Chapter 59 He's Sure He'll Get Her Heart

Frederick stepped into the elevator and caught a glimpse of his reflection in the mirrored walls, straightening his clothes slightly.

The elevator doors opened on the floor where Amelia's department was located.

Passing Amelia's office on the way to Laura's hospital room, he could feel a growing sense of anticipation.

As he approached Amelia's office, he peered inside, but Amelia was nowhere to be seen, causing him to pause momentarily.

Nicole emerged from the neighboring office and noticed Frederick looking toward Amelia's office.

"Mr. Hastings, are you here for Ms. Davis?" Nicole inquired.

Frederick remained silent, giving no response.
Nicole said, "Ms. Davis went to mentor the interns."

Frederick nodded upon hearing this and replied politely, "Thank you."

Nicole, with an indifferent expression, said, "You're welcome."

After speaking, she walked away.

Frederick had been visiting the hospital so frequently lately. It was evident he had ulterior motives.

Amber, not willing to leave things as they were, also returned to the hospital.

As the elevator doors opened, Nicole saw Amber step out.

"Ms. Roberts, you're recovering nicely."

Amber knew about Nicole's close relationship with Amelia, and because of this, she harbored a dislike for Nicole due to Amelia.

Lifting her chin slightly, she said softly, "Maybe the skills of the other doctors are better. That's why I’m feeling much improved not long after being discharged."

Everyone knew that Amelia was Amber's primary doctor.

Amber's words were a clear insinuation of Amelia’s incompetence.

Nicole, as Amelia’s close friend, naturally wouldn’t allow such disrespect towards her.

"Really? I thought Ms. Roberts was feigning illness to garner Mr. Hastings's sympathy before."

"Before, you were too embarrassed to stay in our hospital, opting for a transfer. I thought you had some dignity. And now you’re frequently visiting our hospital again. Could it be you can't see Mr. Hastings unless you come here?"

Nicole's words hit Amber right where it hurt, causing her face to darken.

"Ms. Adams, aren't you afraid I'll file a complaint?" Amber challenged.

Nicole smiled lightly and said, "Do you need me to show you how to file a complaint? The hospital's owner behind the scenes is Mrs. Brittany—you can complain to her."

Amber turned pale, clenched her teeth secretly, and walked past Nicole.

Nicole watched her pass by with a hint of disdain in her eyes.

After Amelia finished with the interns, she returned to her office and happened to see Frederick and Amber coming out of Laura's room.

Amber had a smile on her face, seemingly in a good mood.

Frederick's expression changed slightly when he saw Amelia.

"Have you had lunch?" he asked in a low tone.

Amber, initially taken aback, realized Frederick was addressing Amelia.

She forced a smile, looked at Amelia, and said, "Ms. Davis, do you want to join us for lunch downstairs? I heard there's a..."

Amelia, with a cold look in her eyes, cut Amber off before she could finish.

"No, thanks."

Amber replied awkwardly with a smile, "Alright."
After she finished speaking, she lifted her gaze to look at Frederick.

Frederick's eyes were detached as he moved towards Amelia.

He had only taken a few steps when an intern in a uniform approached Amelia.

"Ms. Davis, I have a few questions I'd like to ask you," the intern said. "Let's head to the cafeteria, and we can talk over a meal, okay?"

Amelia nodded gently in agreement.

"Alright. Just wait a moment while I grab something."

The intern nodded and quietly stood by the door to Amelia's office, waiting for her. Admiration and respect filled his eyes as he looked at Amelia.

Frederick, understanding the meaning of such a gaze from one man to another, had a slight frown on his face as he passed by Amelia's office door.

Amber, upon seeing this, immediately followed him, and they both entered the elevator.

"Frederick, what are we going to eat later?"

Frederick's eyes were cold as he replied, "You go on your own. I have to get back to the office."

Amber stopped in her tracks, her face stiffening.

After Frederick left the hospital, he got straight into his car and drove away.

Amber stood in place, clenching her teeth.

Amelia emerged from her office with her things and happened to see Nicole walking by. "Ms. Adams, would you like to join us in the cafeteria?" she asked.

Nicole glanced at the intern waiting for Amelia at the door, smiled, and said, "I think I'll pass."

Amelia’s gaze also fell on the intern as she softly spoke up. "John has some questions for me. Why don't you come along? After all, once I leave, you'll be the one guiding them."

Understanding Amelia's suggestion, Nicole realized she didn't want to have a meal alone with the intern, especially as Amelia had been the subject of attention lately due to her relationship with Frederick and Brittany. Rumors could indeed be harmful to her reputation.

"Alright, I'll join you guys."

When John heard that Nicole would join them, his expression tensed for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure and walked to the cafeteria alongside Amelia and Nicole.

Throughout their walk to the cafeteria, John didn't bring up any of his questions.

Amelia, with a serene expression, inquired, "John, didn't you say you had questions for me earlier?"

Hearing this, John awkwardly conjured up a question on the spot. It was a question too simple, so both Amelia and Nicole immediately understood the situation.

After lunch, Amelia and Nicole returned to their respective offices.

John added Amelia's personal contact.

Seeing it was him, she accepted the request.

John immediately sent her a message: [Ms. Davis, are you leaving the hospital soon?]

Amelia glanced at the message and sent back a simple "yes."
John sent a series of texts asking about which company Amelia was heading to next.
Amelia took a look, pocketed her phone, and didn't reply.
She made a trip to the restroom and, in the empty corridor, overheard a voice.
"She has some really impressive connections. Don't worry; I'm ninety percent sure I can handle her."
"Of course, I'm that confident. I'll definitely wrap things up with her before she leaves our hospital."
That voice belonged to John.
Amelia arched an eyebrow slightly, her gaze grew colder, and she turned to leave.
When it was time to clock out,
Amelia changed out of her scrubs and walked out of the locker room, only to see John standing by the elevator.
She approached, and a joyful smile spread across John's face.
"Ms. Davis."
With indifferent eyes, Amelia nodded.
"Can I help you with something?"
Her eyes carried a trace of indifference.
John seemed not to comprehend the distance in her gaze.
"Ms. Davis, did you drive here? I can give you a lift."
Amelia glanced at the luxury car key in John's hand and smiled.
"I'm sorry, I'm not comfortable in low-end cars."
John was taken aback.
His car was also a luxury model, and he was the only intern with a car.
