Chapter 83 Already Divorced
Amber was standing not far away.
She thought that after coming to Ascending Company, she would have more chances to see Frederick, but Frederick only come to Ascending Company very infrequently, leaving everything to Felix.
Today was Ascending Company's anniversary celebration, and many media outlets received invitations. Her friends were also among those invited.
When Amber saw her friend approaching, there was a hint of surprise and fear in her eyes.
"Why did you come?" she asked.
Jimmy noticed Amber's nervousness and chuckled softly. "Our editor-in-chief received an invitation from Ascending Company, but she couldn't make it today, so she sent me instead."
Amber expressed her gratitude, saying, "If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have had the chance to attend such an anniversary celebration."
Today, many well-known families were in attendance, and it was Jimmy's first time seeing so many famous people gathered together.
If she was lucky enough to be favored by a well-known figure, Amber would become more than just a small entertainment journalist at Kasfee.
Amber's expression changed slightly, and she lowered her voice as she said, "I only talked to you for a while. It was your own perceptiveness that led you to this news. Your success was inevitable, and it has nothing to do with me."
Jimmy knew that Amber worked at Ascending Company, considering Frederick and Rachel were her bosses. If they found out about her involvement in this matter, she might lose her job, and Rachel wouldn't let her off easily.
"Don't worry, if any problems arise in the future, I won't involve you," Jimmy said.
After hearing Jimmy's response, Amber let out a sigh of relief.
She looked toward Frederick and Rachel. Frederick's face was fierce, and he appeared indifferent. Standing beside Rachel was Sebastian, who also seemed unhappy.
Amber couldn't quite understand the complicated relationship between them.
Sebastian and Frederick had been good friends for many years, and Rachel was Frederick's supposed wife.
Even if he didn't love Rachel, given Frederick's personality, he would never let her openly announce her relationship with Sebastian.
Seeing Amber's gaze locked onto Frederick, Jimmy was also confused as to how Frederick, Sebastian, and Rachel could stand together so harmoniously.
"Amber, don't overthink it. No man would allow his wife to be with someone else unless he truly didn't love her," Jimmy said.
"After all, you were Mr. Hastings' first girlfriend. Your position in his heart is naturally different from Rachel's."
Amber wasn't comforted by Jimmy's words.
She had no idea what her position was in Frederick's heart.
When she first returned to the country, she could confidently believe that Frederick loved her. But after experiencing what she had over a month's time, that confidence had long disappeared.
Amber felt anxious in her heart.
She suppressed her inner unease and softly said, "Maybe."
Rachel noticed that Sebastian was sticking closely to her, unwilling to be apart even for a moment. She raised an eyebrow and asked, "I saw that Noah and Yves were here. Aren't you going to go find them?"
"I'm not going," Sebastian bluntly refused.
Rachel quietly glanced at him but didn't say much. She just let him be.
The internet was buzzing with news of Sebastian, the man who had intervened in the marriage of Rachel and Frederick. He was seen closely following Rachel, which inevitably led to speculation among the public. Some people had already gathered, quietly discussing the situation.
"Sebastian sure has some nerve. Mr. Hastings is right here, and yet he dares to stick to Ms. Rachel so closely."
"Sebastian is actually an illegitimate child. If it weren't for the original heir of the Kingsley family dying in a car accident, he would never have been considered an heir."
"But I heard that he and Mr. Hastings were good friends. Perhaps Mr. Hastings doesn't care about Rachel being with Sebastian because he never liked her to begin with. After all, both sides of these high society marriages usually have their own secret lovers."
The speaker looked at Rachel with disdain and jealousy.
"However, I saw the announcement released by the Davis family, stating that Rachel is now single. I'm afraid Mr. Hastings will quickly divorce her after this scandal is exposed."
As she spoke, Rachel slowly approached their direction. The person next to her immediately nudged her with an elbow.
They were startled when they saw Rachel walking past with Sebastian.
Luckily, Rachel didn't pay any attention to them and went straight toward Vincent.
Upon seeing Rachel approaching, Amelia found a moment to excuse herself and went to the restroom.
The restroom for the banquet was in the backyard.
Amelia crossed a hallway with a few people and entered the restroom.
When she came out, she saw Frederick standing outside the restroom corridor, smoking.
He seemed to be deliberately waiting for her. Seeing her come out, he took the cigarette from his mouth, looked at her unhappily, and said, "It hasn't even been half a month since our divorce, and you're already so eager to find a new boyfriend?"
He wasn't pleased after seeing Amelia having such a joyful conversation with Quentin earlier.
Amelia furrowed her brows and said, "Just like you said, we're divorced. Whether or not I find a new boyfriend has nothing to do with you."
The air suddenly became dead silent.
Frederick remained silent for a few seconds, flicking the cigarette ash off his fingertips.
"The Adams family is no match for the Vanderbilt family. Your choices are getting worse," he said.
The smell of smoke lingered in the air as Amelia frowned, wanting to distance herself.
"Thank you for your reminder, I will seriously consider whether or not to choose the Vanderbilt family," she said, walking past Frederick, wanting to leave.
Frederick instantly looked very unhappy, grabbing Amelia's arm and pushing her against the wall. He glared at her, feeling somewhat sorry inside.
He gritted his teeth and said in a low voice, "Daniel already has a fiancée in Fondaniss."
As he spoke, his warm breath hit Amelia's face, causing her to have a momentary daze.
Frederick looked at her in a daze for another man, feeling turmoil inside.
She was wearing a short burgundy cocktail dress today. Her fair and straight legs were attracting attention from others.
Earlier at the banquet, many men's eyes were focused on her, their curious and probing gaze making Frederick wish he could gouge out their eyes.
He reached out and squeezed her waist, leaning down with his nose touching hers, and asked in a low, hoarse voice, "Does your foot still hurt?"
He looked at Amelia's rosy lips, gulping at the sight.
He suddenly leaned in closer, shifting the topic with that low and gentle tone, causing Amelia's mind to go blank for a moment.
Soon, she calmed down and placed her hand on the man's chest.
"Frederick, let go of me! We are divorced," she said.
