Chapter 142 Were They Kissing?

Mr. Matthews heard the sound and glanced at Amelia. She looked calm and sat quietly next to Dylan.

He immediately nudged Ms. Matthews with his foot, signaling her to ask Dylan any questions privately at home.

Ms. Matthews saw Mr. Matthews' look and nodded, not continuing to ask questions. She politely changed the topic.

After the meal, Dylan offered to take Amelia home.

Ms. Matthews nodded and watched Dylan and Amelia leave.

They watched Dylan and Amelia get into the car, and Ms. Matthews turned to Mr. Matthews. "I have a feeling something's off. Call Mom and ask what Frederick's ex-wife's name is."

Mr. Matthews frowned at her words, a heavy look flashing in his eyes.

When Frederick suddenly entered the private room earlier, he also felt something was off. Now, reminded by Ms. Matthews, his expression changed, and he immediately called Madison.

After Dylan drove out of the restaurant, he finally had a chance to ask the question that had been on his mind throughout the meal. "Are you my cousin's ex-wife?"

Dylan guessed Amelia's identity, but her expression didn't change much. She nodded expressionlessly. "Yes."

Dylan took a deep breath. "So, Anna is also his daughter?"

Amelia nodded lightly and answered expressionlessly, "Yes."

Dylan was stunned for a moment, thinking of the hostile look Frederick had given him earlier. He immediately whispered, "He doesn't seem like he doesn't care about you at all."

Amelia looked straight ahead, a smile tugging at her lips, and said coldly, "If Ken's bride was your cousin, could you not care at all?"

Dylan's expression changed at Amelia's words. "I'd have to kill him."

Amelia's lips curled into a cold smile. "Exactly. So, this has nothing to do with love or not. I'm his ex-wife, and you're his cousin. Any man would mind such a pairing."

Dylan paused, feeling that Amelia's reasoning was off, but couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.

He rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.

However, Frederick divorced Amelia because of his first love, so his hostility toward Dylan might indeed be unrelated to love, as Amelia said.

"Does he still not know that Anna is his daughter?"

Amelia nodded. "Didn't I tell you before? He thinks Anna is my child with someone else. He calls himself Anna's uncle."

Dylan was taken aback. "why is he Anna's uncle?"

Amelia pursed her lips. "Before Frederick and I got married, Brittany recognized me as her granddaughter."

Dylan laughed awkwardly. "You have that kind of relationship."

Amelia nodded.

Dylan saw her calm expression and couldn't help but sigh. He understood Amelia's feelings too well.

Amelia's personality was similar to his. She didn't like to show the pain caused by emotions.

When Dylan and Amelia were in Fondaniss, they were quite close. Both were in the medical field and had a lot to talk about.

In Fondaniss, Dylan often saw Amelia staring at Anna in a daze, her eyes looking through Anna at someone else or observing Anna's resemblance to another person.

"Have you ever thought about telling him about Anna?"

Amelia's eyes were sullen. She sighed lightly, leaning back in the passenger seat, and said softly, "Amber came to me for surgery three years ago. She had uterine problems and didn't take good care of herself. If she got pregnant, it could be dangerous. If I tell him about Anna, it means that if he and Amber get back together, he will fight me for Anna's custody."

She couldn't risk Frederick's uncertain and wavering love.

Dylan listened to Amelia's words and fell silent.

Amelia looked out the window, hiding her melancholy eyes.

Dylan understood her grievances.

"I'm Anna's daddy. I won't let anyone take Anna's custody from you."

Amelia heard this and looked back at Dylan, smiling. "I knew you were a loyal friend!"

Dylan smiled back. "Of course."

They joked to the Davis Manor entrance.

Amelia was about to get out of the car when Dylan's phone rang.

Seeing it was Mr. Matthews calling, he picked it up and looked at Amelia with a resigned expression. "It's over."

Amelia looked at him with some sympathy. Ms. Matthews must have sensed something was wrong and called Madison.

Amelia wasn't surprised by this outcome. Her identity would be discovered sooner or later.

Dylan took a deep breath and answered the call. "Dad, what..."

Before he could finish, Mr. Matthews' angry voice came through the phone. "Get back here immediately."

Dylan immediately replied, "Okay." He hung up the call. Amelia got out of the car and smiled helplessly. "Think about how to explain on your way back."

Dylan shrugged and said calmly, "What else can I say? I'll just admit my sexual orientation is problematic."

He spoke lightly, but his expression showed no relaxation.

After all, their parents' generation wasn't so open-minded. If Dylan confessed everything publicly, his life would be tough for a while.

He had just broken up. If his family didn't understand him, he would surely be in a very depressing state.

Amelia clearly remembered her state when she was divorcing Frederick.

If not for her sister and father's wholehearted support, she might not have made it through.

Amelia looked at Dylan and smiled. "I can always be your shield."

Dylan's expression showed a hint of emotion. "I didn't save you for nothing."

Amelia smiled and hugged Dylan. "We will get through this and not care about their existence."

Dylan agreed softly, his voice choked. Amelia patted his back without speaking until Dylan calmed down.

Dylan steadied himself, got out of the car, and said, "I'll go see Anna."

Amelia nodded. They went inside together. Across from the Davis Manor, Felix sat in the car, watching Amelia hug Dylan for a long time.

They couldn't see what was happening inside from their position, but a simple hug wouldn't take that long. Maybe they even kissed.

Felix felt the car's atmosphere drop. He sat stiffly in the driver's seat, not daring to look at the man in the back.

He knew Frederick's expression must be very grim.
