Chapter 131 Not Wanting to Continue This Life of Anxiety
Anna had not received a response from Frederick for a long time. She looked at the receiver in front of her round eyes, full of doubt.
"Uncle Frederick isn't speaking."
Her voice was very cute. She looked at Linda at the front desk with a docile gaze.
"Is the receiver broken?"
As she spoke, she handed the receiver to Linda to have it checked.
Linda, looking at Anna's adorable appearance, felt she was too cute. So she quickly took the receiver and Frederick's voice came through.
"I'm listening."
Frederick's voice was deep. Linda immediately handed the receiver back to Anna.
Anna hugged the receiver. "Uncle Frederick!"
Frederick walked toward the airport exit while holding his phone.
Paul immediately followed him out of the airport. He quickly signaled Carl to bring the car over.
"You and your Grandpa wait for me in my office. I'll be back soon."
Listening to the child's lovely voice, Frederick also softened his tone.
Anna obediently nodded. Then she remembered that Frederick couldn't see her response, so she loudly added, "Okay."
After saying that, she handed the receiver to Linda.
Linda took the receiver and placed it to her ear. After hearing Frederick instruct her to bring Anna and Vincent to his office, she promptly responded. When Frederick hung up, Linda quickly led Vincent and Anna to Frederick's office.
Anna sat obediently next to Vincent, waiting for Frederick to return.
Throughout the process, although she was curious and observing Frederick's office, she never touched anything. It wasn't until Frederick returned to the office that she jumped off the couch and happily ran toward Frederick.
"Uncle Frederick!"
Frederick looked at Anna's smiling face as she ran toward him. His previously gloomy mood dissipated.
He bent down and easily lifted Anna.
Vincent stood up from the couch, looking at Frederick. "This morning, she heard from Amelia that you weren't feeling well last night. So she insisted on coming to see you. Rachel asked me to handle some account issues at the Davis Group today, so I brought Anna to see you. Are you okay?"
"I've had this illness for a long time. It's nothing serious." Frederick sat down on the nearby couch with Anna in his arms. Seeing Vincent standing, he immediately invited him to sit.
"Vincent. Let's sit and chat."
Vincent nodded and sat back in his previous position.
He looked at Anna obediently in Frederick's arms, marveling at the power of blood ties.
Although Anna and Frederick had met no more than five times, she naturally had a fondness for him.
Daniel had been with Anna for three years, but he had never seen Anna cling to him as she did to Frederick.
"I heard from Amelia that you had a stomachache last night because you drank too much. A stomach ailment should not be taken lightly. You are young. You should take care of your health and take good care of yourself."
Frederick listened to Vincent's words, nodding slightly without showing any impatience.
"You are right. I will be more careful in the future."
Vincent nodded slightly and continued to chat with Frederick about other topics.
Amelia's call came at that moment.
She thought Vincent would only bring Anna to the Hastings Group in the afternoon. But Vincent had taken Anna out shortly after they left.
Today she had a rare break, and she hadn't taken Anna out to play for a long time.
Frederick was busy with work, so their interaction would likely be brief, as Frederick couldn't spend much time with them.
"Dad, I booked a children's restaurant for lunch. After eating, we'll take Anna to the amusement park."
Amelia rarely had free time. Vincent immediately agreed. "Okay. Send me the address of the restaurant. Anna and I will meet you there later."
Amelia nodded and sent the address to Vincent after the call. Vincent put away his phone.
Paul knocked on Frederick's office door with some documents and then placed them on his desk.
Seeing this, Vincent stood up from the couch and politely said, "We won't disturb your work. Amelia said she wanted to take Anna to the amusement park. So we'll go to the Kangaroo Restaurant to meet her."
As Vincent spoke, he opened his arms toward Anna.
Frederick didn't immediately let go, and Anna obediently sat in Frederick's arms, seeming reluctant to leave.
She was still playing with Frederick's trophy in her hands.
Looking at this, Vincent smiled helplessly.
"Anna, Uncle Frederick needs to work."
Upon hearing Vincent's words, Anna finally reached out her arms to let Vincent pick her up.
As they left, Vincent took Frederick's trophy from Anna's hands and returned it to Frederick.
"We'll leave now. I'll say it again. Even though you're young, take care of your health."
Frederick nodded and escorted Vincent and Anna to the elevator. As the elevator doors closed, Anna waved vigorously at Frederick. Frederick politely raised his hand and waved back at Anna.
As the elevator doors closed, Frederick didn't immediately turn away but stood at the elevator entrance, gazing at the closed doors for a long time.
He felt unsettled in his heart.
Vincent took Anna to the restaurant to meet Amelia.
Amelia had already arrived at the children's restaurant. When she saw Vincent and Anna, she walked over with a smile, hugged Anna, and kissed her.
"I just brought Anna to see him. Why are you so nervous? Are you worried that he'll take her away?"
Listening to Vincent, Amelia pursed her lips and quickly said, "Where did you get that idea? I had already decided to take Anna out to play while she rested."
Anna was attracted by the kangaroo statue at the restaurant's entrance, struggled out of Amelia's arms, and ran over.
Amelia took out her phone to take pictures of Anna.
Vincent, seeing Amelia avoiding him with a guilty look, whispered, "Anna likes him, and he naturally has a fondness for Anna. If you continue to hide it, it's not fair."
Amelia took a few photos of Anna. In response to Vincent's words, she pursed her lips and replied softly, "I never intended to hide her from him. Dad. He doesn't even think Anna is his child."
Amelia bit her lip, watching little Anna interact with the staff dressed as kangaroos at the restaurant's entrance, and said, "When I returned to Kasfee, I did consider giving Anna a complete family. But after returning, I found that I couldn't ignore the feelings of anxiety and indecision from three years ago. I don't want to live that kind of life again."
