Chapter 311 Frederick Actually Isn't That Scary
After leaving the mall, Rachel got a call from work and headed back to the office.
Frederick, despite having a spacious luxury car, insisted on squeezing into Amelia's cramped passenger seat.
As he got in without hesitation, Amelia reminded him to buckle up before driving back to Davis Manor.
On the way, a message from Nicole popped up.
Amelia, having learned her lesson, had bought a phone holder for the car.
At a red light, she glanced at Nicole's message and played the voice note.
"Amelia, Todd bought a yacht, and I'm throwing a birthday party on it tomorrow night. Get everything sorted today and be at the dock by 7:00 PM. We'll set sail at 7:30 PM. I'll introduce you to my boyfriend, and we can hang."
Nicole's excitement was contagious, making Amelia smile as she replied, "Sure, I'll be there on time."
Just as she finished, the light turned green.
She started driving, and Frederick, sitting beside her, asked with a hint of resentment, "Aren't you going to ask if you can bring a plus-one?"
Amelia paused and glanced at him, "Are you volunteering to be the plus-one?"
Frederick raised an eyebrow, calmly replying, "Yes."
Amelia pursed her lips and said softly, "I don't think that's possible. They don't really know you, and your presence might dampen the mood. Besides, you're not my plus-one anymore."
Her last remark hurt Frederick, his eyes showing a hint of sadness.
Frederick muttered, "I'm trying to become your plus-one again."
Amelia's lips curled slightly as she turned to him and said softly, "Mr. Hastings, this level of effort won't cut it."
She then focused back on the road and sped up.
Frederick, looking at her beautiful profile, felt his earlier sadness melt into a smile.
Amelia had subtly loosened up, unlike before when she would outright reject him. He saw an opportunity.
Frederick's lips curved into a smile, but he suppressed his joy and said with a hint of grievance, "You're going to the party tomorrow, and I'll have no one to take care of me."
Amelia couldn't help but glance at him disdainfully. Was he really that pitiful?
For the rest of the drive, Frederick stayed quiet, and Amelia didn't know what to say either.
Back at Davis Manor, Amelia went straight upstairs to find Anna.
Vincent was preparing dinner.
Frederick, despite being unskilled, still went into the kitchen to help.
With his injured right hand, he couldn't do much and ended up causing more trouble than help.
Vincent, not having the heart to scold him, sighed, "Frederick, if you need anything, just let me know. Your hand hasn't healed yet, so rest."
Frederick knew he was causing trouble. After all, he had never done these things before and didn't like the smell of cooking oil.
He smiled awkwardly and said to Vincent, "Since you insist, I won't be polite. Amelia's going to a yacht party tomorrow, and I want to know which dock they're leaving from."
Vincent looked at him and asked, "She is not going to take you?"
Frederick nodded, "No, she won't."
Vincent saw a look of grievance in Frederick's face, as if his daughter had bullied him.
He sighed, "I'll talk to her for you."
Frederick quickly stopped him, "Mr. Davis, don't say anything. It's a friends' gathering, and it wouldn't be appropriate for me to go. But I have my yacht and can follow them."
Vincent understood and said, "Alright."
Frederick stopped trying to help and just handed things over occasionally.
When Amelia came downstairs holding Anna and didn't see Frederick, she glanced out the window and saw his car still parked outside.
Felix had just brought in the shopping bags. Most of the clothes bought today were for Anna.
Amelia usually dressed comfortably and casually for work since she had to wear a doctor's sterile gown over her clothes.
Felix brought the shopping bags into the living room and started showing Anna the dresses they had bought for her.
Felix kept mentioning Frederick, afraid Anna wouldn't know how good he was.
Amelia raised an eyebrow slightly, sitting nearby. Seeing Felix making Anna so happy, she smiled and took out her phone to message Nicole.
Amelia: [I want to bring someone along.]
Nicole quickly replied with a voice message.
Amelia played it and held the phone to her ear without using the speaker.
"Ah, but we're already at capacity. The yacht can only hold twelve people, and I still have some friends I haven't invited yet. Since it's Todd's yacht and he's a celebrity, if we get caught overloading, it could damage his reputation."
After listening to the message, Amelia replied.
Amelia: [It's okay. If there's no room, forget it. He's probably not that interested anyway.]
Nicole caught the key point.
Nicole: [He?]
Nicole: [Are you talking about Mr. Hastings?]
Amelia: [Yes, he was sitting next to me when you sent the message this afternoon, so...]
Nicole quickly replied to Amelia.
Nicole: [No, you can't bring Mr. Hastings. If he comes, the atmosphere will probably become very serious.]
Nicole: [Honestly, I'm a bit scared of Mr. Hastings.]
Nicole added a crying emoji to her message.
Amelia raised an eyebrow slightly and replied.
Amelia: [Okay, I won't bring him.]
After sending the message, Nicole quickly replied again.
Nicole: [If Mr. Hastings finds out I refused to let him come to my birthday party, will he kill me?]
Nicole: [I can already imagine him killing me with just a look the next time he sees me.]
Amelia couldn't help but laugh at this message. To ease Nicole's mind, she quickly replied.
Amelia: [Don't worry, I already told him I didn't want to bring him. I won't sell you out.]
Amelia chuckled softly, put away her phone, and looked at Frederick, who was coming out of the kitchen with a plate of fruit in one hand.
He wasn't really that scary.
