Chapter 188 The Growth of Resentment and Jealousy

Daniel was chatting enthusiastically with his classmates, completely unaware of the subtle tension between Amelia and Jesse.

Amelia found a moment to calm herself in the restroom.

Outside the restroom door, a group of people were gathered around, smoking.

Amelia attracted many gazes with her gentle and dignified appearance as she passed by.

Some even whistled and flirted with Amelia.

"Hey beautiful, are you here alone?"

"Interested in joining us for a drink?"

Amelia remained silent and walked straight into the restroom.

The man nudged his friend with his elbow, joked, and then followed Amelia to the restroom door.

"Hey beautiful, I'll be waiting for you at the door."

Amelia frowned slightly, a hint of disdain in her eyes.

She washed her hands and messaged Rachel to inquire about the situation while Ruth walked in from outside.

Ruth said, "You managed to keep your cool after hearing that Jesse got kicked out of school during his senior year. You're pretty chill, Amelia. Do you think it's normal to ruin someone's life?"

Amelia furrowed her brows slightly, quietly raising her head to look at Ruth in the mirror.

She asked, "What about you? Were you ever expelled?"

Ruth paused. She clearly hadn’t expected Amelia to ask such a question.

She frowned, looking at Amelia, and coldly said, "The Gonzalez family is influential in Kasfee. Rachel didn't dare offend me back then. She only picked on Jesse, who had no one to support him."

Amelia looked at Ruth quietly.

Ruth sighed inwardly, glaring at Amelia. "Amelia, do you know what I dislike about you? You always carry this air of arrogance, wanting others to please you."

She thought about Jesse's expression when he looked at Amelia earlier, feeling quite displeased.

Even though Amelia had ruined Jesse's life, he still appeared to fawn over her.

They had planned to spike Amelia's drink while Daniel was drunk, to scheme against her and make her taste the bitterness of losing her reputation.

But unexpectedly, Jesse had a change of heart.

Amelia frowned and said, "I never wanted you to please me. You’re accustomed to being humble, Ruth. To you, a person who has dignity seems wrong."

Ruth sneered and said, "You can't say that in front of Jesse, can you?"

Amelia fell silent.

Ruth was satisfied with Amelia's reaction. She lit a cigarette, took a harsh drag, then blew the smoke in Amelia's direction.

She said, "I know how you can make it up to Jesse. Do you want to hear it?"

Amelia didn't respond. Her phone beeped with a notification, and she stared at the screen.

Ruth continued, "Jesse has liked you for many years. Due to Daniel's influence, he never dared to pursue you. Now that you're divorced, Jesse won't reject you. If you're with him, you’ll fulfill his pursuit and compensate him for the mistake you made."

Amelia's gaze remained on her phone.

Rachel: [The Gonzalezs said a male classmate plotted against you, hence the drugging. To show sincerity, they would handle the matter and provide a satisfactory outcome for the Davises. What's wrong?]

Amelia quietly pondered over the message for a while.

She recalled that back then, Ruth had invited her to a gathering where she had felt uncomfortable and hadn't wanted to participate, but Ruth had insisted she join in.

She hadn’t known the game rules, so she had been targeted by Ruth and her friends.

Jesse and Daniel had helped her drink a lot, and since she had a low alcohol tolerance, she had gotten drunk and even had an allergic reaction.

Daniel and Jesse had taken her to the hospital.

She had been hospitalized, and Rachel had naturally sought an explanation. The Gonzalez family hadn't dared offend the Davis Manor nor admit Ruth's intention to embarrass Amelia by getting her drunk, so they found a scapegoat.

Amelia raised her head and looked at Ruth, asking, "How did you compensate him?"

Ruth was puzzled. "What?"

Amelia sneered and said, "I mean, did you compensate Jesse using the method you just mentioned?"

Ruth gritted her teeth, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes, then turned angry. "What nonsense
are you saying?"

Amelia calmly wiped her hands with some tissue. "Initially, the Gonzalezs handled this matter and recommended Jesse be fired. Why are you saying Jesse plotted against me, Ruth?"

Ruth blanched.

Amelia frowned at her and said, "What?"

Ruth gritted her teeth, realizing it had been many years since the incident. She wouldn't admit to what she had said back then.

"Amelia, are you out of your mind? Jesse was expelled because you got drunk, had an allergic reaction, and got hospitalized. It was all your fault. You're just trying to defame me and shift the blame onto me."

Amelia looked at Ruth with a faint expression as if she had seen through her.

Ruth had seen Amelia's guilty expression in front of Jesse earlier, so she had come to provoke Amelia again, to deliver another blow.

But unexpectedly, Amelia's attitude had changed very quickly.

The guilt she had shown in front of Jesse earlier was nowhere to be seen. Instead, she had quickly refuted Ruth.

Ruth angrily said, "You're being very arrogant Amelia! Your true colors show when there are no men around. You don't feel guilty about Jesse's expulsion at all. You're just pretending to be ignorant to please Jesse. In fact, you know everything!"

Amelia calmly wiped the water off her hands with a tissue. "Ruth, do you like Daniel or Jesse?"

As Amelia and Ruth interacted more, she recalled many things about Ruth.

She knew Ruth liked Daniel. During their teenage years, no one could hide their feelings perfectly.

So Amelia could sense Ruth's hostility toward her.

Whenever she appeared with Daniel, Ruth's expression was always unpleasant.

She had always treated Daniel like a brother, and Ruth wasn't unattractive, so Amelia would create opportunities for her and Daniel.

Thus, when they had been together, Amelia would try to talk to Jesse, since he was someone she knew, and avoid Daniel.

But when Ruth saw her talking to Jesse, she would be displeased and mock Jesse.

It happened all the time.

Initially, Amelia didn't understand, but looking back now, she understood.

"Do you both like Daniel and think of Jesse as your possession?" Amelia asked.

Ruth was hit where it hurt. She gritted her teeth.

Before Amelia entered high school, her relationship with Jesse and Daniel had been excellent.

Jesse and Daniel were very caring toward her.

But everything changed when Amelia entered their high school.

Daniel's change was understandable, since he had a long history with Amelia. However, she never expected Jesse to change as well.

Every time she caught Jesse stealing glances at her with a look of affection, she couldn't bear it.

Ultimately, jealousy and resentment began to grow uncontrollably.
