Chapter 25 Next Time I'll Host Personally
Amber smiled slightly, her curiosity piqued. "Is it your boyfriend coming to pick you up?"
Amelia didn't respond but instead walked out of her room.
Frederick watched Amelia's retreating figure with an obscure expression in his eyes.
Amber looked at Frederick with a smile. "Frederick, you and Ms. Davis are pretty much family. Have you ever met Ms. Davis's boyfriend?"
He replied indifferently, "Haven't met him."
After saying that, Frederick glanced at his watch and added, "I have things to do. I'll be going now."
Amber wanted to keep Frederick from leaving. Yet before she could voice her thoughts, he had already stepped out of the room.
His hurried demeanor seemed like he was responding to some urgent matter.
Frustrated, Amber clenched her fist tightly.
After changing out of her work clothes in the storage room, Amelia received a call from Daniel.
"Amelia, I'm stuck in traffic. You might have to wait for me a little."
In a soft voice, Amelia replied, "No worries, I can go see my dad in the meantime."
"Alright. I'll call you when I get there," he said.
"Okay," responded Amelia softly.
After hanging up, she looked down at her wrist and opened her purse to take out a bracelet to wear.
The bracelet was a gift from Vincent for her eighteenth birthday.
Vincent mentioned that the bracelet was her mother Stephanie's favorite piece of jewelry.
Amelia had never met Stephanie, so the bracelet held a special significance for her.
After searching through her bag and the locker, she couldn't find the bracelet.
She distinctly remembered wearing it when she left home that morning.
Amelia immediately stepped out of the storage room and tried to call Frederick.
Frederick was on another call. Amelia frowned, and as she looked up, she spotted a man standing in the elevator, busy on the phone.
The moment the elevator doors closed, Frederick also glanced toward Amelia with an expressionless face.
Amelia hurried over, but the elevator doors had already shut completely.
By the time she got downstairs, Frederick's car had left.
With a sigh of resignation, Amelia headed towards Vincent's hospital room.
Vincent had been recovering well over the past couple of days and had even started moving around out of bed.
Upon seeing Amelia, he smiled. "Did you just get off work?"
As he spoke, Vincent glanced behind Amelia. "Where's Frederick? Wasn't he supposed to pick you up after your shift?"
Amelia paused a moment.
"Did he come by here?"
Susan came into the room with some fruit and heard Amelia's question. She replied with a smile, "Mr. Hastings spent a good while here with Mr. Davis this afternoon. He only went upstairs when it was time for you to get off work."
At that, Amelia raised an eyebrow.
She had assumed Frederick had been with Amber in her hospital room the whole time.
It seemed she had misunderstood his actions.
Susan, who hadn't seen Frederick either, asked, "Did you miss Mr. Hastings? You two didn't accidentally take different paths, did you?"
Faced with Vincent's inquisitive gaze, Amelia explained, "No, he had some business to attend to at the company, so he went to handle that first."
Vincent relaxed slightly after hearing her response.
"To see you and Frederick so stable in your relationship puts my mind at ease."
Vincent had always worried about Amelia since the beginning of her marriage to Frederick. After all these years, their marriage consisted only of a marriage license, and they hadn't even had a formal wedding ceremony.
Vincent knew that Frederick had someone else in his heart, which is why he never wanted to have a wedding with Amelia.
Recently, the Davis Group had faced some troubles, and all the responsibility had fallen on Rachel's shoulders.
Although Frederick hadn't made any substantive moves, he had offered help in indirect ways.
In his heart, Vincent felt quite satisfied with Frederick.
Amelia remained silent and didn’t add anything more.
She knew the true state of her marriage to Frederick.
As Vincent was still in recovery, Amelia didn't want to add to his worries with her relationship issues.
After keeping him company in his hospital room for a while, Daniel's call came through. Amelia answered and then said goodbye to Vincent as she left.
When Susan saw her leaving, she offered to walk her out.
"Susan, just go back and take care of my father. You don't need to walk me out. Thanks for everything," Amelia said.
Susan smiled and exchanged a few pleasantries with Amelia before turning around to head back to the hospital.
After taking a few steps, Susan remembered that Vincent was going to be discharged tomorrow and had planned to invite them all back to the Davis Manor for a meal.
It seemed that Vincent had forgotten to mention this to Amelia.
Susan thought about relaying the message but then saw Daniel pull up in his car in front of Amelia. He got out and opened the car door for her.
He gently wrapped his hand around her waist with the politeness of a gentleman, helping her into the car.
To Susan, the interaction between them looked very intimate.
Amelia had a smile on her face, and Daniel wore a gentle expression.
Their harmonious demeanor reminded Susan of the day when Frederick had come to the hospital to join Vincent for a meal and the strange and awkward atmosphere that had lingered between them.
Susan took a deep breath and speculated boldly, "Could Ms. Davis be having an affair?"
Amelia settled into Daniel's car with a polite smile, "Daniel, I've troubled you again."
Daniel was pleased, "It's no trouble at all. I'm very happy to help.
"It's just that Kenneth can be difficult to deal with. I've tested the waters with his attitude, but he doesn't want to sell that plot of land."
Amelia frowned, "That plot of land was bought by the Davis family from the Worthington family quite some time ago, so Kenneth is just being troublesome on purpose."
"He knows that the Davis family can't afford to waste time on a lawsuit with him, and he's trying to get some benefits out of us."
Daniel spoke in a soothing tone, "It's okay, let's have dinner and talk about it."
"If Kenneth insists on being this way, then we'll have to take legal action."
If it came to a lawsuit, the Davis family wasn't necessarily going to lose.
Amelia nodded lightly. Just then, Daniel's phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at it and saw that it was a call from Kenneth. He slid to answer and switched to speakerphone.
"Mr. Worthington."
The lazy and casual voice of Kenneth came through, "Mr. Vanderbilt, I apologize. I have another engagement tonight and I'm afraid I won't be able to make it."
