Chapter 139 Which Jerk Could Abandon a Woman Like Amelia?
"Amelia, you should have breakfast first."
Susan had already prepared breakfast for Amelia and came over to help her to the dining room.
Perhaps it was because of the medication. Amelia's foot wasn't very painful. She smiled. "I'm fine. It doesn't hurt at all."
Hearing this, Susan said softly, "You've been pampered since you were a child. How could it not hurt?"
Amelia only gained some resilience after choosing to become a doctor.
Seeing the now-strong Amelia, Susan felt heartbroken.
If she hadn't chosen Frederick back then, she would surely be cherished by someone now.
Unfortunately...
Susan sighed softly.
Amelia walked to the dining chair and sat down. Just as she was about to eat, her phone rang.
She glanced at the phone screen and saw that it was a call from Dylan. A look of surprise flashed in her eyes.
Since she returned to the U.S., he rarely contacted her. This was the first time.
He was a schoolmate she met while studying at Harvard.
When she was about to give birth to Anna, her due date came a week early. Although she had worked as an obstetrician, giving birth was a first for her, so she was inevitably nervous.
It was thanks to Dylan's help at that time.
Dylan and his boyfriend found the suffering Amelia and took her to the hospital together.
Amelia didn't even know how to thank him at the time.
He suggested that Anna could be his daughter.
So, from birth, Anna had a pair of dads with no blood relation.
She picked up the phone and put it to her ear.
"Dylan?" Dylan's tone was cheerful and joking. "It's rare that you still remember me."
Hearing this, she raised an eyebrow, a smile tugging at her lips, and said softly, "Of course, I wouldn't dare forget you."
Dylan chuckled and then said, "You wouldn't dare forget me, but you haven't contacted me since you returned to the U.S. I'm so sad."
Amelia raised an eyebrow. "I was just afraid of disturbing you and Ken."
Dylan was silent for a few seconds, then said, "I've returned to the U.S."
Amelia paused.
Dylan had previously said he would stay at Harvard and had already chosen to join Harvard's Royal Hospital.
Many people dream of getting into Harvard's Royal Hospital but never get the chance.
"Why did you suddenly return to the U.S.?"
With such good conditions, Dylan shouldn't have returned.
Moreover, Ken was a Harvard aristocrat, so Dylan wouldn't have to worry about being ostracized at the Royal Hospital.
Dylan sighed and said softly, "Ken and I broke up."
His voice was calm, but Amelia could hear a hint of tears.
Hearing this, Amelia fell silent.
In her memory, Ken and Dylan had a great relationship. Ken didn't care about societal views and always declared Dylan as his boyfriend wherever they went.
Moreover, same-sex marriage was legal in the U.S.
Amelia once thought they would end up together and get married.
She didn't expect them to break up.
"He got engaged to a beautiful heiress of equal status. Their wedding is scheduled for the end of the year, so I returned to the U.S."
Amelia moved her lips, not knowing how to comfort Dylan.
Before she could speak, Dylan said, "You don't need to comfort me. I'm fine. I've known this outcome for a long time. A man of his status and position could never truly break free from family constraints to be with me. As long as I was happy with him, that's enough."
Amelia softly replied, " Okay. So, what are your plans now that you're back?"
Dylan hesitated for a few seconds and said, "I might stay in the U.S. But before that, I need you to do me a favor."
Amelia raised an eyebrow.
"Go ahead."
Dylan smiled helplessly and said, "Somehow, my parents found out about me and Ken. They've been pressuring me to get married."
"You know my orientation. I can't ruin another girl's life, so I want you to pretend to be my girlfriend and meet my parents."
"Can you do that?"
Amelia hesitated for a few seconds before agreeing.
"Okay."
Dylan, having received Amelia's consent, smiled. "All right, I'll make arrangements and notify you of the time. I'll come to pick you up then."
Amelia agreed. "As long as it's on the weekend, it's fine."
Dylan replied softly, "I'll arrange it for the weekend."
"But have you and Anna's dad reconciled?"
Amelia calmly replied, "No."
Dylan said, "That's good. I was worried that if you reconciled, asking you to pretend to be my girlfriend might cause unnecessary misunderstandings."
Amelia laughed. "There won't be any misunderstandings."
"He doesn't even think Anna is his child."
When Amelia said this, she hid the sadness in her tone, speaking very softly.
Dylan paused for a few seconds, then said coldly, "What a jerk. If I ever meet him, I'll scold him for you."
Hearing this, Amelia pursed her lips and smiled. "Okay."
When Amelia was at Harvard, she rarely talked about her marital status with others.
So Dylan didn't know who her ex-husband was.
Initially, Dylan was very curious about what kind of man could abandon a woman like Amelia and her unborn child. But after a few attempts to ask, Amelia remained tight-lipped.
Eventually, Dylan lost interest and stopped asking.
Dylan hadn't heard Anna's voice in a long time and wanted to chat with her, so Amelia handed Anna the phone.
"It's your godfather," Amelia said.
Anna happily took the phone, put it to her ear, and spoke cheerfully.
"Daddy."
Her voice was very sweet.
"Hey."
Hearing her voice, Dylan's tone softened.
Anna was very good at chatting and talking with Dylan for a long time.
Meanwhile, Amelia quietly ate her pasta, smiling as she watched Anna.
Eventually, they scheduled the meeting with Dylan's family for Saturday.
On Saturday morning, Dylan arrived early at the Davis Manor to pick up Amelia and brought Anna her favorite toys.
While Amelia was upstairs changing, he played with Anna in the living room for a while.
Amelia came downstairs after getting ready and saw Anna and Dylan getting along well. A helpless smile flashed in her eyes.
Anna seemed to get along well with everyone.
Today, Amelia was wearing a very appropriate dress, simple in style and pure white.
Her hair was tied up at the back, looking dignified, the type that elders would like at first sight.
Dylan looked at her, very satisfied.
With Amelia's help, his parents probably wouldn't rush him into dating for a while.
