Chapter 246 He Seemed Threatened

Amelia and Kimberly went to the cafeteria together.

While dining, Amelia saw Rodolfo walking toward the cafeteria.

From a distance, she saw Rodolfo holding a phone, talking with a smile on his face without sign of worry about Maria's illness.

Amelia tightened her grip on her fork.

Kimberly noticed her expression, followed her gaze, and sighed softly.

After entering the cafeteria, Rodolfo took his phone away.

Seeing Kimberly and Amelia, he approached them with an honest look on his face.

He said, "Professor Harris, Dr. Davis, I just discussed with Sandra, and we still want to go to Kasfee General Hospital for treatment."

Kimberly exchanged a glance with Amelia upon hearing this.

Amelia looked up at Rodolfo, her eyes showing a hint of confusion.

They had clearly heard what Rodolfo and Sandra said earlier. 'Has Sandra won in the end?' Amelia pondered.

Seeing both Amelia and Kimberly's eyes on him, Rodolfo rubbed his hands nervously and said hesitantly, "It's just that the treatment costs at Kasfee General Hospital are really high, so I wanted to ask if there are any subsidies available. We need to save wherever we can. I heard that Kasfee General Hospital has treatment quotas every year. Dr. Davis, can you help Maria apply for one?"

Kimberly immediately darkened her face.

Amelia also turned cold.

She asked, "You mean you want Kasfee General Hospital to cover Maria's treatment costs?"

Rodolfo looked humble and replied helplessly, "Our family is really struggling. I can't earn much in a day, and Sandra doesn't have a job."

Amelia cast a cold glance at Rodolfo and said indifferently, "Kasfee General Hospital can treat Maria, but there are conditions."

Rodolfo lit up his eyes, pressing further, "What conditions?"

Amelia looked at Rodolfo and said word by word, "You need to return the donations you received. Kasfee General Hospital only helps children who have never received donations from other social channels."

Rodolfo turned pale and hesitated.

She continued, "Kasfee General Hospital is willing to cover Maria's medical expenses and follow-up treatment. Why are you hesitating, Rodolfo? For the sake of the child, agree to it."

Rodolfo was silent for several seconds, then said, "I need to go back and discuss it with Sandra."

After saying that, he left quickly.

Amelia's eyes were full of disappointment.

Maria was unfortunate to have such a father.

Amelia didn't want to meddle in others' private affairs, but Rodolfo's attitude, coupled with his other hopes outside, made her fear that the money wouldn't be used for Maria's treatment.

Amelia felt it necessary to talk to Sandra, not for anything else, but for Maria's life.

As a mother herself, Amelia couldn't believe that any mother would give up her child's life for money.

After lunch, Amelia didn't choose to return to the temporary restroom but went to Maria's ward instead.

Sandra was taking care of Maria alone.

Maria hadn't been feeling well lately and could hardly eat anything.

When Amelia entered the ward, she saw Sandra feeding Maria. Sandra's eyes were red, clearly from crying earlier.

Seeing this, Amelia felt a bit sad.

She stood at the door of Maria's ward for a long time.

After putting Maria to sleep, Sandra saw Amelia standing at the door and was stunned for a moment, then walked out.

She called Amelia quietly, "Dr. Davis."

There was a hint of guilt in her eyes.

Amelia nodded slightly and asked, "Where is Rodolfo?"

Sandra bit her lip and said, "He went to work."

Amelia remained calm as she quietly observed Sandra's serene face. It was clear that she had great trust in Rodolfo.

Amelia sighed inwardly, "How did your discussion go?"

Sandra was silent for a long time before finally speaking. "Rodolfo and I decided to go for conservative treatment first and not go to Kasfee General Hospital."

Hearing this, Amelia darkened her eyes slightly.

Rodolfo seemed dishonest. He didn't want Sandra and Maria in Tideport City, nor did he want to pay for their treatment.

"Is this your decision or Rodolfo's decision?" Amelia asked calmly.

Sandra hung her head, tears falling from her eyes. She was deeply conflicted.

Amelia took a deep breath. Seeing her current state, she asked seriously, "Do you have a house in Tideport City?"

Sandra shook her head, explaining, "We had one before, but we sold it to pay for Maria's treatment. Now, I spend most of my time in the hospital, and Rodolfo stays in the company's dormitory."

Amelia looked quietly at Sandra and said earnestly.

"Rodolfo's account should have received quite a bit of social donations. Tomorrow is the deadline for paying Maria's treatment fees. Ask him to use that money to pay for Maria's treatment first and then decide whether to take Maria to Kasfee for treatment. A mother is the child's last line of defense. No matter what, you must stand by Maria, right?"

Sandra looked at Amelia with a puzzled expression.

Amelia said no more and turned to leave.

She and Kimberly had two days left before leaving Tideport City.

In these two days, it would depend on how much Sandra could realize.

Amelia thought Sandra might need some time to digest her words, but that very night, at the Tideport City hotel, Sandra called her.

Sandra firmly said, "Dr. Davis, I'm willing to take Maria with you to Kasfee."

Amelia's tone was not overly joyful but very calm.

Amelia asked, "Have you thought it through?"

Sandra's voice was slightly choked, "You're right. A mother is the child's last line of defense."

Amelia understood that Sandra might have realized some things. "Alright."

She took a deep breath. Amelia didn't want to shatter Sandra's idealized view of her marriage.

But if Amelia didn't break this illusion, the losses for Sandra and Maria would be maximized.

Now that Sandra could see clearly, perhaps it wasn't too late for her.

Early the next morning.

Before Amelia and Kimberly went to the hospital, Sandra had already informed the treatment team that she wanted to take Maria to Kasfee General Hospital for treatment.

Jessica and Professor Brown had been trying to persuade Sandra not to go to Kasfee, but she was determined to transfer.

Jessica was resentful. When she saw Amelia arrive at the hospital, she gritted her teeth in anger.

She said angrily, "Dr. Davis, you're really something."

Amelia remained calm as she responded indifferently, "Thank you for the compliment."

Jessica turned blue with anger, and she left Maria's ward in a huff. As Jessica left, she turned to Sandra with a stern look and said, "Maria's condition is special. To transfer her, both parents need to sign. Since Rodolfo isn't here, we can't let Maria leave."

Jessica still wanted to keep Maria in the hospital.

Just as she finished speaking, Felix arrived at the hospital with Rodolfo.

In front of everyone, Rodolfo agreed to let Sandra take Maria to Kasfee for treatment.

As Rodolfo spoke, he could hardly look anyone in the eye, full of cowardice, as if he had been threatened.
