Chapter 97 She Had No Secrets
"How are you feeling?"
Frederick hurriedly approached Amelia, his brows furrowing as he noticed her pale complexion.
Amelia stared blankly at Frederick, her expression momentarily unable to react.
Nicole's assistant nurse came down from upstairs. Seeing Amelia with Frederick, the assistant nurse hurried over and said anxiously, "Ms. Davis, Ms. Adams wants you to go up right away."
Amelia nodded, not asking too many questions, and quickly followed the nurse upstairs.
Frederick also immediately followed.
Nicole was on duty tonight and happened to encounter severe post-operative complications with a patient.
Amelia was skillful at handling such issues. Having an extra person helping would help control the situation.
After Amelia went upstairs, she joined the emergency team.
Frederick waited outside the room the whole time.
It was an hour later when Amelia and Nicole managed to stabilize the situation together. Seeing Amelia's forehead covered in sweat, Nicole told her to go rest first.
Amelia felt exhausted. Hearing that other doctors were on their way, Amelia took off her surgical gown and walked out of the emergency room.
Cold sweat covered Amelia's forehead. As she walked to the door, she saw Frederick still waiting for her, causing her to pause involuntarily.
Seeing Amelia walk out, Frederick walked up to her and supported her. He took out a tissue and wiped away the sweat on her forehead.
Amelia calmed down and silently looked at Frederick in front of her.
"Why are you here?" she asked.
Seeing the distant look in Amelia's bright eyes, Frederick couldn't help but frown.
"Am I not allowed to be here?"
Amelia looked up at him and gently pursed her lips. "That's not what I meant."
Fortunately, Nicole had sent the nurse to find Amelia for assistance, otherwise Amelia wouldn't have known how to lie in front of Frederick.
Amelia took the tissue from Frederick's hand, wiped away the sweat on her forehead, and walked away.
After finishing her follow-up work, Nicole also walked out of the emergency room.
When Frederick saw Nicole, he glanced at Amelia's weak appearance. He said sternly, "Amelia has already resigned, so if there are any future issues at the hospital, you should find other doctors."
Nicole was startled to see Frederick. Hearing his accusation, she could only lower her head guiltily and reassure him.
With a cold expression, Frederick walked out.
Carl was anxiously waiting outside. He had seen Frederick walking into the hospital after parking his car.
He hurriedly called Amelia several times, but she didn't answer.
Carl rushed forward when he saw Amelia coming out. When he noticed Frederick following behind Amelia, Carl immediately stopped what he was about to say.
"Ms. Davis."
Amelia looked indifferent, lightly nodding her head.
"I've taken care of it, so let's go back."
Carl understood the implication from Amelia's words, so he breathed a sigh of relief and quickly went to drive the car.
Frederick grabbed Amelia's hand. Just as he was about to speak, an ambulance suddenly arrived and stopped in front of them.
Amelia stood to the side, watching the ambulance.
Amber was taken down from the ambulance by medical personnel, her forehead covered in blood. In her dazed state, she caught sight of Frederick standing beside her, so she grabbed his arm.
"Frederick." Her voice was soft and fearful.
Frederick's gaze turned cold, and he let go of Amelia's hand, letting it hang down.
Amber held onto Frederick's arm tightly, unwilling to let go.
Frederick's eyes were indifferent as he questioned the medical personnel nearby, "What happened?"
Carl had parked the car to the side, so Amelia didn't even spare a glance at Frederick before getting into the car directly. Carl drove the car away immediately. As they left, Amelia couldn't help but glance outside the window.
Frederick was discussing something with the medical personnel.
After a few seconds, the medical personnel quickly brought the stretcher inside the hospital, and Frederick followed.
Seeing this scene, Amelia's eyes were filled with disappointment. She tamped down her sadness and leaned back in the backseat.
Carl discreetly glanced at the rearview mirror. Seeing Amelia with her eyes closed, leaning against the seat and looking calm, Carl felt relieved.
Meanwhile, at Davis Manor, Vincent had been waiting for Amelia to come back.
Seeing that Amelia had returned safely, he quickly got up from the couch to inquire about the situation.
"Are you alright?"
Amelia nodded. "Yes, I'm fine."
Pausing for a moment, she looked at Vincent and whispered, "Dad, let's leave tomorrow."
Vincent looked puzzled upon hearing that. "We agreed to leave the day after tomorrow, right?"
Amelia pressed her lips together. "I can't wait. I want to get to Fondaniss as soon as possible."
If Amelia stayed in Kasfee, she would be easily influenced by Frederick. She needed to leave as soon as possible. Seeing Amelia insist on doing so, Vincent agreed.
"Okay," he said. "I'll tell Rachel."
Amelia nodded.
Rachel had just left the office. She had planned to go back to her own apartment, but when she received Vincent's phone call, she went to Davis Manor instead. On her way there, Rachel received a call from Jimmy's former boss.
Rachel heard that Jimmy had gotten into a dispute with Amber and hit her on the head with a bottle. Jimmy had been arrested. Upon hearing this news, Rachel couldn't empathize with them because Jimmy was a stranger to her. The argument between him and Amber was just a personal matter, and it didn't affect her at all.
Amelia had originally decided to leave the country the day after tomorrow, but she insisted on leaving tomorrow, which puzzled Rachel. There was only one flight to Fondaniss scheduled for the day Amelia wanted to leave, and the flight time was at ten in the morning.
When Rachel walked into the house, she saw Vincent and Amelia busy packing their things. Susan was doing the same.
"Where's Amelia?" Rachel asked Susan, as she saw Susan bringing the luggage into the living room.
Susan immediately replied, "She's in her room upstairs."
Rachel went upstairs and saw Amelia had already packed her bags. There was a men's watch on her dressing table, probably left there by Frederick. She walked over and picked up the watch to take a look.
Amelia immediately said, "I'll have Carl return it to him tomorrow."
Rachel arched her eyebrows lightly and smiled. "Don't you want to keep it as a memento?"
Amelia frowned. Thinking of Frederick's shocked and worried expression when he saw Amber getting hurt, Amelia suddenly felt discouraged. "No," she said.
Seeing Amelia's current state, Rachel knew that Amelia wanted to leave early because of Frederick.
"What's wrong? Did you two have another fight?"
"No," Amelia restrained her emotions and forced a smile. "We're divorced, so why would it matter if we fought or not?"
Rachel looked at her quietly, pulled out the dressing chair, and sat down. "Jimmy hit Amber on the head with a bottle. You went to the hospital for a check-up today, right? Did you happen to come across them?"
Amelia fell silent. In front of Rachel, her sister who knew her inside out, she felt like she had no secrets at all.
