Chapter 290 DNA Test

Selah was fuming inside, but she kept a smile plastered on her face as she greeted Frederick like she’d just noticed him.

"Are you Frederick?"

Frederick gave her a cold look.

Even without a response, Selah kept smiling.

She sighed, "It really is you. Last time we saw you, you were still in school. Now, you're leading Kasfee's economic boom. Impressive."

Vincent nodded, agreeing with Selah. "Frederick is indeed exceptional."

Selah quickly added, "Vincent, it's all thanks to you. When the Hastings family was in trouble, you stepped in. Without you, Frederick wouldn't be where he is today."

With that, she dismissed all of Frederick's achievements, giving all the credit to the Davis family.

Vincent's face changed, and he quickly denied it. "No, Frederick's talents speak for themselves."

Frederick's status had changed dramatically. A guy with his ambition and drive probably didn't like being reminded of Hastings Manor's past troubles. Selah bringing it up was clearly meant to make him uncomfortable.

Amelia glanced at Frederick, her eyes showing a hint of complexity. She had expected him to look annoyed, but to her surprise, he kept his cool.

Frederick responded sincerely, "Mrs. Vanderbilt is right. When Hastings family was on the brink of bankruptcy, it was Mr. Davis who helped. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here today. Mr. Davis, rest assured, from now on, Ameliaand I will take good care of you."

Vincent smiled, satisfied with Frederick's words. "As long as you feel that way, I'm already very pleased."

The favor the Davis family had done for the Hastings family was repaid when the they were in trouble. If it weren't for Frederick, Rachel wouldn't have transitioned so smoothly. So, over the years, Amelia stopped mentioning the Davis family's favor to the Hastings family, and Vincent even less so.

Seeing Frederick handle himself so well in front of Vincent, Selah's smile faltered. She had intended to make things difficult for Frederick, but ended up making herself uncomfortable.

In any case, she believed, in front of Amelia, the Vanderbilts' status was always better than Frederick's. Amelia had never truly forgiven Frederick in her heart, or her kid wouldn't have called him uncle now.

Thinking this, Selah sighed inwardly, took Amelia's hand, and had her sit beside her, changing the topic.

While Frederick was talking to Vincent, he forgot about the injury on his right hand and reached out to pick up a glass.

As he was about to grab it, Amelia noticed and reminded him. "Your hand."

Frederick paused, then realized.

Caught off guard, Frederick paused mid-motion, registering the oversight. Meeting Amelia's gaze, a mix of reproach and care, he felt a wave of tension release, softening his expression. With a slight grin, he acknowledged, "Old habits die hard, huh?"

Amelia reminded him again, "Be careful."

The flesh on the palm was tender, and even a slight touch could cause sharp pain.

The anesthetic had completely worn off by now.

Amelia could imagine Frederick's palm had been hurting the whole time. He must have been enduring it.

She glanced at the time and softly said to Selah, "Mrs. Vanderbilt, I'll take Anna upstairs for a bath. I have to go out later, and I might not have time if I come back late. Please excuse me."

"No problem. I'll be here for about half a month. We can catch up another day," Selah nodded and handed Anna to Amelia.

Taking Anna, Amelia said to Frederick, "Wait for me a bit."

Frederick nodded, "Okay."

Amelia carried Anna upstairs. Anna waved goodbye to everyone.

Once they were upstairs, Selah pulled an invitation from her bag and handed it to Vincent.

"I plan to hold a housewarming party," she smiled.

Vincent took it with a smile, "A housewarming party sounds great. It'll be lively."

Selah nodded, "Our family might be moving back here for good."

Vincent placed the invitation aside, "Actually, the country is quite nice. Our time in Fondaniss was a bit uncomfortable. Now that we're back, I often have coffee, chat, and fish with old friends. Life is quite pleasant."

Selah smiled, "Isn't it?"

She then looked at Frederick with an apologetic expression. "Frederick, I didn't know you were here, so I didn't prepare anything. But consider this a verbal invitation. You must come, and don't hold it against me."

Frederick's expression remained calm. "Alright, if I'm free that day, I'll come with Amelia."

Selah's smile became a bit strained. After a brief chat with Vincent, she got up to leave.

Vincent escorted them to the Davis Manor entrance.

As they got into the car, Selah kept her smile, but as soon as they left Davis Manor, it vanished.

She glanced coldly at Daniel, clearly displeased.

"I told you not to come back! You insisted, and now you've made me unhappy, too. If Amelia had feelings for you, she wouldn't have married Frederick in the first place!"

Amelia had mentioned more than once to Selah that she had no romantic feelings for Daniel, only the bond of growing up together.

Selah knew Amelia's character well.

When Amelia said she didn't like someone, she meant it.

Otherwise, during those three years in Fondaniss, Amelia wouldn't have been so supportive of Selah finding a match for Daniel and even trying to set him up with Lucy.

Earlier, while talking to Selah, Amelia's mind was always on Frederick. She had even immediately noticed when Frederick tried to use his injured hand to pick up the glass.

Amelia had never paid such close attention to Daniel. Any concern she showed was just friendly, indicating that Daniel's place in Amelia's heart couldn't compare to Frederick's.

Daniel had completely lost to Frederick in every aspect.

Selah took a deep breath, rubbed her temples, and said in a low voice, "Tomorrow, I'll take Ruth to the hospital where Amelia works for a check-up and ask Amelia to help with a DNA test."
