Chapter 92 She Apologized, Looking Pitiful
Everyone held their glasses to taste the wine that Patrick personally made. Amelia also received a glass of wine.
When toasting, everyone looked at Amelia. Amber asked curiously, "Ms. Davis, don't you like this wine?"
After Amber said this, Patrick stared at Amelia. Patrick had always been proud that he could make good wine.
In the past, Amelia would definitely have picked up the glass and tasted the wine. However, she was pregnant now. Recently, she had symptoms of a possible miscarriage, so she couldn't drink alcohol.
"It's not that I don't like it, it's because I don't drink," Amelia said.
Patrick nodded and didn't force Amelia to drink. He thought it was normal for Amelia not to drink since she was a doctor.
"In that case, Ms. Davis, please eat more food."
Amelia nodded. "Okay."
Amelia placed the wine glass in front of Frederick and gently said, "Although I can't drink, Frederick can drink this for me."
Hearing Amelia's words, Frederick smiled and looked at her.
Amelia put down the glass and smiled, "You drink it." Her voice was gentle, but she seemed to be commanding Frederick.
Everyone had read the announcement issued by the Davis Group yesterday, so they all knew that Frederick and Amelia had already divorced. Seeing Amelia command Frederick, everyone curiously looked at Frederick and Amelia.
Looking at the glass in front of him, Frederick smiled and raised his glass to drink with Patrick.
"Mr. Lakoff, Amelia and I wish you and Mrs. Lakoff good health," he said.
Patrick nodded and smiled. Both Amelia and Laura picked up their glasses, which were filled with water, and toasted.
Seeing Frederick dote on Amelia like this, the others secretly glanced at Amber.
Amelia took a sip of water and set her glass down. She calmly glanced at Amber. Amber had wanted to frame Amelia, so Amelia deliberately provoked her.
Amber tightly gripped her glass. Noticing Amelia looking at her, Amber gritted her teeth and deliberately acted relaxed.
Amelia stopped looking at Amber and quietly continued eating.
Now that Frederick had started drinking, everyone else began making a toast to him.
Previously, Frederick had never drunk alcohol when he came over here. Even when Patrick asked him to drink, he would make excuses to refuse.
Today, Amelia asked Frederick to drink, so he started drinking.
Drinking was the beginning of expanding one's social network. Therefore, everyone naturally took this opportunity to build a friendship with Frederick.
Frederick was usually good at drinking. However, after drinking a few glasses of wine today, he was slightly intoxicated.
Patrick had always discouraged excessive drinking, so he promptly stopped others from drinking.
After dinner, the ladies present helped clean the dishes.
Amelia hadn't helped much with preparing the feast before, so she also went to the kitchen.
While putting the clean plates in the cupboard, Amelia accidentally bumped into Amber. The plates in Amelia's hands slipped and shattered on the ground. Amber screamed.
Wendy, Amber's classmate, was washing the dishes and saw the mess on the floor. Wendy had always believed that Amber and Frederick were a couple. She thought that if Amelia hadn't ruined Amber and Frederick's relationship, they would have been married by now.
Wendy took a deep breath and mockingly looked at Amelia. "Ms. Davis, you were born into a noble family. You're not suited for this kind of housework. You shouldn't pretend to be kind and wash the dishes with us."
Amelia bent down to clean up the broken plates.
Just as Amelia was about to pick up a larger shard, Amber reached out and grabbed her hand.
Amber's action was sudden, so Amelia instinctively pulled her hand back to protect herself. But her fingers were accidentally scratched by the shard.
Amber paused and reminded Amelia, "Ms. Davis, don't use your hands to pick up the shards like that, they could cut your hand."
Frederick walked out of Patrick's study. Upon hearing the noises from the kitchen, he immediately walked over.
He entered the kitchen and happened to see Amber holding Amelia's hand.
Amelia's fingers were bleeding.
"What are you doing?" Frederick's voice was angry. He glared at Amber.
Amber's expression changed slightly. She hurriedly explained, "Frederick, I was just..."
Before Amber could finish her sentence, Frederick walked over and pulled her away. He bent down to examine Amelia's fingers.
"How did you get hurt?" Frederick frowned and sharply stared at Amber. He blamed her.
Amber took a step back and felt aggrieved. Wendy immediately walked over to support Amber, looking at Amelia.
"Ms. Davis accidentally hurt herself. Why are you blaming Amber?"
Amelia calmly glanced at Frederick and withdrew her hand. "I accidentally hurt my finger. I'm fine."
Patrick came over. Seeing Amelia's injured hand, he immediately took her to the living room to tend to her wound.
Amelia calmly walked out of the kitchen.
Frederick no longer looked at Amber and followed behind Amelia.
Amber suddenly felt desperate. With Wendy's support, she could stand steady.
Amber and Wendy were classmates but also good friends for many years. When Frederick and Amber were dating, Wendy listened to all of Amber's sweet complaints about love. Wendy also knew the efforts Amber had made to be with Frederick.
Wendy saw that Frederick no longer trusted Amber.
Seeing Amelia seemingly framing Amber, Wendy was angry and immediately went out to confront Amelia.
"Ms. Davis, Frederick misunderstood. You should explain it clearly to him."
Laura was disinfecting Amelia's wound. Upon hearing Wendy's words, Laura became serious.
"Wendy, watch your behavior."
Seeing both Laura and Patrick supporting Amelia, Wendy became even angrier.
"Mrs. Lakoff, she did it on purpose! Her wound will heal quickly. She's pretending to be pitiful!"
Amber quickly came out to stop Wendy.
"Wendy, stop. It's just a misunderstanding."
Wendy remained enraged and shouted, "This is not a misunderstanding! She deliberately targeted you. You now have a lot of debt and lost your job because of her."
Frederick furrowed his brows and looked coldly at Wendy. Wendy was shocked by his cruel eyes and dared not speak further.
Amelia frowned and looked up at Wendy. Her bright eyes did not reveal her true emotions. Amelia still appeared gentle.
"It was Frederick who misunderstood her, not me. And Ms. Roberts' debt has nothing to do with me."
Wendy was about to respond, but Amber immediately grabbed her arm. "That's enough."
Amelia smiled and quietly watched Amber. "Ms. Roberts, you rarely have a friend willing to speak up for you. Don't stop her from talking. I want to know why she blames me for these things."
Amber looked embarrassed.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Davis, Wendy doesn't know the truth. She just wanted to help me. I'm sorry for getting you into trouble."
Amber apologized softly. Her eyes turned red, making her look very pitiful.
Sitting on the couch, Amelia gave off the aura of a malicious supporting character who bullies the kind-hearted protagonist in a novel.
