Chapter 396 Frederick's Sharp Tongue

Selah noticed Daniel's silence, took a deep breath, and felt utterly embarrassed. If only Daniel could say something to refute Frederick, but he couldn't utter a single word and just stood there. She had never endured such humiliation in her life, and now she was suffering all because Daniel had let her down so profoundly.

Annoyed, she dragged Daniel out of the Davis Manor without caring about appearances.

Daniel, unable to save his dignity in front of Frederick, didn't resist as Selah pulled him away.

Once in the car, Selah took a deep breath and glanced at Daniel with dissatisfaction, her eyes filled with anger. "I told you long ago to cut ties with Ruth. Now look at the mess you've made. Are you happy now?" she snapped.

Daniel didn't respond to Selah's words and just looked out the car window.

Seeing Daniel's current state, Selah couldn't help but take a deep breath and look at him disapprovingly.

"I think you've been spending too much time with the Gonzalez family and have been influenced by them," she continued harshly. "How could you even think of asking Amelia for a favor? When Amelia was in Fondaniss, she rejected you more than once, and I advised you to give up on her more than once. Yet today, you said something so audacious. How am I supposed to maintain my cordial relationship with Amelia from now on?"

Selah was very displeased with Daniel. She felt a deep sense of betrayal. Despite Amelia not becoming her daughter-in-law, she'd always treated her like a daughter. Now, thanks to Daniel's actions, the bond between the Davis and Vanderbilt families was at risk of fracturing.

Her mind wandered to Rachel, who was managing the Davis family. Rachel's reputation for being vindictive lingered like a dark cloud. Selah knew the potential ramifications of this fallout.

Selah nagged at Daniel a few more times, but seeing that he still had no intention of speaking, she sneered coldly and then withdrew her gaze, saying nothing more.

Just as Selah and Daniel left, Rue drove up to the Davis Manor.

A black sedan trailed behind her, filled with gifts she had just bought from the mall. The gifts came in various sizes and were beautifully packaged.

She had heard that Amelia had a daughter and didn't know what toys the child liked, so she bought almost all the popular toys for girls.

Rue drove up to the Davis Manor gate and was immediately stopped by the security personnel.

Rue wasn't annoyed at being stopped. She smiled at the security personnel and politely said, "Hello, I'm Rue. I'm here to thank Ms. Amelia Davis for letting me get in the car today."

Today, Rue secured several projects at the exchange meeting. If Amelia hadn't let her get in the car, she wouldn't have been able to leverage Frederick's influence to get into the exchange meeting. Amelia had done her a big favor today.

Frederick was naturally less inclined to be helpful, and no matter how much Rue begged him, he wouldn't have agreed to let her in the car. So Amelia was her benefactor.

After Daniel left, Anna ran downstairs. She walked over to Amelia, took her hand, and asked softly, "Did Uncle Daniel do something wrong?"

Amelia's expression had been very serious earlier, and Anna was a little scared.

Amelia looked at Anna's innocent face, smiled slightly, bent down, and picked her up. She said, gently, "Uncle Daniel didn't do anything wrong, but allowing others to get away with doing something wrong is also a mistake." Amelia spoke seriously, her expression not showing any sadness.

Frederick, observing her expression, thought Daniel's words might have affected her mood, but Amelia remained calm.

He placed a hand on Amelia's shoulder and tapped Anna affectionately on the nose. He said seriously, "So Anna, you must never allow others to do wrong without consequences."

Anna nodded obediently at Frederick's words. "I won't do anything wrong."

Amelia's lips curved slightly, and she kissed Anna on the cheek.

In truth, saying she wasn't sad was a lie. After all, she and Daniel had grown up together and had always gotten along well. She just hadn't expected things to escalate to this point because of Ruth.

When Daniel asked her to return a favor, it was impossible for Amelia not to be shocked.

However, perhaps Daniel had never held a significant place in her heart, or maybe after returning to the country, Daniel quickly joined Ruth's social circle.

That circle was never one that Amelia liked, and perhaps she had already anticipated today's outcome, so while she felt a bit uncomfortable, it wasn't particularly heart-breaking.

As she reflected on these thoughts, a knock on the door pulled her out of her reverie.

A security personnel member hesitated before speaking. "Ms. Davis, Ms. Rue from the Jelena family has brought many gifts to thank you in person. She's waiting outside. Should we let her in?"

With that, the security personnel cautiously watched Amelia's expression. After all, the news of Frederick and Rue's engagement had been widely circulated in Kasfee.

However, Amelia calmly handed Anna to Frederick and nodded. "Let her in."

The security personnel, receiving Amelia's response, quickly had their colleagues invite Rue into the Davis Manor.

Amelia didn't hold much hostility toward Rue. Although she had once considered Rue a rival, Rue clearly didn't see her as a competitor.

In fact, after learning about her relationship with Frederick, Rue had proactively suggested to the Jelena family that they call off the engagement.

The Jelena family, currently in a precarious position in Kasfee, likely wanted to use the marriage with Frederick to elevate their status. Still, Rue had voluntarily given up the engagement. Few heiresses from other wealthy families could be as selfless and considerate as Rue.

Seeing Amelia at the door, Rue quickly walked over with an apologetic smile. "Ms. Davis, thank you for your help today. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to get into the exchange meeting."

She hesitated for a moment before continuing, "I don't know you very well, so I didn't know what you liked. I heard you have a daughter, so I bought some popular toys for children. I hope you don't mind."

Although the security personnel had told Amelia that Rue had brought gifts, she was still slightly surprised to see three staff members behind Rue holding various-sized gift boxes.

"Ms. Jelena, you're too kind. I didn't really help you much. I appreciate the gesture, but I can't accept so many gifts. Please, Ms. Jelena..."

Before Amelia could finish her sentence, Frederick, who was still holding Anna, interrupted. "Bring the gifts inside. I want to see what you've bought for my daughter. If my daughter doesn't like them, you'll have to go back and buy more."

Rue was so infuriated by Frederick's words that she almost wanted to spit blood. Amelia was the only one who could appreciate Frederick's sharp tongue.
