Chapter 496 Are You Interested in Joining Me?
Amelia was glued to the surveillance footage from Scott's last visit to her office. Her finger hovered over the fast-forward button, but something caught her eye—Scott leaning in toward her, his hand dropping below the desk.
She slowed down the playback, scrutinizing his every move. The camera angle wasn't great, but it was enough to show Scott's subtle actions under the desk when he was teasing her.
Amelia's brows furrowed as she continued to watch, her breath catching slightly.
Since he had already planted a bug in her office, why would he bother to inform her that she was under surveillance?
She took a deep breath and immediately texted Rachel.
After work, Amelia stepped out of the hospital into the crisp evening air. Tina pulled up in a sleek black car, and as the rear window rolled down, Rachel's calm voice beckoned her inside. "Get in."
Amelia slipped into the car and handed over the tiny bug she'd found. Rachel drove them to a tech company, where they handed the device to a technician. After a thorough examination, the technician looked serious.
"This bug has a self-destruct system," he explained. "It's been wiped, and we can't trace it. This is high-end tech, likely used for important surveillance, often in international espionage." Then he asked, his face full of curiosity. "Ms. Amelia Davis, have you encountered anything recently? Why would someone use such technology to eavesdrop on you?"
Amelia's anxiety was palpable. "I don't know who might be behind this."
Rachel glanced at Amelia, noting her carefully composed demeanor, a steady mask hiding her true emotions from the technician. Rachel felt a sense of pride in Amelia's growing sophistication. "Keep investigating," Rachel instructed the team. "Update us with any new information."
The tech team nodded respectfully. "We'll contact you immediately if we find anything."
Rachel and Amelia left the tech company, the bug remaining with the technicians. In the car, Amelia was visibly tense, her hands wringing in her lap, cautious of any potential eavesdroppers.
Rachel noticed and reassured her. "Speak your mind. If they're monitoring us, they already know we came here today." Besides, she had someone check her car before leaving and found no issues.
Amelia secretly breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said, "I really don't understand Scott's behavior."
Rachel's eyes darkened with thought. "He might be trying to play both sides, earn your trust, and leverage that for his gain."
Besides this, Rachel couldn't think of any other reason. She knew about Scott's frequent visits to General Hospital recently.
General Hospital had beefed up its security team after the last incident, and those new hires were Frederick's people, which Frederick was well aware of.
Amelia's face was serious. "If I don't go tomorrow, they'll definitely get suspicious," she said.
Rachel nodded, her voice firm. "I'll go with you."
Amelia knew Rachel was worried about her and wanted to tag along. But Rachel had been swamped lately, and her presence might raise even more suspicion.
So Amelia said softly, "Rachel, I can handle it on my own. Don't worry, I can take care of myself."
Rachel answered calmly, "I know. But I also want to figure out if Scott is up to something or if he's just doing his own thing."
Amelia nodded, aware of Rachel's suspicion that Scott and Nancy were collaborating.
After all, Scott, having grown up in Kasfee, was familiar with the situation of the Davis family. Additionally, turning the Davis family's servants in a short time was not a difficult task for him.
Seeing Amelia in silence, Rachel added, "Don't tell Scott I'll be there. You go first; I'll follow and catch them off guard."
"Okay," Amelia agreed, feeling a bit more at ease with Rachel's firm strategy.
Rachel's lips curled into a slightly cold smile. She hadn't expected that after all these years, Scott still had a lingering desire for Amelia.
Back then, she had thought that Scott, like Frederick, had fallen for Amber. Unexpectedly, he was just hiding in the shadows, causing trouble.
It was now confirmed that Scott was the one behind the bug at the Davis Manor. He likely remained unaware of their discovery of the bug and Casey's unusual behavior, which all thanks to his arrogance.
Moreover, Scott and Sebastian had always had a good relationship. Rachel's eyes turned cold, wondering what role Sebastian was playing in this situation.
Back at the Davis Manor, Amelia's expression tightened as she noticed Sebastian's car parked outside. She turned to Rachel. "He's here again."
Rachel had already noted the vehicle. She remained calm, her tone low as she exited the car. "You go in. I'll handle this."
Amelia nodded and then headed inside.
Meanwhile, upon spotting Rachel's car, Sebastian stepped out and walked towards her.
"I have a dinner meeting with Mr. Larson regarding the South Suburb project. He's ready to collaborate, and I thought you might want in on the deal," Sebastian proposed, his tone casual but his eyes gleaming with opportunity. "Are you interested in joining me?"
