Chapter 428 An Overwhelming Bitterness Spread Within Him

When Sebastian spoke, his voice was dripping with jealousy.

Rachel just gave him a calm glance, acting like she didn't even hear him. She turned and went back into the private room. As soon as she let go, the door slammed shut from the inside.

Sebastian stared at the closed door, his face turning red with anger. He took a deep breath, his hands clenching at his sides.

The waiter at the door, seeing Sebastian's reaction, quickly lowered her head and opened the door to the private room for him.

Sebastian took another deep breath, calmed himself down, and stepped into the private room.

Rachel was already sitting next to Charles.

After Rachel sat down, Charles put his hand on the back of her chair, leaning in close. They seemed to be chatting about something, with Rachel nodding along.

Sebastian sat back in his seat. From his angle, it looked like Rachel was all cozy in Charles's arms.

The vibe between them was super obvious.

Sebastian couldn't help but tug at his tie. No matter how much he was fuming inside, he had to keep it together.

Frederick had warned him on the way here that if he kept losing his cool like he did at the exchange meeting, his status in the Kingsley family would keep dropping.

Sebastian had a ton of enemies around him. The Kingsley family were gunning for his spot, and his dad's first wife had suddenly come back with a kid, making things even messier.

There were also a lot of issues within the Kingsley Group.

Sebastian knew he couldn't keep wasting time on Rachel. He gritted his teeth, sat down, and grabbed the wine glass in front of him, looking at Charles to interrupt his chat with Rachel. "Mr. Wright, let's have a toast."

Hearing Sebastian, Charles pulled back his hand, stood up, and picked up his wine glass to clink with Sebastian's.

As they exchanged pleasantries, you could see the intense hostility in their eyes.

Everyone turned their curious gazes to Rachel, but she stayed cool. After finishing her chat with Charles, she turned to talk to Amelia, who was sitting next to her.

Seeing the main players so calm, the others lost interest in watching.

Sebastian hadn't drunk much earlier, so he was still pretty sober.

Charles, on the other hand, had been toasted a bunch and was starting to show signs of being tipsy.

Whether on purpose or not, Sebastian even switched seats with someone next to Charles, showing he wasn't leaving until both he and Charles were drunk.

Even though Charles was clearly getting tipsy, he still didn't back down in front of Sebastian.

While talking to Charles, Sebastian occasionally glanced at Rachel. But Rachel never looked his way, like Charles getting drunk had nothing to do with her.

Sebastian had hoped to provoke Rachel and get her attention, whether it was anger or something else, but Rachel didn't care at all.

A huge sense of frustration built up inside him. He called out to Rachel and suggested, "Ms. Rachel Davis, Mr. Wright seems to have reached his limit. He drank a lot for you earlier. Why don't you drink for him?"

As soon as Sebastian dropped Rachel's name, everyone turned to see how she'd react.

Rachel just turned her head slightly, gave Sebastian a distant, indifferent smile, and reached for her glass. But before she could take a sip, Charles, sitting next to her, covered her hand and the glass with his palm.

Charles said coolly, "Mr. Kingsley, your beef is with me. Leave Ms. Rachel Davis out of it. She's not feeling great and should take it easy on the drinks. I can handle it."

He gently moved Rachel's hand away, picked up the glass, and downed it in one go.

Rachel pulled her hand back.

Charles's hand was warm, and the spot he touched seemed to hold onto that warmth for a while.

She glanced at the back of her hand, her heart racing, but she quickly got her emotions in check and sat calmly.

Seeing Rachel's thoughtful look, Sebastian frowned deeply, feeling all sorts of messed up inside.

After a bit, Frederick stood up and said, "Mr. Wright, you’ve got a flight tomorrow. Drinking too much might mess you up. Let's call it a night and catch up another time."

Charles had definitely had enough. Sebastian, on the other hand, was still pretty sober.

With Frederick's suggestion, everyone nodded and, after some polite exchanges, started to leave.

Charles stayed in his seat, smiling and saying goodbye to everyone.

Amelia followed Frederick to see the guests off.

After most people had left, it was just Rachel, Charles, Sebastian, Amelia, and Frederick in the private room.

Frederick, who hadn't drunk much, was sober and calm. He walked over to Charles and patted his shoulder. "Mr. Wright, you good?"

Charles looked up at Frederick and smiled, "Mr. Hastings, I couldn't be better."

Frederick raised an eyebrow and then looked at Sebastian. "Sebastian, how about you?"

Sebastian shook his head, indicating he was fine, but his eyes were glued to Rachel.

Rachel picked up her handbag and stood up, and Sebastian followed suit.

Charles, still seated, grabbed Rachel's wrist and smiled, "Ms. Rachel Davis, I can't stand up. Could you help me?"

Rachel was about to reach out when Sebastian stepped in, helping Charles up with a slightly mocking expression. "Mr. Wright, looks like you aren't okay after all."

Charles raised an eyebrow and looked at Rachel, "Ms. Rachel Davis, am I okay?"

A subtle emotion flashed in Rachel's eyes, and she gave him a slightly reproachful look.

Charles chuckled.

Sebastian had meant to mock Charles but ended up feeling awkward himself. His expression turned a bit complicated as he coldly helped Charles out of the private room.

Charles didn't push him away, just let him help with a smile on his face.

Sebastian helped Charles into the car. Seeing Charles so drunk, Ian quickly stepped up to assist.

When Rachel came out, she glanced in Charles's direction, saw the car door close, and then got into her own car.

Tina closed the car door and drove away from the restaurant.

Even though Sebastian seemed to be helping Charles, his attention was always on Rachel. Seeing Rachel's car leave the restaurant, he let out a heavy sigh of relief.

He stood there, watching Rachel's car disappear, feeling a deep sense of bitterness spreading inside him.
