Chapter 285 Dylan's Decision
Nicole wanted to change the subject but worried Amelia would still be stuck on it.
After a few seconds of silence, she said, "Mr. Hastings and Sebastian are different."
Amelia looked up. "How so?"
Nicole had heard about Rachel and Sebastian's recent drama. Rachel had ended the engagement quickly, leaving Sebastian no chance.
"In the three years you were abroad, Mr. Hastings never took Amber in. If Amber hadn't chased after Frederick, their relationship would've ended long ago," Nicole explained. "Amelia, they broke up six years ago. In a few months, it'll be seven years."
Amelia nodded, a bitter smile on her face. "And it's been three years since I divorced him."
Seeing Amelia's conflicted expression, Nicole patted her shoulder. "He's still Anna's father. Let's wait and see."
Amelia fell into deep thought.
Just as Nicole was about to say more, someone appeared at Amelia's office door.
Amelia looked up to see Dylan standing there, looking troubled.
"We'll talk another day," Amelia said softly to Nicole.
Nicole nodded and left.
Dylan walked in, took out his phone, and handed it to Amelia. It was a message from Ken.
Ken: [Dylan, I'm in your country and want to see you. I'll be in Kasfee on Tuesday evening. Hope you can meet me. I miss you.]
Amelia frowned. The message was sent late last night, and it was clear Dylan had been troubled by it.
"Today is Tuesday," Dylan murmured.
"Do you want to see Ken?" Amelia asked.
Dylan didn't answer right away.
"Dylan, Ken is married," Amelia reminded him.
Dylan kept his head down, silent.
Seeing his state, Amelia took a deep breath. "Dylan, you came to me hoping I'd persuade you not to see Ken."
Dylan bit his lip, hesitated, then said seriously, "But I want to see Ken. Maybe this is our chance to clear things up. We might never see each other again."
Amelia saw the determination in his eyes. If he saw Ken, he might be upset for a few days. If he didn't, he might regret it forever.
She understood his emotional turmoil. She was tangled in similar matters herself.
Taking a deep breath, she said, "I'm afraid if you see him, you won't be able to let go."
When Dylan first came back to the country, he had been a mess, even tried to slit his wrists. Amelia, as his friend, couldn't stand to see him spiral again.
Dylan was quiet for a few seconds, then, as if making a firm decision, he said, "I've made up my mind. I want to see Ken. Consider it the last meeting. After this, I'll let go of this relationship and have no more illusions."
Amelia frowned, took a deep breath, and said, "Dylan, Ken is already married."
Dylan gave a bitter smile. "I know. I won't do anything inappropriate. Just think of it as a final farewell."
With that, Dylan left Amelia's office.
Amelia watched him go, rubbing her temples. After calming down, she threw herself into her work.
After work, Amelia got into the elevator, and her phone chimed. It was a news alert.
"Ken Angouleme and New Wife, Line Made, Spotted on Romantic Getaway!"
Amelia frowned and clicked on the news. The first thing she saw was a photo of Ken and his new wife on the beach, looking happy and in love. Line's eyes showed her affection and dependence on Ken.
Amelia frowned tighter. Ken had come to Kasfee with his new wife but sent a message to meet Dylan. Something felt off. Line's attitude toward Ken didn't seem like a marriage of convenience; they looked genuinely happy.
Amelia exited the news and called Dylan. No answer.
The elevator door opened, and Amelia saw Dylan getting into his car. She rushed over. "Dylan!"
Dylan was about to start the car. Seeing Amelia, he took a deep breath. "Amelia, don't try to persuade me. I've decided to see him."
Amelia quickly showed him the news on her phone. "Dylan, wake up. You two have broken up. He came to Kasfee with his new wife."
Dylan pushed her hand away without looking. "Amelia, don't believe the news. They aren't in love. It's just an arranged marriage with no emotional foundation!"
Seeing Dylan like this, Amelia felt he was delusional. "Dylan, he brought his wife. How could he have time to see you? If you go, you—"
Before she could finish, Dylan started the car. Amelia was caught off guard, stumbled, and almost fell.
Dylan hit the brakes, saw she was okay, then drove off.
Amelia watched his car disappear, standing there in a daze. She was sure meeting Ken would only make Dylan sink deeper. Ken could leave after meeting Dylan, but Dylan couldn't. He had already tried to slit his wrists once. After this brief reunion, the loneliness that would follow might take a long time to get through.
Feeling defeated, Amelia took a deep breath, walked to her car, and got in. She sent Dylan a few messages urging him to be rational, but he didn't reply.
In a corner parking spot, Felix sat in the driver's seat, barely daring to breathe, cautiously glancing at the man in the back seat.
