."

Nancy wanted to leave too, but now that Rachel was here, if she left, it would look like she was running away.

Rachel walked into the room, looked at the other business partners, and smirked, "Why is everyone leaving as soon as I show up? You guys plotting something against me?"

The room got tense, and the business partners awkwardly chuckled, sinking back into their seats. "Just joking, Ms. Davis. We were just heading to the restroom."

Rachel's lips curled into a sly smile. "Ms. Wright must be quite the charmer, getting everyone to join her for a restroom break."

The business partners caught the hint in Rachel's words, their smiles froze, and they didn't know how to react.

Rachel glanced at Frederick and said warmly, "Mr. Hastings, why didn't you join them?"

Frederick's eyes darkened, and he looked at Rachel with displeasure.

Rachel pretended to realize something. "Oh, right, you have that cleanliness thing."

Frederick's face turned dark. Even though Rachel was acting, her words still stung.

Layla couldn't hold back her anger. "Rachel! That's too much. No matter what, Nancy is your sister. How can you humiliate her like this?"

Rachel chuckled coldly, "My sister? I wouldn't want a sister who tries to seduce her brother-in-law."

Layla's face changed immediately. "Rachel!"

Nancy regained her cold composure. "When did I ever seduce Mr. Hastings? Mr. Hastings, tell her."

Nancy thought that as long as Frederick stood by her side, she had nothing to fear. With Rachel and Amelia causing trouble, Frederick must be really annoyed with them.

Frederick spoke up, "Ms. Rachel Davis, you are both women striving in the business world. It's inappropriate for you to say that."

Amelia coldly laughed and followed up on Frederick's words. "So, Mr. Hastings, are you planning to align yourself with Ms. Wright?"

Frederick was momentarily speechless. In this impromptu drama, Amelia was performing too well, making him uneasy.

"Don't be ridiculous," he said in a deep voice, but his gaze couldn't leave Amelia's face, filled with strong restraint.

Nancy's expression became subtle when she saw Amelia bringing this up. She explained, "It was just a joke. Mr. Hastings didn't take it seriously, but you did? Jealous, perhaps? You..."

Before Nancy could finish her sentence, a glass of wine was thrown in her face. The cold liquid made her shiver, and everyone present was stunned, looking in disbelief at Amelia holding the empty glass.
