Chapter 465 Nicole and Jesse Are Getting Married

Jesse noticed Amelia wasn't reaching for the gift box, so he pushed it closer, his voice getting even more humble. "Amelia, this is a gift from us. It's not easy for us to get together, so I hope you can give us your blessing."

Ever since the yacht incident, Amelia hadn't thought much of Jesse. The fact that he and Ruth were still friends after all these years showed they were cut from the same cloth. She used to feel bad about it, but now she saw Jesse was just playing on her sympathy.

Amelia took a deep breath, shifted her gaze from Jesse to Nicole, and spoke in a cooler tone. "Have you really thought this through?"

Nicole was caught off guard and didn't react right away. She sensed Amelia's disapproval of Jesse, which made her a bit unhappy, but she nodded gently. "Yes, I've thought it through."

Amelia looked at Nicole with a hint of helplessness and said softly, "As a friend, I hope you find happiness and I wish you well. If this is what you really want, then congrats to both of you."

Then she asked, confused, "But I remember you saying not long ago that you weren't ready for marriage. Why the sudden change?"

Just a short while ago, Nicole had no plans to get married. Amelia couldn't wrap her head around how she changed her mind so quickly.

Nicole bit her lip, looking a bit embarrassed. She leaned in close and whispered, "I'm pregnant. We're getting married because of the baby. You know how it is, the older we get, the harder it is to have kids. This baby chose me, and I cherish this, so I decided to get married."

Amelia was surprised that Nicole chose to marry Jesse because she was pregnant. As a woman and a mom herself, she could understand Nicole's feelings.

She pushed aside any thoughts of persuasion and smiled slightly. "Since you've thought it through, no matter what you choose, as a friend, I'll definitely give you my blessing."

Nicole's face lit up with a smile. She took the gift box from Jesse and handed it to Amelia. She pouted, "If you don't accept it, I'll be mad when I get home tonight."

Amelia reached out and took the gift box from Nicole. Jesse stood quietly to the side, his expression unchanged, seemingly indifferent to Amelia's attitude toward him.

Amelia spoke softly, "I'll head back to the office now. I haven't been to the hospital for a while, so there's probably a lot of work to catch up on."

Nicole nodded but still linked arms with Amelia and walked into Amelia's office together. Nicole looked back at Jesse, who was still following them. She said, "Jesse, you can go back first. I want to talk to Amelia alone."

Jesse immediately stopped, handed her briefcase to Nicole, and seriously reminded her, "Remember to take your folic acid pills on time. You've been a bit anemic lately, so make sure to eat regularly."

Nicole took it and replied with a smile, "I know. You should go back now. I'll return to my department later."

Jesse nodded and turned to leave. Nicole watched him go, smiled, then turned to Amelia. "Amelia, I need to ask you a favor."

Amelia's expression immediately became a bit more serious. She asked, "What is it?"

Seeing Amelia's serious expression, Nicole was momentarily stunned, then thought of something and smiled. "Don't be so serious. It's not a big deal. We just want to ask Todd to be the best man. You know about Jesse's old friends."

Amelia frowned and said softly, "Todd is your cousin. You should talk to him yourself. It's not convenient for me, especially since Todd and I don't talk much."

Nicole sighed softly and said in a low voice, "Todd might still be mad at me, so he hasn't been answering my calls. I was thinking if you could call him and let him know that you've also forgiven Jesse, maybe he wouldn't be so resistant to Jesse."

Amelia's expression stayed calm. "So he doesn't know about your wedding?"

Nicole sighed, "He knows. I told my aunt, and she informed him, but my aunt said Todd might not be able to come back during that time. He might still be angry about that incident, so he doesn't even want to attend my wedding. I was hoping you could say some good things to Todd in person."

Listening to Nicole, Amelia rubbed her temples and shook her head. "Nicole, I'm sorry, but I can't help you with this. You know I'm not good at these kinds of things. Besides, I've been dealing with a lot lately and really don't have the energy to mediate between you and Todd. You and Todd are cousins; there's nothing you can't overcome."

Seeing the worried look on Amelia's face, Nicole realized her request was a bit out of line.

Moreover, Amelia had been facing many issues recently. Although Nicole wasn't in the business world, she had heard some things. It seemed that Amelia and Frederick wouldn't be getting back together.

Amelia had been having relationship problems, but she and Jesse were now stable and even getting married. She probably felt unbalanced as everything around her progressed while she faced troubles. Naturally, this led to negative feelings, which weren't her fault. Nicole thought, maybe this was just human nature.

She sighed softly. "Then we'll just let things take their course. If Todd doesn't want to come back, there's nothing I can do."

Amelia stayed silent. Seeing this, Nicole wisely decided not to stay in Amelia's office any longer. She said, "I'll head upstairs to my department now. It's been quite busy lately."

Amelia nodded. Nicole noticed her calm demeanor, showing no joy at her friend's upcoming wedding. She paused for a moment.

Amelia was busy with the documents on her desk. Nicole lingered for a few seconds, then turned back to look at her. "Amelia," she called out.

Amelia looked up at Nicole, her eyes showing a hint of confusion. "What's up?"

Nicole initially wanted to tell Amelia that no matter what, Jesse was her chosen husband, and if they wanted to maintain their friendship, she should change her attitude toward Jesse. But considering the issues Amelia had been facing, she couldn't bring herself to say it, so she simply replied, "Nothing."

Amelia nodded slightly and softly reminded her, "Take care."

Nicole responded with a soft "Mm" and walked away.

Jesse hadn't left. When he saw Nicole coming out of Amelia's office, he walked toward her. Nicole was surprised. "I told you to go back first, didn't I?"

Jesse smiled warmly. "I couldn't feel at ease without personally seeing you back to your office."

Nicole's lips curved into a smile, her eyes full of joy, and she said softly, "They say men change a lot before and after marriage. Jesse, you won't be like that, will you?"

Listening to Nicole, Jesse pulled her closer and spoke even more gently than before. "I promise you, the way I treat you now is how I'll always treat you. There will be no change. Amelia might be having a lot of negative emotions because of Mr. Hastings. Honey, don't let her affect you."

Jesse didn't directly suggest that Nicole distance herself from Amelia, but he subtly tested Nicole's attitude.

Nicole was silent for a few seconds, then nodded. "You're right. After all, I'm pregnant now, and my emotions are more volatile, so it's easy to be affected."

Seeing the smile return to Nicole's face, Jesse secretly breathed a sigh of relief. It was clear that Amelia didn't approve of his marriage to Nicole. So Jesse waited at the door, worried she might say something to Nicole.

After all, Amelia was Nicole's good friend, and a good friend's words always had some influence.

He felt relieved that Amelia hadn't said anything unnecessary.
