Chapter 427 Are You Already Starting to Feel Sorry for Mr. Wright?

Charles and Rachel were the first to roll into the private room.

Charles, being all gentlemanly, pulled out a chair for Rachel and gave her a nod to sit.

Rachel flashed a small smile, whispered a thanks, and plopped down.

Sebastian strolled in next, with Amelia and Frederick trailing behind. This time, he decided to sit far from Rachel, ditching his phone once he settled in.

There were a few other finance folks there too, people Amelia had seen around but didn't really know.

Amelia snagged a seat between Rachel and Frederick.

Once everyone was in place, the waiter started bringing out the grub.

Most of the chatter was about business deals and future plans.

Amelia was lost and honestly, couldn't care less.

Frederick, noticing her zoning out, grabbed her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.

Rachel caught a glimpse of them and then looked away.

As expected, Frederick's fake drunk act kicked in. Lately, he'd been pretending to be tipsy to dodge drinks, blaming it on his past health issues. Most people bought it, but Rachel knew better.

Charles, on the other hand, was downing drinks left and right, probably because he was heading back to Fondaniss soon. He was getting pretty buzzed.

This place was a hotspot for the rich and famous, so word got out fast that Charles was there. Soon, folks from other rooms started popping in, eager to toast him and leave a mark.

One of the guys who showed up was a businessman who had worked with the Davis Group before.

After toasting Charles, he spotted Rachel and had someone pour her a drink too.

"Ms. Rachel Davis, long time no see. Cheers to you," he said with a big grin.

Rachel stood up, ready to accept the drink, but Charles swooped in and took it. "She had a cold recently and isn't fully recovered, so I'll drink this for her," he said, downing it in one go.

The businessman, catching the drift, nodded quickly. "Mr. Wright, you're such a gentleman," he said, eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief as he glanced between Charles and Rachel.

Charles gave a faint smile, looked at Rachel, and said softly, "You can use water instead."

Seeing that Charles had already had quite a bit, Rachel was about to refuse, but Charles had already handed her a glass of water.

After giving her the glass, he clinked glasses with the guy and downed another drink.

The guy, holding his glass, watched Charles drink and praised him. "Mr. Wright, you've got some serious alcohol tolerance."

He then clinked glasses with Rachel again and said, "Ms. Davis, cheers to you."

Rachel nodded slightly, took a sip of water, and glanced at Charles.

Charles had definitely had a lot to drink tonight. After downing another glass, he loosened his tie, probably feeling the heat from all the booze.

"Mr. Wright, Ms. Rachel Davis, Mr. Hastings, I won't keep you any longer. Enjoy your meal," the guy said, all polite-like, before slipping out and closing the door behind him.

Rachel watched him go, then noticed Charles's tie was all crooked. Without thinking, she reached out to fix it but stopped, realizing how natural it felt.

Charles's eyes twinkled as he looked down at her. "Thanks, Ms. Rachel Davis."

Rachel was about to pull her hand back, but since Charles had already thanked her, she went ahead and took off his tie. "This should be more comfortable," she said, trying to sound casual, then looked away.

Charles smiled, looking at the tie in his hand. After a moment, he said softly, "Could you stash this in your bag for me, Ms. Rachel Davis? Give it back to me after dinner."

Rachel had a bag with her, so his request wasn't a big deal.

She nodded, took the tie, and slipped it into her bag.

Just then, a glass hit the floor with a crash.

Everyone turned to see what happened.

Sebastian, seeing all eyes on him, gave an apologetic smile, though it looked a bit forced. "Sorry, my hand slipped."

Everyone shrugged it off, saying it was no big deal.

A waiter came in to clean up the mess.

Sebastian glanced at Rachel and saw she had already put Charles's tie in her bag.

A wave of anger hit him, and the people around him noticed.

Sebastian had lost his cool in front of Rachel too many times, but he decided to keep it together this time. He stood up and said calmly, "Carry on, I'll handle this." He brushed off the water that had splashed on him.

Everyone gave polite smiles as they watched Sebastian leave the room.

Rachel stayed indifferent, barely reacting.

Charles, too, acted like nothing happened and picked up the conversation where it left off.

People from other rooms kept coming in to toast.

To stop the interruptions, Rachel got up and walked to the door, quietly telling the waiter, "If anyone else tries to come in, please stop them."

The waiter nodded quickly. "Yes, Ms. Davis. Since you didn't say anything earlier, I thought it was okay."

The guests in the room hadn't reacted before, and the people coming to toast were all wealthy, so the waiter hadn't stopped them. Now, with Rachel's instructions, she wouldn't let anyone else in.

Rachel said calmly, "But it's too many. They're getting us all drunk."

The waiter quickly apologized, "My bad."

After giving her instructions, Rachel saw that Sebastian had calmed down and returned.

He overheard Rachel's conversation with the waiter at the door, his eyes showing a hint of pain.

Unable to hold back his resentment, he sneered, "Ms. Davis, are you already starting to feel distressed for Mr. Wright?"
