Chapter 423 As a Mother, You Need to be Smarter

Frederick shot them a frosty look, then yanked Amelia to his side, checking the back of her head.

Seeing the worry in his eyes, Amelia whispered, "I'm good, really."

Frederick took a deep breath, his eyes darkening, and muttered, "You shouldn't have helped them from the start. Everyone's got their own fate."

Sandra heard Frederick's words and felt a chill run down her spine. She quickly grabbed Constance, trying to pull her away.

"Mom, seriously? Can you stop making things worse for me? Just go back to Tideport City!" Sandra snapped, looking a bit uneasy.

Constance refused to budge, and as more people gathered, she started crying even louder.

Amelia frowned slightly, then calmly told Frederick, "Being a doctor is my choice. I can't just watch someone with hope die in front of me."

She took a deep breath, rubbed her temples, and said softly, "Isn't Anna still waiting for you in the car? You should go down quickly, or she'll get worried. Leave this to me; I got it."

Amelia gave Frederick a reassuring look as she spoke.

Frederick took a deep breath and glanced at the security guys, who immediately stood up straight and said seriously, "Mr. Hastings, leave this to us."

Frederick's eyes were cold as he warned in a deep voice, "You already messed up earlier. If anything else happens, you know the consequences."

The security guys' faces immediately turned serious.

With Amelia's repeated assurances that she could handle it, Frederick went downstairs and left.

Constance kept crying uncontrollably despite Sandra's attempts to stop her.

There were already some murmurs among the crowd.

Amelia looked at Constance with a serious expression. Seeing the curious looks from the people around them, she realized that if she didn't clear things up, all sorts of rumors would start flying.

Amelia inhaled, then declared sternly, "Constance, stop crying. Even if you want forgiveness, it shouldn't come from me, but from Maria. Her condition worsened because you secretly gave her some folk remedies. Our hospital has the duty and responsibility to ensure the safety of our patients."

She paused, her tone hardening, "But, you brought the medicine from Tideport City and didn't discuss it with Sandra or our treatment team when you gave Maria medicine privately. I don't get your intentions."

Constance's expression changed as she listened to Amelia. She lowered her head, quickly thinking of a solution.

Elijah saw that the crowd's attitude toward them had changed after hearing Amelia's words and immediately started cursing. His words were harsh and filled with vulgarities.

The crowd looked at Elijah with disdain. After all, those who could afford treatment at General Hospital generally came from well-off families and were well-educated.

Amelia stayed calm and unfazed by Elijah's insults. Just as she was about to speak, Jessica walked out from the end of the hallway, her tone filled with anger and sarcasm. "You people just want Maria's donation money, don't you? Can't you just earn your own money instead of eyeing a child's life-saving funds? Have you no shame?"

Elijah gritted his teeth and yelled, "Some of those money belongs to my son! He sold our house to pay for Maria's treatment. Now we just want that money back. What's wrong with that? I never agreed to treat Maria from the start! What's the point of curing her? She'll just get married and leave us eventually!"

Sandra's face went pale as she listened to Elijah. She looked at him in disbelief, realizing they had these intentions all along. She had thought they genuinely wanted to help, so she trusted them with Maria's care.

If their secret medication hadn't been discovered early, Maria's condition might have become irreversible.

Sandra glared at them angrily and shoved Constance away as she tried to explain. "Get out, all of you. Get out!" she screamed.

For the first time since entering the hospital, Sandra was hysterical and furious.

Elijah looked at Sandra with disdain and said, "We don't need you to tell us to leave. But the money from selling our house ended up in your hands. You need to return it to us."

Sandra trembled with rage at Elijah's words.

Amelia pulled Sandra to her side, shot Elijah a cold look, and said to the security guys, "Take him to the police station and explain the situation. He should be detained for a few days to cool off."

The security guys nodded and started to escort Elijah out. Elijah struggled the whole time.

Constance rushed forward to help, kicking and punching the security guys.

Sandra felt deeply guilty. Last time, Rodolfo had almost stabbed Amelia with a knife, and now Elijah and Constance were causing trouble again, even attacking Amelia with a kettle. If it weren't for her and Maria, Amelia wouldn't be facing these troubles.

Sandra choked up and apologized, "I'm sorry, Dr. Davis, for causing you trouble again. I really apologize."

Amelia saw the guilt in her eyes and replied calmly, "Hire a lawyer to handle all these matters. Get a restraining order for Maria. Don't let them near her again. Maria's condition can't worsen any further."

Sandra nodded solemnly.

Jessica, standing beside Amelia, glanced at Sandra and said seriously, "You're too trusting. After what happened last time, you should have seen what kind of people they are. They didn't come to help when you were in Tideport City, but now that you're in Kasfee, they rushed over. They just want Maria's life-saving money."

Jessica looked at Sandra and cautioned, "Your kid is already in this condition. As a mom, you need to be smarter."

Sandra lowered her head and said, "I'm sorry..." She apologized softly, and Jessica immediately waved her hand and interrupted. "Alright, alright! Go back to check on Maria."

Sandra nodded and turned back to the ward.

Jessica watched her leave, then turned to Amelia and said, "I found some test data. Let's go to your office to study it."

Amelia nodded, looked at Jessica, and softly thanked her. "Thanks."

Jessica, feeling a bit embarrassed, replied calmly, "I just can't stand seeing people from Tideport City being disgraced in Kasfee."

She looked at Amelia with a slightly awkward expression, then pulled her along and urged, "Alright, let's go check the data."

Amelia nodded and walked toward the office.

After they left, Scott emerged from the corner, a slight smirk on his lips and a calculating look in his eyes. He then turned and went back into the elevator.
