Chapter 425 How Could She Not Hate Him

Madison had a grin plastered on her face, but it was all for show. She never really liked Amelia, but she needed her help now. "I wanna chat about Dylan," she said, trying to sound sweet.

Amelia strolled over to her office door and swung it open, cool as a cucumber. "Let's talk inside," she said. She already had a hunch Madison was here about Dylan. After all, Dylan was still her grandson.

Madison trailed behind Amelia and plopped down in the chair across from her desk, getting straight to the point. "Ms. Davis, you and Dylan are tight, and Cynthia trusts you. She's in the middle of a messy divorce with my son and has a lawyer digging into our finances. You know anything about this?"

Amelia kept her cool, shaking her head slightly. "That's your family matters, and I'm out of the loop. You didn't come to check on Dylan's situation?"

Madison's face twisted a bit. Seeing Amelia so chill, she figured Amelia knew more than she was letting on. She frowned and locked eyes with her. "I need your help. You and Dylan are close, and Cynthia would definitely listen to you."

Amelia shot her down right away. "Mrs. Madison Kingsley, you're giving me too much credit. I can't even get through to Dylan, let alone Cynthia."

Madison's face darkened. She muttered, "So, you're saying you won't help?"

Amelia stayed calm. "This is your family issue. Asking an outsider like me to step in doesn't seem right, and I have no place in this."

Madison's face showed a flicker of annoyance. She pressed on, "It's no big deal. Just get Cynthia to sign the divorce papers already. She's been living off the Kingsley family for over thirty years. My son built up the family's wealth. She’s never worked and has had it good for so long; she shouldn't expect more."

Amelia frowned a bit, not agreeing with Madison but not arguing either. She said flatly, "Mrs. Madison Kingsley, if you're not here about Dylan, then I can't help you with anything else."

Madison's eyes burned with frustration at Amelia's firm stance. She shot Amelia a displeased look and stood up. "Okay, fine, but if you're willing to help, please tell Cynthia that if she agrees to the divorce, I'll give her some money on the side to make sure she's comfortable. But if she wants more, she's dreaming," she said coldly.

With that, Madison stormed out of Amelia's office. Catherine, who was with Madison, gave Amelia a forced smile as they left.

"If you're pregnant, maybe ditch the high heels," Amelia said casually, then looked away.

Catherine and Madison's faces stiffened at Amelia's comment, but they kept their cool and quickly left the office.

Madison glanced at Catherine's shoes, frowned, and muttered, "Don't wear it next time."

Catherine nodded respectfully. "Yes, Mrs. Kingsley."

Madison took a deep breath and hopped into the elevator with Catherine.

Cynthia stepped out of Dylan's hospital room just in time to see Madison and Catherine leaving Amelia's office.

With a nurse in Dylan's room, Cynthia hesitated for a sec before heading to Amelia's office.

Amelia was deep into Maria's medical report when she noticed someone walk in. She looked up and saw Cynthia. Putting her work aside, she asked, "What's up, Mrs. Kingsley?"

Cynthia noticed Amelia's calm vibe and frowned a bit before speaking. "I just saw Dylan's grandma leaving your office. What did she want?"

Amelia paused for a few seconds before answering, "She wanted me to persuade you of that thing."

Cynthia's face darkened at Amelia's words. She spat out, "Shameless! Both of them are shameless!"

Madison actually wanted Amelia to convince her to get a divorce.

Seeing Cynthia all riled up, Amelia gently tried to calm her down. "Mrs. Kingsley, take it easy."

Cynthia took a deep breath, her frown deepening, and said in a low voice, "Harold's probably been scheming this divorce for a while. I had a lawyer check the assets, and it turns out he doesn't have much in his name. The Kingsley Group had some financial hiccups recently, but nothing major. I bet he's already moved the assets."

Cynthia rubbed her temples and continued, "Now, in the divorce, he's only offering me a slice of the assets I hold and nothing more. Even if I sell these assets, Dylan and I can only afford a house abroad, and our lifestyle will take a nosedive. Harold plans to leave everything to his illegitimate kid, completely ignoring Dylan. Since he's so heartless, I won't go easy on him either."

Cynthia's eyes were burning with hatred. Madison had been a thorn in her side for years in the Kingsley family. She was initially drawn to Harold's kindness.

But she never expected Harold to have a kid on the side, and the kid was already over ten years old!

Cynthia had been trying to track down Harold's illegitimate child, but Harold was clearly covering his tracks. She still hadn't found out the kid's name or where they lived.

Amelia listened to Cynthia, her brows knitting together.

Cynthia had been taking care of Dylan and couldn't show any signs of distress in front of him. But she was clearly more worn out than before.

Amelia tried to soothe Cynthia, "Mrs. Kingsley, don't stress too much. There's no hurdle you can't get over."

Cynthia nodded at Amelia's words, "As long as Dylan's okay, I can handle anything. I only asked for six million dollars. For him, that's chump change. The Kingsley family has so many assets, and I'm asking for less than a tenth. If he gives it to me, I'll sign the divorce papers and leave Kasfee with Dylan, no strings attached."

But Harold wasn't even willing to give her six million dollars and just offered her a few worthless old houses instead. How could Cynthia not hate him?
