Chapter 147 She Had a Father and a Sister Backing Her Up, So Naturally She Was Different from Ordinary People
Amber was stunned by Frederick's words. Her expression was somewhat stiff, but she quickly regained her composure, gave a faint smile, and said helplessly, "I haven't offended Ms. Davis. She doesn't like me, and I can't help it."
She bent down to look at Frederick's slightly swollen arm and smiled. "It seems that I'm not the only one Ms. Davis doesn't like. Your hand is so swollen like this, Ms. Davis must be retaliating against you."
Frederick's eyes turned sullen slightly. As he glanced at the bruise on the back of his right hand, his face turned cold.
The medical staff recruited by General Hospital were all among Kasfee's finest medical practitioners. Their medical skills were not that poor.
The nurse just now lacked practical experience, probably a new intern. Amelia didn't like him, so she deliberately arranged for a nurse with poor skills to come and give him an injection.
Amber knew that the relationship between her and Frederick could never go back to how it used to be.
Frederick also didn't like to see her, but she couldn't just give up. Even if she couldn't be with Frederick as a couple, she wanted to stay by his side as a friend.
Frederick's future wife could be anyone, but it absolutely couldn't be Amelia. She had already lost to Amelia once, and she didn't want to experience it again.
"Your mental state seems fine. It looks like you don't need anyone to take care of you, so I won't disturb your rest." After saying this, Amber walked toward the door of the ward.
When she reached the door and saw that Frederick didn't respond at all, she felt a bit unhappy and couldn't help but look back.
Frederick was sitting on the bed and looked out the window, showing no intention of responding to her. Amber took a deep breath and swallowed her words of saying goodbye again. She felt like something was blocking her throat and made her very uncomfortable.
She bit her lip lightly and walked out of Frederick's ward with an unpleasant expression. Instead of leaving immediately, she went to the doctor's office and after some inquiries, finally found Amelia's office.
Amelia was sitting in the office reading a book. Her work schedule only included Frederick, and her current task was to treat Frederick.
Amber was still at Frederick's ward, so she had some free time.
Next month, she would publish an academic research paper, so she could take this time to read.
The sunlight shining through the window enveloped Amelia, giving her a gentle and serene aura.
Amber saw this scene as she approached Amelia's office. She frowned slightly, a hint of jealousy flashing in her eyes.
Amber knocked on the door, interrupting the room's tranquility. "Ms. Davis, can I disturb you for a moment?"
Amelia, seeing Amber at the door, glanced at her with a faint expression, closed the book, and gave her a cold look. "Even if I say no, you won't leave."
Amber paused for a moment but quickly resumed her smile. "You're right. Since you are Frederick's attending physician, I have to disturb you."
Amelia's eyes were cold.
Amber pursed her lips and continued, "As long as you are Frederick's attending physician, I will keep bothering you."
Amelia glanced at her and stood up from her seat. "Are you suggesting that the hospital should change Frederick's attending physician?"
Amber smiled lightly. "I didn't say that."
Amelia looked at her smile and raised an eyebrow casually. "Even if you did, it wouldn't matter. In General Hospital, your words don't carry weight."
Amber's smile faded slightly.
Amelia smirked and took a sip from the nearby water cup. When her beautiful eyes glanced at Amber's face, there was a hint of mockery.
"Frederick probably never thought of changing me as his attending physician, so you're so eager to provoke me, wanting me to give up Frederick as a patient on my own," Amelia guessed.
Every cell in Amber's body was provoked by Amelia's gaze, her grip on her handbag unconsciously tightening, then loosening.
"Ms. Davis, you're overthinking it. I have no intention of that at all. Besides, you and Frederick are already divorced, so I don't mind you being Frederick's attending physician. Frederick doesn't replace you because you are just his doctor in his mind. If Frederick replaces you, it will only show that he values your presence, then I should be worried," Amber said, as her smile returned to her face.
Amelia looked at her expressionlessly, offering no response.
Amber's eyes sparkled with a smile. She felt a bit better now.
"I came to ask about Frederick's condition. In the coming days, Frederick will accompany me to the city of S for business negotiation and to relax a bit, so I wanted to know when Frederick might be discharged from the hospital," Amber said.
Amelia sensed a hint of boasting in Amber's words, her expression turning colder. "I can't give you an exact answer to that question," she answered.
Amber bit her lip. "Can Frederick take a day off for that? He can return the next day to continue his hospital stay."
Amelia's eyes chilled. "The hospital is not a place where you get to decide on such matters."
Seeing a hint of anger in Amelia's eyes, Amber smiled. "I overlooked that. Over the years, whenever new business partners invited me, Frederick was usually with me. This time, without Frederick, I feel quite sad."
Before she could finish her sentence, Amelia interrupted her, "That just shows your lack of workability. It's no wonder with the help of Scott and Frederick, you can only be an online personality with a million followers."
Amber's expression was sullen.
Amelia's words struck a nerve. Scott did indeed help her, but for the past three years, Frederick hadn't paid any attention to her, nor had he provided any resources.
Looking at Amber's face turn pale, Amelia smiled gently. "With the help of Scott and Frederick, two influential people, you haven't achieved much. Ms. Roberts, there's nothing for you to boast about in front of me. Why don't you share these two men with someone who truly needs their help? Perhaps Kasfee can cultivate a few more international female superstars."
Amber's smile completely disappeared, her expression turning cold. "I know about your privileged background. With your sister and father's support, you are naturally different from us ordinary people. But..."
Amelia interrupted coldly, "But Ms. Roberts, you still don't understand. What you strive for with all your might is easily within my reach. So all those things you were boasting about in front of me just now, I find them boring, and you've wasted my precious time."
