Chapter 181 Don't Be Trapped in Your Obsessions

Dylan has observed the interaction between Anna and Frederick tonight.

Although Frederick appeared indifferent, with a demeanor that suggested strangers shouldn't talk to him, he had stayed by Anna's side all evening, letting her lead him around in a fatherly manner. He seemed to agree to any request Anna made.

No wonder Anna liked him so much.

After all, neither he nor Daniel had ever spent so much time thinking about Anna.

"It seems like Anna really likes you, Frederick." Dylan squeezed out a smile and looked at Frederick, taking the initiative to start a conversation.

Frederick's eyes were cold. He found Dylan's smile annoying.

He coldly muttered a "thank you" and remained silent.

Dylan awkwardly smiled; he had always been somewhat afraid of Frederick, who didn't seem to like talking much.

Now that he was in the role of Anna's Daddy, he felt nervous and guilty in front of Frederick.

The Davis Manor had never hosted guests before since Anna had been born, so she had been excited all day and hadn’t even taken a nap.

Many guests had already left, and the Davis Manor returned to its usual tranquility.

Anna rubbed her eyes, feeling sleepy.

Frederick, with a hint of a smile in his cold eyes, reached out and held Anna in his arms.

Anna fell asleep in Frederick's arms within a minute.

Nicole was chatting with Amelia and saw Frederick holding Anna, who was already sleeping. She remarked to Amelia in a low voice, "Frederick seems like a good father."

Amelia nodded in agreement. Based on his behavior toward Anna tonight, he did seem like a good father.

Anna relied on him and liked him a lot.

He treated Anna very well.

"We must not let Frederick take custody of Anna," Amelia said.

If Frederick found out Anna was his daughter, he would surely do everything to take custody of her.

Frederick and Amber’s relationship was unclear.

She couldn't be sure Frederick would definitely be a good father, and she wasn't good at gambling either.

Her first major gamble had been marrying Frederick six years ago, and she had lost miserably.

"Anna has fallen asleep," Frederick said.

As Amelia was distracted, Frederick picked Anna up and placed her next to her.

When Amelia heard his voice, she snapped back to reality, reaching out to take Anna from Frederick's arms.

When Frederick handed Anna over to Amelia, his movements were very gentle and careful, treating Anna as if she were his daughter.

A subtle emotion flickered in Amelia's eyes, but she quickly composed herself.

She was polite and said in a gentle tone, "Thank you for tonight."

Frederick looked at her with deep eyes, and after a few seconds, he politely replied, "It's my honor to have Anna's affection."

Amelia fell silent.

Frederick, with a calm expression, then said to Amelia, "Happy birthday."

Amelia forced a smile. "Thank you."

Frederick glanced at her deeply, then turned and bid Vincent farewell. "Vincent, I'm leaving."

Vincent nodded and saw Frederick off from the Davis Manor.

Amelia glanced at his retreating figure, then carried Anna upstairs.

She laid Anna on the bed and noticed the bracelet in Anna's hand, staring at it for a long time.

Susan came over with warm water to wash Anna. When she saw Amelia staring at the bracelet in Anna's hand, she whispered, "Frederick put this on Anna. He was with Anna all night and never left her side. He doesn't know Anna is his daughter, so he probably treats Anna this way because of your relationship. Ms. Davis..."

Amelia took the towel from Susan's hand and carefully wiped Anna's fingers.

When Susan saw Amelia’s silence, she didn't continue speaking. She just sighed lightly and retreated to her room.

The bedroom returned to silence.

After Amelia washed Anna, she changed her into pajamas.

Anna was truly exhausted from the day's events, so she didn't wake Anna up, even while cleaning her.

Amelia felt an unusual heaviness as she looked at Anna’s face and got up to walk to the balcony.

Outside the Davis Manor, Frederick's car was still parked in its place.

From this angle, Amelia could see the faint red dot on the windshield, indicating he was smoking.

Amelia frowned; she had repeatedly told him that smoking was not good for someone with a serious stomach condition, but he seemed to have ignored her warnings.

Amelia dialed Frederick's number with a stern expression on her face.

He answered the call promptly.

Frederick had also noticed Amelia standing on the balcony.

After answering the call, he looked at the woman holding the phone on the balcony, his Adam's apple rolling slightly.

"What's up?" Frederick said.

"Are you smoking?" Amelia asked, her tone cold.

Frederick paused, glanced at the cigarette between his fingers, silently smiled, and then threw it into the ashtray. "I just took a puff."

Amelia's voice was heavy, almost commanding. "You shouldn't smoke at all."

Smoking could irritate the stomach lining and cause the blood vessels in the stomach lining to contract. It would hinder the recovery of Frederick's stomach condition and could also increase the risk of stomach cancer.

Frederick remained silent for a few seconds before softly saying, "Amelia, it looks like you still care about my health. Do you still have feelings for me?"

Amelia's hand that was holding the phone tightened slightly and then relaxed quickly.

She said, "You are my patient. I care about the health of each of my patients."

Frederick fell silent.

Amelia continued, "I don't want my patients' conditions to worsen under my care."

Frederick could sense Amelia's seriousness at that moment. His eyes welled up with tears, and he felt uncomfortable.

He said, "I just felt a bit uncomfortable, so I wanted to smoke to ease it."

No one had ever rejected his gifts since he as a child.

It was just as Sebastian had said. He was indeed feeling uncomfortable.

He could endure the discomfort, but it was also tormenting his sanity.

He felt like he was going crazy.

Amelia furrowed her brows and said in a deep voice, "Frederick Hastings, you need to cooperate with my treatment."

She rarely used his full name like that, and Frederick could feel her seriousness.

He sighed and hoarsely replied, "Okay."

Amelia's expression softened slightly.

"I..." She was about to mention the bracelet, but before she could continue, the phone beeped and then went silent.

Frederick ended the call.

Amelia lowered her gaze slightly, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes, then put away her phone.

Downstairs, Frederick had started the car and left.

Soon, his car disappeared into the night.

Amelia looked at the road shrouded in darkness at the end and smiled bitterly, feeling somewhat fortunate.

It was a good thing she hadn't mentioned the bracelet. Otherwise, what she had said about not being trapped in obsessions in the backyard would have sounded like a joke.
