Chapter 86 Not Over Yet
Frederick didn't respond to Rachel's words and walked away.
Amber's expression changed from confusion to bewilderment.
'Frederick is pursuing Amelia? But isn't Frederick Rachel's husband?' she thought. 'Even if they are divorced, Frederick is still Rachel's ex-husband. The Davis family, such a noble family, should not allow such a situation to exist.'
Amber panicked, her expression filled with unease.
She noticed Frederick leaving the meeting room and immediately followed.
"Frederick," she hurriedly called out, but Frederick didn't pause his steps and continued walking toward where Amelia was.
Watching him single-mindedly heading towards Amelia, Amber felt flustered and accidentally tripped on the red carpet, colliding with a waiter carrying a tray of juice.
Chaos ensued.
Amelia also heard the commotion and turned her head to look in Amber's direction. She saw Frederick standing not far away, watching Amber. From her angle, she couldn't see Frederick's expression.
Amber was wearing a white shirt today, which was now stained with alcohol and a bit transparent.
There were still some Ascending Company staff and hotel staff remaining at the scene, mostly men.
Amber's current appearance seemed a bit improper.
Amelia glanced at Frederick and noticed that he had his suit jacket hanging off his arm.
"Mr. Hastings, aren't you going to help her?" she asked.
Upon hearing Amelia's words, Frederick furrowed his brow and glanced at Scott, who was standing with Sebastian.
Scott caught Frederick's gaze and immediately understood. He tightly held onto his own jacket and said, " I just bought this jacket today."
Surrounding them were several employees from Ascending Company, but none of them took the initiative to help Amber when they saw her in such a miserable state.
Amber's identity as Frederick's ex-girlfriend was already known among their colleagues.
Since Frederick didn't step forward to help, they dared not approach either.
After all, Rachel was not someone to mess with.
Amber stood frozen in place, her face pale.
Rachel walked out of the meeting room and found a piece of cloth from somewhere, throwing it onto Amber.
Amber tightly grasped at it before noticing that it had a strange smell. She glanced down and saw that Rachel had torn a piece of tablecloth from somewhere and thrown it to her.
She gritted her teeth, feeling a surge of humiliation. Unfortunately, apart from Rachel, no one else helped her. She took a deep breath and whispered her thanks, "Thank you, Ms. Rachel."
Rachel stood in front of her, looking down at her and smiling, "It's no problem. You seem to have issues with handling difficulties. This is just the beginning, so you should learn to cope better," she said.
Amber listened to Rachel's words and suddenly felt a sense of unknown fear.
Rachel no longer looked at her and quietly said to Tina beside her, "The rest is up to you."
Tina nodded and said, "Of course, Ms. Rachel."
Rachel walked past Amber with confident steps.
Amber took a deep breath, her expression changing slightly as she immediately stared at Frederick.
However, Frederick was no longer looking at her. Instead, he walked towards Amelia.
The Davis family's car arrived, and as Amelia was about to bend down to get in, Frederick pulled her back.
"Get in my car, I have something to say to you," he said.
Amelia removed Frederick's hand from her, glanced at him with dissatisfaction, and said, "Sorry, I have nothing to say to you."
Everyone at the banquet was especially curious to hear the conversation between Amelia and Frederick. After all, the exposed video content was quite scandalous and they had never seen that side of Frederick before. Their curiosity reached its peak.
Amelia didn't want to entangle with Frederick, so she bent down and got into the car, slamming the door shut.
"Drive," she ordered Carl, feeling a bit unhappy.
Carl hesitated. After all, Frederick was someone from the Davis family and couldn't be offended.
He cautiously glanced at Frederick outside the car and saw that his expression remained unchanged. He didn't seem displeased at all because Amelia had publicly rejected him. In fact, there seemed to be a hint of indulgence in his deep blue eyes. This surprised Carl.
"Drive," Amelia said again, and Carl quickly started the car and left.
Rachel came out, and Sebastian immediately stuck to her, leaving together.
Frederick also got into the Hastings family's car.
Scott stayed behind and leisurely walked outside.
"Scott," Amber called out to him.
Scott stopped in his tracks and turned to ask, "Do you need something?"
Amber looked up at Scott, her hair soaked in red wine, looking disheveled.
"Can you..." she began.
Before she could finish her sentence, Scott outright refused, "No."
Amber paused.
She couldn't understand why Scott had changed towards her so quickly. He used to be so gentle and kind to her before.
Even when she went abroad, Scott went all the way to Fondaniss to persuade her to come back. They had maintained contact over the years, hoping she would return home as soon as possible.
She could accept breaking up with Frederick three years ago when Frederick no longer loved her, but she couldn't accept Scott suddenly not liking her anymore.
She bit her lip gently and spoke with some difficulty. "Why did you become like this?"
Upon hearing her words, Scott calmly looked at her, with a hint of disappointment and disdain in his eyes.
"Because I don't like fools," he said.
Amber's face turned pale, and she stood still, stiff in her place.
After Frederick and Rachel left, the staff on site relaxed.
"Have you seen the announcement from the Hastings Group?" one employee said.
Another employee replied, "Yes, I have. I didn't expect the person who married Mr. Hastings to be Ms. Amelia from the Davis family."
"Ms. Davis is gentle and elegant, and her profession is highly respected. She's definitely the type that many wealthy people and noble families would like," one employee said.
"If Ms. Rachel marries Mr. Hastings, they will be competing in the business world every day."
People passed by Amber, chatting and laughing, paying no attention to her.
Amber's expression changed, and she grabbed one of the passing staff members, saying, "What did you say?"
'Frederick's wife is Amelia? Not Rachel?' she thought.
Amber still had wine stains on her hands, and the staff member was startled, immediately shaking off Amber's hand.
"What are you doing?" the staff member said.
Amber looked disheveled at this point, biting her lip and lowering her voice. "I'm sorry."
The other person quickly pulled out a tissue and wiped the arm that Amber had touched, with a disgusted expression.
The staff member said, "Amber, as Mr. Hastings' ex-girlfriend, you should keep a low profile. Do you really think you have a chance to compete with Ms. Davis?" Amber said, "The announcement released by the Davis Group said that Ms. Davis and Mr. Hastings have already divorced."
"Look at Mr. Hastings' attitude now, it's obvious that he regrets it. You joined the Davis Group, scheming and using tricks, but ended up a joke. It's really embarrassing," the staff member said.
Only the staff members in the president's office of the Davis Group knew about Sebastian and Rachel's situation. Over the years, the president's office had only hired one new person, Amber. The other employees were all long-time followers of Rachel.
It was child's play for them to realize that the online rumors about Sebastian going to Rachel's office and staying there for an hour were spread by Amber.
Amber recalled Rachel's smiling face and Amelia's indifferent and contemptuous attitude towards her. She felt very scared and cold all over.
Tina walked past her and handed her a dismissal notice. Amber looked at the notice, her expression frozen.
"Did Ms. Rachel know my purpose for joining the Davis Group from the beginning?" she asked.
Tina said coldly, "Ms. Rachel said that her life was boring and needed some fun. She is very satisfied with your performance."
But the show wasn't over.
