Chapter 455 Throw Them Out

Susan frowned and went quiet.

Layla watched Susan closely. Seeing that hint of dissatisfaction, she smirked knowingly, "From what I hear, you got divorced right after you started working for the Davis family. It's been twenty years, and you haven't remarried. Susan, got some hidden agenda?"

Susan's face shifted as Layla spoke, her expression turning serious. She took a deep breath but didn't argue back.

Layla's smile grew, feeling a sense of superiority over Susan. If Vincent had any feelings for Susan, he would've been with her by now. Susan had taken care of Amelia and Rachel all these years, even better than Layla herself.

But Vincent hadn't been with Susan all these years, and he hadn't remarried either. Layla always thought it was because he still had feelings for her.

Even though Vincent was still a bit resistant towards her now, Layla believed that with time, he'd come around. Amelia and Rachel were her daughters, and a chunk of the Davis family's wealth would end up with her.

Seeing Susan stay silent, Layla got bored. She stood up from the sofa and said with a smile, "The Davis Manor still looks the same as when I left."

Just then, Rachel's voice came from outside the door. "Ms. Murphy, you must be getting old and your eyesight failing. The Davis Manor has been renovated countless times and has changed a lot. How can you say such things?"

The Davis Manor was renovated before Amelia's tenth birthday, her wedding, and Anna's visit. Despite its modern design, Layla shamelessly claimed it looked the same, which Rachel found amusing..

Layla's face changed when she heard Rachel's voice. She looked towards the door, her expression stiffening. She had been frequenting the Davis Manor because she knew Rachel was abroad, but she hadn't expected Rachel to return.

She quickly composed herself and forced a kind smile at Rachel, with a hint of flattery. "Rachel, you're back?"

Rachel, holding Anna, walked into the room. Susan immediately went to Rachel's side and took Anna from her arms. "Ms. Anna Davis, shall we go upstairs to play?" she coaxed.

Anna, in Susan's arms, looked curiously at Layla.

Layla had previously investigated Amelia and knew Anna was herchild. But she pretended to know nothing, her expression showing slight surprise as she opened her mouth slightly, "Who's the little girl?"

No one answered her question, and Susan quickly took Anna upstairs. Tina also took the gifts Rachel had brought for Anna upstairs.

Layla's gaze followed them upstairs, then turned to Vincent. "Vincent, is she Rachel's daughter? Or Amelia's?"

Rachel looked at Layla's poor acting and sneered coldly. She walked to the sofa, sat down, and said coldly, "Ms. Murphy, just say it. What do you want from us today?"

Layla's face changed at Rachel's words. She scolded, "Rachel, no matter what, I am your mother. How can you speak to me like that? I just wanted to reconnect with you, so I came to see you."

Rachel sneered. "You want me to hand over some of the Kasfee market to Nancy, right?" During her trip to Yaradia, Rachel hadn't seen Nancy. After some digging, she found out Nancy had gone to Kasfee. As soon as Rachel got off the plane, she got a call from the chamber of commerce saying Frederick had recommended Nancy to the Kasfee chamber of commerce.

Taking advantage of her absence, Nancy tried to grab the market in Kasfee. Rachel thought, 'Does she really think I've been in the business world all these years for nothing? She dares to scheme against me?'

Layla smiled helplessly. "Rachel, you really misunderstood me. I had no such intention. In business, it's survival of the fittest. How can you divide it? If Nancy can take some market share from you, it's because she's capable. If she can't, then she's not. I'm your mother; I won't favor any side."

Layla's words sounded particularly nice, as if she were truly fair and just. Rachel just sneered at her without responding.

Layla felt uneasy under Rachel's gaze. When she left the Davis family, Rachel was already old enough to understand. Since entering the business world, Rachel often appeared in the news, and Layla could get some information even in Yaradia.

So, deep down, Layla always feared Rachel. She was cunning, ruthless, and had a strong will. If emotions couldn't affect her, nothing could. After hearing about how Rachel treated Sebastian, Layla feared her even more. A boyfriend of many years, and she could let go just like that. As an unfit mother, Layla couldn't use blood ties to control Rachel.

Layla sighed helplessly, "Rachel, you just got back and must be tired from the long flight. You probably need to rest. I won't disturb you anymore. I'll come to see you another day."

With that, Layla picked up her handbag and prepared to leave. She had just taken a few steps when Rachel said coldly, "Take the things you brought with you."

Layla's face stiffened, and she quickly said, "These are gifts I bought for you. You..."

Before she could finish, Rachel looked at Tina and instructed, "Throw them out."

Tina nodded and immediately picked up the gift boxes from the table. Layla's face darkened, and she moved her lips but said nothing, leaving quickly.

As she reached the door, she heard Rachel ordering the servants inside. "Take out the sofa she sat on and burn it. Toss anything she used and disinfect the house. We don't want to catch anything."

Layla's steps halted, wanting to turn back and argue with Rachel. But remembering Rachel's cold attitude, she lost her nerve.

Filled with anger, Layla walked out of the Davis Manor. The driver had just opened the car door when Tina threw the gift boxes in front of her, blocking her way.

Layla's face turned livid as she looked at Tina.

Tina, respectful and polite, bent slightly and said calmly, "I'm sorry, Ms. Murphy. I'm just following Ms. Davis's orders."

Layla was so angry at Tina's attitude that her chest heaved.
